Perfect vacation house on Cayuga Lake
This was our 4th summer staying at this lake house. The owners, Judy and Mike, do a really nice job of maintaining the house and property. The house is very simple and clean, perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle of life. We also really enjoy using the kayaks and dock for fishing. The house is in a great location, after 4 summers, we're still finding new trails to explore around the area as it's only an hour to Ithaca.
The home worked out perfectly for a family get together!
Loved the fenced in yard for the little ones! The screened in porch was a great space! Lots of storage space in the kitchen for all our stuff!!! The owners were right next door. They were available if we needed anything. Would rent the home again!
Why go anywhere else?
Stayed here for a week in July. This was our 3rd or 4th stay at Porch Place. I can't really see why I would bother to go anywhere else! It has everything you could possibly want, it's always super clean, has plenty of water toys, Wi-Fi, cable, boat for fishing, and the owners are AWESOME! The yard is fenced in for the dogs (which is a big plus) Already looking forward to next year.
Perfect for our week on Lake Cayuga
Great house right on the water. Mike the owner who lives next door is super helpful.
Lots of areas to enjoy the views and dine outside, as well as a great screened porch to hang out and dine without bugs. We had a great time kayaking, swimming, wine, and cheese tasting in the area. Perfect house for families with kids that can swim.
House is a quick and easy drive down to a Watkins Glen and Ithaca to a few beautiful state parks to hike rough the gorges, which was absolutely amazing! Watkins Glen State Park is not to be missed! We also went swimming and hiking at Robert Truman State Park.
Great stay as always!
This was the 4th time we have rented this cottage. It is never disappointing. Beautiful views and the hoist is a big plus! It is exactly what we like for a lake property. We would recommend this for a great vacation experience!

Our stay Aug. 2016
This is a two sided opinion. First the bad: The cable went out about every 1/2 hr. and didn't come back for about 15 minutes, each night. The A/C is woefully inadequate--in the downstairs bedroom there's a teeny weeny a/c, and the same in one of the bedrooms upstairs. Even cranked up they leave the house sticky and hot. We found if we turned the oven on (our daughter made cookies) to 350 for 1/2 hr. and the a/c in the downstairs bedroom, we could get the downstairs to feel a little dryer. The stair case between floors has no backing. Meaning you can see through the stairs. Our 10 lb. dog was terrified of that and we had to pick him up to take him up or down. The spindles are over 12" apart. These are not good steps for toddlers and little ones. The light switches are in precarious places. We were there a week and by the 4th night we were in agony because the beds were so uncomfortable. We didn't sleep well so we napped alot. THe linens provided smelled like cigarettes. Cigarette smoke wafted over from owner's home to us. The good: fabulous view of the lake! Lots of room to spread out. Quiet. Nice long dock. Can sleep 9 or more if you have sleeping bags. Clean. Modern. Newly painted. Nice.
I am sorry that this family did not have a pleasant experience at our cottage. To address their issues:
1. The cable TV has been fixed. I did not know they were having trouble; I would have fixed it for them had I known.
2. Yes, the AC's are small units; they are the biggest units we can fit into the narrow windows. Will look at floor AC's for next summer.
3. The open staircase is just what it is - an open staircase. Cannot rebuild. I will mention this in cottage description so parents of toddlers are aware of it.
4. Not sure what guest means by "light switches in precarious positions". Light switches are on the wall in the room where the lights are.
5. Was not aware that beds were uncomfortable as I have not had that complaint before. Will test sleep on them this fall and replace any that are super soft or super hard, as I assume that is what makes a bed uncomfortable.
6. I am sorry about the cigarette smell on sheets - have no explanation other that the smoker in our house did the laundry that week. Yes, our smoker smoked in the back yard and I am sorry that her fumes wafted over. Had I known, would have asked her to smoke in her car. Unlikely that smoker will be here next summer.
I hope this adequately addresses the issues in this review. If any future renters have any concerns regarding the above, please call me to discuss.
The cottage is located 10 miles south of Seneca Falls on a quiet off-road. Ithaca, a funky town that features many artisans, natural eateries, and two colleges (Ithaca and Cornell) is at the bottom of the lake about 45 minutes away. It is at the top of the Cayuga Lake wine and cheese trail. All conveniences are no more than 10 minutes away. Cayuga Lake is very big with minimal boat traffic. The cottage is at road level and the beach and dock are 12 steps down. You can swim on the property (no drop offs) and there are two sand bar beaches within a 10 minute boat ride. Fishing off property dock is good or elsewhere in the lake. There are many Amish and Mennonite shops in the area. Seneca Falls is the home of the Women's Rights Movement and has many museums and attractions. There are all kinds of restaurants from a wonderful 50s diner up to fine dining in the Hotel Clarence. The countryside is rural with sweeping vistas and all the lake views are gorgeous. It is really lovely here. We call it paradise.
