About Dia Michels

I moved to Washington DC in 1980 to save the world. Unfortunately, the world could still use quite a bit of help! I, however, fell in love with DC and never left. I met my husband in 1981 and we have lived here ever since. This home was our first house in DC. We currently live in a larger and newer (1905) townhouse in the same neighborhood. We fell in love with Capitol Hill and have raised our three kids here. We love the area and want to share it with others.

Dia Michels purchased this townhome in 1983

Why Dia Michels chose Washington DC

This 1858 charming home is from the Civil War era. The house has been totally upgraded with an open layout, 4 flat screen TVs, an amazing leather sectional sofa, fabulous beds and a lovely front porch and backyard. In addition, we just installed solar panels on the roof! Just one block off Barracks Row, the house is caddy-corner to the Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., the oldest active post in the Corps and near the Washington Naval Yard and old Naval Hospital (now a community center). The house is quaint, yet spacious and with a location just 8 blocks from the U.S. Capitol, the location is ideal.

What makes this townhome unique

Washington DC is a great place to spend time. The city is compressed, so you can get anywhere is a short time. We have great public transportation (the Eastern Market Metro is just 3 blocks away) and the city is flat, so it is perfect for walking and cycling. Rent this house for access to the entire city. Entertain friends, BBQ in the yard or walk around the block where there are dozens of restaurants. Live theater, great parks, free museums and baseball are all just a few steps away!

Fantastic location, very comfortable and well appointed. Great owner support!

  • 5 of 5

The home not only met but exceeded our expectations. It was exactly as described. Very clean, well appointed and in a fantastic location. The beds were quite comfortable and we are very picky due to back issues. The kitchen had everything that we needed, the appliances were newer and worked perfectly. The bathrooms were updated and quite modern. The back yard and the grill were added bonuses. Everything that we needed was in walking distance or a short trip with Uber/Lyft, etc. I was very impressed with the owner, Dia. We had never been to Washington DC before and she was a wealth of information on how to get from Baltimore to DC navigating the mass transit system which saved us lots of money. We did not leave the area until late in the day and Dia allowed us to leave our bags until just before we left for the airport. She was very accommodating. I'd be happy to stay again and am delighted to recommend this home for your stay.

Life-changing experience

  • 5 of 5

I was there last week with my 3 oldest grand children and my son-in-law. Dia's home was the perfect choice! It was close to everything we needed to do---transportation, groceries, etc. Everyone loved their rooms, and Dia's home was well-appointed with needed items in the kitchen and bath areas. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Beautiful!!

Excellent little house for a getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family of 8 adults came down to DC for a 4 day/3 night trip. Dia was very informative and easy to communicate both prior and after our arrival. She gave us all information about the DC area, the metro and restaurants and got us parking passes so we could park right on the block.

The house was perfectly clean and ready to go when we arrived. The kitchen was stocked with some essential items which definitely made our stay easier since we forgot to bring staples like sugar and salt & pepper with us. The kitchen also has really nice appliances and a grill out back so we were able to make breakfast every morning and dinner one night at the house.

One couple slept in the living room on an air mattress, but they easily could have slept on the couch because it was so comfortable. Both beds were very comfortable and even the couple on the pull out bed had no complaints. All in all, this made for a nice night sleep. The house has central air and heating so we were all pretty comfortable. Also, the 3 bathrooms/showers made such a difference. We were all able to get ready easily without it taking forever. The backyard area was very nice, and we took advantage of it most nights to sit outside and relax.

The house itself was just a nice spot for all of us to crash in after a day of sightseeing. We were all comfortable and had a really good time.

As for the surrounding area, the metro station to get you basically anywhere you'd want to be is no more than a 5 minute walk from the house. You can get to all the sights with a 15-20 minute train ride. Really good location. Around the block from the house on 8th street are tons of options for dining (we recommend Lavagna, Capital Doughnuts and & pizza) and stores should you need to get something. (As a side note, we had another great meal at Farmers Fishers Bakers which is right on the water and sooo good.)

This house was lovely with a really great location. We would definitely stay there again!

Perfect for our family trip to Washington

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented the house for a six night visit to D.C. One of our daughters and son in law and their three kids (ages 14 and 12) took advantage of our invitation and joined us. The house is so comfortable and equipped to the max; plenty of nice linens, great towels and an abundance of toiletries. The kitchen appliances were like home and I was impressed that there was even a crock pot and expresso maker. The kids were in heaven with all the big screen TV's and games. We loved being close to the Eastern Market and MANY great restaurants, plus the neighborhood was very charming. Overall a great experience and we have already recommended to others.

Great house on the Hill

  • 5 of 5

It worked wonderfully for 4 men to sleep, shower, and fellowship. We attended a conference at Capitol Hill Baptist Church and were within walking distance to the church and plenty of coffee and food! Thanks!

You Gotta Love Old Houses to Enjoy This One

  • 4 of 5

We appreciated the Responsiveness to small complaints like peeping smoke alarms and not enough lamps, fixed right away by cheerful staff. Not accessible for older people but charming for people who don't have to have one thousand percent privacy. The location and the historic character made us feel part of our national history.
