I moved to Washington DC in 1980 to save the world. Unfortunately, the world could still use quite a bit of help! I, however, fell in love with DC and never left. I met my husband in 1981 and we have lived here ever since. This home was our first house in DC. We currently live in a larger and newer (1905) townhouse in the same neighborhood. We fell in love with Capitol Hill and have raised our three kids here. We love the area and want to share it with others.
Dia Michels purchased this townhome in 1983
This 1858 charming home is from the Civil War era. The house has been totally upgraded with an open layout, 4 flat screen TVs, an amazing leather sectional sofa, fabulous beds and a lovely front porch and backyard. In addition, we just installed solar panels on the roof! Just one block off Barracks Row, the house is caddy-corner to the Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., the oldest active post in the Corps and near the Washington Naval Yard and old Naval Hospital (now a community center). The house is quaint, yet spacious and with a location just 8 blocks from the U.S. Capitol, the location is ideal.
Washington DC is a great place to spend time. The city is compressed, so you can get anywhere is a short time. We have great public transportation (the Eastern Market Metro is just 3 blocks away) and the city is flat, so it is perfect for walking and cycling. Rent this house for access to the entire city. Entertain friends, BBQ in the yard or walk around the block where there are dozens of restaurants. Live theater, great parks, free museums and baseball are all just a few steps away!
Being an owner of a rental property myself, I am always curious to see how others treat their guests and what amenities they provide in the rental home. There is nothing but GREAT to say about this place. A few friends and I came to DC for the Barbra Streisand Concert and decided to stay here because of the location-- close to my daughter who lives in Capitol Hill.
What a find---Kitchen well equipped and toiletries galore. Perfect for a group as plenty of room to spread out and entertain. Eastern Market is nearby with metro and many restaurants shops and the market itself on the weekend was a plus.
Dia was extremely responsive and was able to provide a parking pass at the last minute for my sister who unexpectedly came in town.. Dia was overseas but still made it happen within hours. Now that's what I call exemplary service! Would definitely recommend and hope to return!
Wonderful everything you needed, clean, quiet, family of four . We each had our own space, close to metro, stores close Safeway, restaurants, we would return, very pleased
Family time in DC was made special by this comfortable townhouse and its perfect location. Being just blocks from the Eastern Market and the Metro stop or a 20 minute walk to the Capitol, makes this a perfect spot to rest after a long day of exciting DC sightseeing. A special surprise was the Marine Barracks parade on Friday evening, just a half block away.
This home was perfect for our girls trip to DC. The space was compact, but provided us with everything we needed. There was comfortable sleeping for 5 of us plus it has three full bathrooms which was nice. The owner was very accommodating to our schedule of arrival and departure and allowed us to drop off our luggage early and leave it until our flight. The house was equipped with everything we would need-- toilet paper, paper towels, bath towels, toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and even umbrellas. The kitchen was also well stocked with all the essentials.
The best part of this house is its location. Located one block off from Barrack's Row, this house is very close with delicious local restaurants and convenient stores. Try Teds Bulletin for breakfast or Lavagna for amazing homemade italian. Eastern Market is only two blocks away which offers more restaurants and a local flea market on the weekends.
I would definitely book this house if I return to DC!! Thank you for a great stay.
We had a group of 8 people and the house was very comfortable for us. Nice kitchen and everything was pretty clean. We had a nice trip, thanks!
This was our first time to DC. The house is located in a nice neighborhood with very nice neighbors. The Owner, Dia, went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. We found the house very close to good restaurants and public transportation. I would highly recommend this location and owner!!
The home is located in the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood, on a quiet street, just blocks away from restaurants, the Nationals baseball stadium, the Marine Barracks Washington, D.C. (which has free Parades every Friday night in the summer), the Smithsonian museums, the US Capitol, Supreme Court, National Archives, the Library of Congress, or the Newseum, embassies, etc. Getting around is easy, via walking, Metro, Car2Go, ZipCar, BikeShare, and, of course, by personal auto.
