About Dia Michels

I moved to Washington DC in 1980 to save the world. Unfortunately, the world could still use quite a bit of help! I, however, fell in love with DC and never left. I met my husband in 1981 and we have lived here ever since. This home was our first house in DC. We currently live in a larger and newer (1905) townhouse in the same neighborhood. We fell in love with Capitol Hill and have raised our three kids here. We love the area and want to share it with others.

Dia Michels purchased this townhome in 1983

Why Dia Michels chose Washington DC

This 1858 charming home is from the Civil War era. The house has been totally upgraded with an open layout, 4 flat screen TVs, an amazing leather sectional sofa, fabulous beds and a lovely front porch and backyard. In addition, we just installed solar panels on the roof! Just one block off Barracks Row, the house is caddy-corner to the Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., the oldest active post in the Corps and near the Washington Naval Yard and old Naval Hospital (now a community center). The house is quaint, yet spacious and with a location just 8 blocks from the U.S. Capitol, the location is ideal.

What makes this townhome unique

Washington DC is a great place to spend time. The city is compressed, so you can get anywhere is a short time. We have great public transportation (the Eastern Market Metro is just 3 blocks away) and the city is flat, so it is perfect for walking and cycling. Rent this house for access to the entire city. Entertain friends, BBQ in the yard or walk around the block where there are dozens of restaurants. Live theater, great parks, free museums and baseball are all just a few steps away!

Great location!

My family of 5 just stayed at this row house in DC. Very nice, comfortable, clean historic home! Absolutely loved the area! Very close to restaurants, cafes, Starbucks, and night life! We had a wonderful stay!

Spacious home, lots of amenities and a great location

  • 5 of 5

This home turned out to be the perfect place for a 4-day, ladies-only getaway. Every year we travel to DC for the National Book Festival + other activities. We loved all the space the 5 of us had to spread out - large living room and dining room, spacious, well-stocked kitchen and 3 baths and bedrooms with quality linens. This beats staying in hotel rooms hands down. We were close to the Metro, restaurants, and grocery stores. We also loved using the Circulator bus (.50 - $1) to get around and the stop was nearby. It's an old house, so expect some uneven floors and steps. The owner, Dia, was very responsive when we had questions.

What a wonderful house. Old, creaky floors, odd configurations, all right up a historians' alley. My wife and I have rented many a VRBO/Home Away rentals over the years and this one ranks right there at the top of our list. Dia was probably the easiest person I have ever dealt with when securing a rental. She made everything so simple and accommodated me on several requests. Thank you Dia. As for the house, location, location, location! 3 blocks to the Metro and more restaurants within a mile of the house than we had time to try. When we arrived I parked my vehicle and did not get back in it until it was time to leave (6 days). And the best part is Dia got the parking permit for me! Great rental! Gracious owner! We will be back!

Great Location

  • 5 of 5

It is a great home. It definitely is a historic home so there are some creaky floors but they are beautiful floors. The layout upstairs is kind of odd but I think that's what comes with row houses.

Ample, spacious and updated bathrooms are available.

Renovated kitchen with all the necessities.

The middle bedroom with the pull out couch is kind of weird but very adjustable.

The owners are very accommodating to your needs and will respond to your calls and texts.

Plenty of towels, sheets, and blankets available. The house is very clean.

Because of the location, you have to request a parking permit for your car. But the beauty of this parking permit is that you can park in any residential zone within D.C. This allows you to drive to the major sites and still find residential parking.

But the highlight of this house is the location, location, and location. Perfect for walking to restaurants, flea market on the weekends, Eastern Market for meals or groceries and of course, capitol hill. The house is also very charming. The owners are kid friendly. Overall, we had a great trip and we will be back.

Simply Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in this perfect property located in Capital Hill will long be remembered as one of our favorite VRBO homes. My husband and I met our adult children (son & wife, and our daughter) as well as our grand-doggie for nearly a week in DC. The three rooms upstairs accommodated our needs to a tee. There's a smaller bedroom upstairs in the back (at the top of a back staircase) which has a full bath; the middle room is set up like a lounge but has a sleeping sofa; the front room has a king-sized bed and is quite large. Each of those three rooms has a big screen TV. Again, in terms of sleeping spaces, we were totally satisfied.

Downstairs in the front is a living room with a giant TV and a very large sectional sofa. The middle room is a dining room where we played games and gathered for meals. The fully equipped kitchen is on the other side of the dining room and there's a nice outside space with a grill and seating area.

DC was having a heat wave while we were there- 100 degrees every day - but the temperature inside the house was nice and cool, due to the air conditioning system. We were totally comfortable all of the time. We did not use the outdoor space because it was too steamy, but it would be wonderful in a less humid period of time.

The location is AMAZING. We walked over one street to lots of restaurants and shops- really loved Ted's Bulletin, especially. The lively Eastern Market is just a ten minute walk, slightly past the convenient subway stop. My son and husband walked to the Capitol building which took around 25 minutes (or so) by foot.

We highly recommend this property. It is the perfect launching space for jetting into DC and feeling like you live there, even if it's only a few days. Dia is a tremendous hostess- very responsive, helpful, had our parking passes ready for us on arrival, cheerful........ all your heart desires!

WOW. Even better than we anticipated. A girls weekend to see Barbra Streisand

  • 5 of 5

Being an owner of a rental property myself, I am always curious to see how others treat their guests and what amenities they provide in the rental home. There is nothing but GREAT to say about this place. A few friends and I came to DC for the Barbra Streisand Concert and decided to stay here because of the location-- close to my daughter who lives in Capitol Hill.

What a find---Kitchen well equipped and toiletries galore. Perfect for a group as plenty of room to spread out and entertain. Eastern Market is nearby with metro and many restaurants shops and the market itself on the weekend was a plus.

Dia was extremely responsive and was able to provide a parking pass at the last minute for my sister who unexpectedly came in town.. Dia was overseas but still made it happen within hours. Now that's what I call exemplary service! Would definitely recommend and hope to return!
