Tired of overcrowded freeways and the stress of everyday living? The Bear Hutt is one of the best places to sit and relax in private after a day of playing and exploring what the beautiful rivers and mountains of North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee have to offer. The Bear Hutt comes with a fully equipped kitchen, flat screen TV with satellite, DVD player, gas fireplace, WIFI, outdoor grill and a fire pit. There is plenty of room for parking and to turn your vehicle around if you are trailering your motorcycle. Just bring your food, clothes and toiletries, everything else is taken care of. You'll find that the Bear Hutt is perfect for couples and small families. The wood furniture and mirrors in the cabin were made by the well known artist, Jeff Hutt. Sorry, we no longer accept pets. If you have a motorcycle, it must be trailered up the mountain due to the roads not being paved.
The Bear Hutt is private and located between Murphy and Andrews. It is accessed from a 1/2 mile well maintained gravel road which is off Highway 141.
The Bear Hutt is conveniently located near rafting sites, restaurants, horseback riding, Smokey Mountain National Park, gem mining, pottery studios, antiquing, fishing, hiking, golfing, shopping, biking, canoeing and scenic parkways and skyways. The John Campbell Folk School in Brasstown is 20 minutes away and has summer concerts and fall festivals.

About Jeff & Laura Hutt
We recently moved to the west coast of Florida after living in the Florida Keys for 18 years and fell in love with western North Carolina. We travel back and forth to the Bear Hutt as often as we can. Some say we have the best of both worlds! We hope you enjoy the Bear Hutt as much as we do and come back to visit over and over again.
Jeff & Laura Hutt purchased this Cabin in 2004
Why Jeff & Laura Hutt chose Valleytown
The Bear Hutt is located close to the new casino, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, the John Campbell Folk School, hiking trails and is a beautiful ride through the Nantahala Gorge, Cherohala Skyway and on to the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is close to everything this beautiful area has to offer.
What makes this Cabin unique
The Bear Hutt and setting is very relaxing. Our favorite activities are building fires in our firepit, hiking, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, taking our motorcycle on scenic drives and just exploring all that the area has to offer.

Completely understated. Under promised and way over delivered. A treasure of NC
This place was SO great, we want it all to ourselves. What more could a person ask for? If we had a list of wants for our vacation cabin, this place went above and beyond. The view was breath-taking! The kitchen, and 2 bathrooms were stocked to the max. It really felt like we were guests in someone's home as opposed to a vacation rental. It felt warm and inviting the entire time. There were 6 rocking chairs on the patio! Even the small appointments like the lights and fans on the patio, and the hummingbird feeders. The kitchen is STOCKED with extras in case you forget something. There were birds and lightening bugs all over! It was SO quiet there, it was too quiet almost. I could hear my ears in the evening!
It was also clean as a whistle. But the VIEW....was to die for!
The location is good. We ride motorcycles and the felt centralized to Pisgah, The Dragon, Six Gap and Moonshiner 28. Murphy is basically 10 minutes away with Walmart, groceries, etc. We had 4G LTE service on our phones plus the wifi. But you don't feel like you're in an area that is connected.
Be aware of the directions to getting there. Basically stay right the entire way up, and it's a bit up the hill. Make sure you have either AWD or enough speed. We pulled a trailer with our FWD Tiguan and it took some maneuvering; but it's safe and very manageable.
Incredible view and incredible hospitality
The view is tremendous! Pics don't do it justice. The cabin is cozy, welcoming, and everything you need is there. It's remote enough to feel like you've gotten away but close enough to amenities in Murphy. Jeff & Laura are great hosts! You'll absolutely love it.
The perfect cozy mountain getaway
I booked the Bear hutt last minute after my original plans fell through and boy am I glad they did. Between the breathtaking views, the cozy fireplace, charming front porch, and beautiful hand made wooden artwork, our stay exceeded our expectations. The home owners had great communication with us to make checking in and out very easy. Tucked away in the mountains but still just up the road from the downtown Murphy area. Thank-you!
Amazing view, super clean home!
Can’t say enough good things about this property. We vacation four to five times a year and never go to the same place twice, but I’m seriously considering returning here. The home is comfortable. Love the gas fireplace that kept us warm and cozy. The view cannot be beat, and there’s lots of chairs on the porch so everyone can enjoy, as well as a nice outdoor fire pit. This house has lots of extras and is super clean, which is very important to me. October is beautiful, with lots of color and mountains all around. Thanks to Laura and Jeff for a great stay!
We absolutely loved it!
Gorgeous view, we will be back!
Very clean, comfortable, and well appointed. Modern with nice artistic touches.
The cabin is 30 minutes to the Nantahala River and 30-45 minutes to the Ocoee River. There is horseback riding, pottery studios, boating, rafting and other water sports to enjoy, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Cherohala Skyway for scenic drives, Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, the Appalachian Trail, and of course, gem mining. You are just a day trip away from Dollywood, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinberg in the Smokey Mountains.
