Tired of overcrowded freeways and the stress of everyday living? The Bear Hutt is one of the best places to sit and relax in private after a day of playing and exploring what the beautiful rivers and mountains of North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee have to offer. The Bear Hutt comes with a fully equipped kitchen, flat screen TV with satellite, DVD player, gas fireplace, WIFI, outdoor grill and a fire pit. There is plenty of room for parking and to turn your vehicle around if you are trailering your motorcycle. Just bring your food, clothes and toiletries, everything else is taken care of. You'll find that the Bear Hutt is perfect for couples and small families. The wood furniture and mirrors in the cabin were made by the well known artist, Jeff Hutt.
The Bear Hutt is private and located between Murphy and Andrews. It is accessed from a 1/2 mile well maintained gravel road which is off Highway 141.
The Bear Hutt is conveniently located near rafting sites, restaurants, horseback riding, Smokey Mountain National Park, gem mining, pottery studios, antiquing, fishing, hiking, golfing, shopping, biking, canoeing and scenic parkways and skyways. The John Campbell Folk School in Brasstown is 20 minutes away and has summer concerts and fall festivals.

We recently moved to the west coast of Florida after living in the Florida Keys for 18 years and fell in love with western North Carolina. We travel back and forth to the Bear Hutt as often as we can. Some say we have the best of both worlds! We hope you enjoy the Bear Hutt as much as we do and come back to visit over and over again.
Jeff & Laura Hutt purchased this cabin in 2004
The Bear Hutt is located close to the new casino, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, the John Campbell Folk School, hiking trails and is a beautiful ride through the Nantahala Gorge, Cherohala Skyway and on to the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is close to everything this beautiful area has to offer.
The Bear Hutt and setting is very relaxing. Our favorite activities are building fires in our firepit, hiking, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, taking our motorcycle on scenic drives and just exploring all that the area has to offer.
This place was SO great, we want it all to ourselves. What more could a person ask for? If we had a list of wants for our vacation cabin, this place went above and beyond. The view was breath-taking! The kitchen, and 2 bathrooms were stocked to the max. It really felt like we were guests in someone's home as opposed to a vacation rental. It felt warm and inviting the entire time. There were 6 rocking chairs on the patio! Even the small appointments like the lights and fans on the patio, and the hummingbird feeders. The kitchen is STOCKED with extras in case you forget something. There were birds and lightening bugs all over! It was SO quiet there, it was too quiet almost. I could hear my ears in the evening!
It was also clean as a whistle. But the VIEW....was to die for!
The location is good. We ride motorcycles and the felt centralized to Pisgah, The Dragon, Six Gap and Moonshiner 28. Murphy is basically 10 minutes away with Walmart, groceries, etc. We had 4G LTE service on our phones plus the wifi. But you don't feel like you're in an area that is connected.
Be aware of the directions to getting there. Basically stay right the entire way up, and it's a bit up the hill. Make sure you have either AWD or enough speed. We pulled a trailer with our FWD Tiguan and it took some maneuvering; but it's safe and very manageable.
My wife and I had a fantastic week. We really enjoyed the cabin, and got to explore the surrounding are quite a bit as well. Everything with the cabin was in order, it was spotlessly clean, and well supplied with additional essentials. We also really enjoyed spending evenings on the porch watching the sun set over the mountains.
We will definitely be back, hopefully sometime next summer.
Very warm and inviting. The owners are very accommodating. The location is in close proximity to quite a few desired local destinations.
We enjoyed our stay at The Bear Hutt cabin. Everything we needed was available. The view was gorgeous. The owners were very helpful. We always enjoy that area.
The views from the cabin are beautiful. You can see the fog rising from the Smokey Mts. Is breathtaking. The cabin itself was clean and comfortable. They said it's peaceful and quiet and they are right. The only issue I had was the driveway to the cabin. There is a very steep part as soon as you leave the cabin that is very loose and muddy when it rains, making it very hard to climb in a car. Until addressed I would strongly recommend you have an SUV or 4x4.
We owned a second home in Murphy for many years so revisiting was fun for us. We did the Skyway drive, a trip to Cherokee and the Great Smokey Mountain Park. Enjoyed eating at Shobooties, Doyle's, and Main Street downtown. Unfortunately the Mountainside at the bottom of Zekes Trail was closed for renovations so we did miss that.
The new casino was fun also. Played golf at Chatuge Shores, and took in the Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawassee. Wevslways enjoy Bluegrass Day there.
The cabin was comfortable and the views great. The Hutts were most helpful with any questions we had, and yes I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cabin in the mountains.
