Tired of overcrowded freeways and the stress of everyday living? The Bear Hutt is one of the best places to sit and relax in private after a day of playing and exploring what the beautiful rivers and mountains of North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee have to offer. The Bear Hutt comes with a fully equipped kitchen, flat screen TV with satellite, DVD player, gas fireplace, WIFI, outdoor grill and a fire pit. There is plenty of room for parking and to turn your vehicle around if you are trailering your motorcycle. Just bring your food, clothes and toiletries, everything else is taken care of. You'll find that the Bear Hutt is perfect for couples and small families. The wood furniture and mirrors in the cabin were made by the well known artist, Jeff Hutt.
The Bear Hutt is private and located between Murphy and Andrews. It is accessed from a 1/2 mile well maintained gravel road which is off Highway 141.
The Bear Hutt is conveniently located near rafting sites, restaurants, horseback riding, Smokey Mountain National Park, gem mining, pottery studios, antiquing, fishing, hiking, golfing, shopping, biking, canoeing and scenic parkways and skyways. The John Campbell Folk School in Brasstown is 20 minutes away and has summer concerts and fall festivals.
Average temperatures - Spring nights 40°, days 70°, Summer nights 64°, days 78°, Fall nights 40°, days 68°, Winter nights 20°, days 40°.
We recently moved to the west coast of Florida after living in the Florida Keys for 18 years and fell in love with western North Carolina. We travel back and forth to the Bear Hutt as often as we can. Some say we have the best of both worlds! We hope you enjoy the Bear Hutt as much as we do and come back to visit over and over again.
Jeff & Laura Hutt purchased this cabin in 2004
The Bear Hutt is located close to the new casino, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, the John Campbell Folk School, hiking trails and is a beautiful ride through the Nantahala Gorge, Cherohala Skyway and on to the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is close to everything this beautiful area has to offer.
The Bear Hutt and setting is very relaxing. Our favorite activities are building fires in our firepit, hiking, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, taking our motorcycle on scenic drives and just exploring all that the area has to offer.
This place was SO great, we want it all to ourselves. What more could a person ask for? If we had a list of wants for our vacation cabin, this place went above and beyond. The view was breath-taking! The kitchen, and 2 bathrooms were stocked to the max. It really felt like we were guests in someone's home as opposed to a vacation rental. It felt warm and inviting the entire time. There were 6 rocking chairs on the patio! Even the small appointments like the lights and fans on the patio, and the hummingbird feeders. The kitchen is STOCKED with extras in case you forget something. There were birds and lightening bugs all over! It was SO quiet there, it was too quiet almost. I could hear my ears in the evening!
It was also clean as a whistle. But the VIEW....was to die for!
The location is good. We ride motorcycles and the felt centralized to Pisgah, The Dragon, Six Gap and Moonshiner 28. Murphy is basically 10 minutes away with Walmart, groceries, etc. We had 4G LTE service on our phones plus the wifi. But you don't feel like you're in an area that is connected.
Be aware of the directions to getting there. Basically stay right the entire way up, and it's a bit up the hill. Make sure you have either AWD or enough speed. We pulled a trailer with our FWD Tiguan and it took some maneuvering; but it's safe and very manageable.
Very warm and inviting. The owners are very accommodating. The location is in close proximity to quite a few desired local destinations.
We enjoyed our stay at The Bear Hutt cabin. Everything we needed was available. The view was gorgeous. The owners were very helpful. We always enjoy that area.
The views from the cabin are beautiful. You can see the fog rising from the Smokey Mts. Is breathtaking. The cabin itself was clean and comfortable. They said it's peaceful and quiet and they are right. The only issue I had was the driveway to the cabin. There is a very steep part as soon as you leave the cabin that is very loose and muddy when it rains, making it very hard to climb in a car. Until addressed I would strongly recommend you have an SUV or 4x4.
We owned a second home in Murphy for many years so revisiting was fun for us. We did the Skyway drive, a trip to Cherokee and the Great Smokey Mountain Park. Enjoyed eating at Shobooties, Doyle's, and Main Street downtown. Unfortunately the Mountainside at the bottom of Zekes Trail was closed for renovations so we did miss that.
The new casino was fun also. Played golf at Chatuge Shores, and took in the Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawassee. Wevslways enjoy Bluegrass Day there.
The cabin was comfortable and the views great. The Hutts were most helpful with any questions we had, and yes I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cabin in the mountains.
Booked at last minute (right before the holiday) with no problems whatsoever! Owners are very responsive and friendly. The drive to the cabin was not as bad as most I have driven to. We use 4WD, but I am certain a car in low gear could manage. The cabin is squeaky clean and has a nice light scent. Unfortunately, a lot of cabins I've visited have a bit of a damp or mildew smell, but not the bear hutt! It's also nicely appointed with beautiful and unique decor (the mirrors, headboards and some furnishings are clearly handmade). Extra towels, linens and warm blankets are also provided as well as soap! Since our trip was last minute we forgot small items that most cabins require, such as salt and paper towel, so it was *really* nice to have them stocked. Really, you don't need anything except food and a toothbrush! The bear hutt is also reasonably priced with a refundable damage deposit that won't exceed your credit limit, making a safe and comfortable Appalachian mountain getaway a possibility for just about everyone on any budget. The firepit was well used on our visit (we love s'mores) and we didn't have to worry about lighting any trees or brush as they had been cleared. The breathtaking view is absolutely stunning!! I loved sitting in the rocking chair sipping my morning coffee while watching the clouds slowly twirl about the mountains. From booking to check out, all my expectations were exceeded!! Thank you so much for sharing your cabin with us! We will definitely be back!!
The cabin is 30 minutes to the Nantahala River and 30-45 minutes to the Ocoee River. There is horseback riding, pottery studios, boating, rafting and other water sports to enjoy, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Cherohala Skyway for scenic drives, Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, the Appalachian Trail, and of course, gem mining. You are just a day trip away from Dollywood, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinberg in the Smokey Mountains.
