We booked this property based on the pictures and information provided to us but we ended up having to find different accommodation after our first night there. You will notice that there are no pictures of the surroundings posted...it's for a reason. The house is right besides a "resto-bar" which we were told only opens on weekends and given it was low season (we were there in August 2018), sometimes does not even open, that the music was not too loud and that if open they close it by 10pm. When we arrived, we found out that the resto bar is basically steps from the property (on the bedrooms side) and has a sign which advertises "New Years party every night in Curia". The day we arrived, the music was loud and there were about 8 guys drinking on the outside tables. We asked the manager and she indicated that those people must have hired the owner to open (likely not given the sign which indicates it's open daily). We expressed our concern about the noise and she said that it they don't turn it off by 10:30 to let her know so that she can call the police to shut them down. She said that this is what she normally does when they are open late... I'm not sure how other people feel about it but I don't really want to be the tourist shutting down the local's party by calling the police on them!
This was not the only problem - briefly here are the other problems we encountered:
- not enough dishes/cutlery and all the dishes were extremely dirty with old food and grease caked onto them. The coffee maker had been left with the filter and grounds and it was full of mould. The manager did not take any responsibility and she simple said that the previous guest must have left it like that.
- the WIFI was not working and the manager only started to do something about it when we complained
- the water pressure was low (be prepared for a shower turning from cold to burning hot) and the upstairs toilet was clogged)
You would think that they check things are clean and in working order before guests arrive.
If you can get past the deficiencies of the house and don't mind the noise from the bar. Be aware that the beach is used as a road so motorcycles and trucks go by often and there are packs of dogs hanging out on the beach (the kind that would chase you down...)
We were refunded some of the money for our stay but were very disappointed and surprised that they charged us the one night we had to suffer there and for part of the cleaning fee. Shame.
I’m very sorry that these guests did not enjoy their stay, however It was obvious from the moment that they arrived that their trip had been filled with challenges, and they were not having a good time. Unfortunately, during this period the bar was breaking the rules by being noisy and staying open too late. That issue has since been resolved. When I rented the house to them the house was clean as were the dishes. The WIFI was also working. I advised them to let me know if they need anything and that I would do whatever I can to make their stay as pleasant as possible. They called me and stated that one of the toilets was clogged, and so I immediately called a pl;umber. They called right back stating that it was working fine. They also stated that the WIFI wasn’t working, and so I immediately called to get it looked at.
The beach is a beautiful eight mile long flat beach that families come from all over to enjoy the tranquility of the waves. It is also one of the best beginning/intermediate surfing beaches in the country. It is not used as a freeway. There is an occasional motorcycle that drives up and down the beach selling fish to the local residents.
I am sorry that they did not enjoy their stay. I wish for all of my guests to have a great time as they usually do. I feel that I was more than fair in refunding all of the money for the remainder of the stay as I was not obligated to do that. I always do my best to make sure that all of my guests have the best time possible, but it became very clear that there was nothing that I was going to be able to do to make these guests happy.
Quiet, friendly and good value
Sorry we didn't have more time!
We love to have you as our guests!
We hope you can come back with more days of vacations...
great location directly on the beach
This home is in a great location however this house needs a lot of attention and cleaning. There were so many mosquitos and noseeums in the house we got bitten so very badly. We sprayed heavily with raid and after we found many dead mosquitos all over the house but more kept getting inside and we realized there are so many you cant win. I don't know why it would be so bad we did not experience any bites the 10 days before coming to this house. We noticed some of the window screens were ripped letting these bugs in. The air conditioner in the master bedroom is so loud one cannot sleep with it going and you couldn't sleep with the balcony doors open at night due to the bugs. My husband slept on the couch cause there were so many mosquitos biting him in the bedroom but it didn't make any difference, he was awake all night. When we arrived there were ants all over the counters in the kitchen and we sprayed to remove them as well. We did not eat there so it was odd to have so many there. The beach is wonderful, this could be the perfect get away with some attention and cleaning. The curtains in the bedrooms are very old and have holes in them and terrible stains. The windows need washing, and the area near the big windows need cleaning there are so many dead bugs and dust there. We were a bit disappointed with the overall cleanliness and bugs. Upstairs bathroom toilet didn't refill so we were always adding water to it. So Sorry, Carolina, you were so very nice and informative but I can only give this rental a 2 out of five. The best news is that it can be fixed up, fumigated and cleaned up and it could be wonderful.
The home was well maintained and had everything we needed. The care provided by Carolina was very responsive, if a problem arose. We loved Danillo's next door and had a great time surfing right in front of the home, especially at sunset. The beach was amazing and the location was near enough to Olon and Montanita, but much quieter. Our family had a wonderful time at Casa Blanca in Curia.
Thanks a lot for your comment and we loved to have you as our guest in our house!
We like to offer our customers the best we can so you can enjoy your holydays in a lovely place.
My own private beach.
This was our second stay at this home. The beach was nearly empty every day. The house is as advertised. Catalina was a great host. Close by but not intrusive. Bought fish bread, eggs beer from the local community. My Spanish is terrible, but we managed to get by. Avoid the crowds and chaos of Montinita and stay in Curia.
Relaxing on a quiet beach!
The great -- The house is on a great quiet beach with a beach bar and restaurant 100 feet away (weekends only). Going to sleep every night to the rhythmic sounds of the ocean. Casa Blanca is a 25 minute walk or 5 minute taxi down the beach to Olan where there are restaurants with good music and lots of beach bars. If more action is desired a 10 minute taxi to Montanita. The house is comfortable and roomy. The 2 porches are great for socializing and watching the sun go down. Fish venders are up and down the beach all morning hawking inexpensive shrimp and fish.
The outstanding – Carolina and Enrique. When the cooking gas ran out at 7 AM we called them thinking that we would get gas on Ecuador time. There were over in less than 10 minutes with a new tank of gas. When they cleaned the house it was spotless. They are a fun and loving couple who made us laugh.
The not so good -- Internet and water were spotty. This was not a Casa Blanca problem as our friends staying in Olan had the same problems. Call it Ecuador.
