Clayton is a charming town in northeast Georgia - visit the shops and restaurants in the historical Main Street. Yet it also has the modern conveniences of major retailers such as Ingles (grocery), Wal-Mart and The Home Depot. It is 2 miles south of Black Rock Mountain state park; close to Lake Burton and Lake Rabun. It is also close to Tullulah Falls, Dillard, Sky Valley (NC), Dillsboro, Hiawassee, and Highlands and Asheville (NC).

I've posted Reviews on the local restaurants and amenities; please see a separate link to access these!

We love it there and love sharing it!

About Beth Taylor

Why Beth Taylor chose North Georgia Mountains

Clayton is big enough to stay awhile and stay entertained...but small enough to dial down and relax. Being 90 minutes from Atlanta was a criteria; easy weekend get-away.

What makes this cabin unique

We're secluded on the side of a mountain under a canopy of trees, yet 2 minutes from downtown or the grocery store.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy your cabin for the weekend while we were here for the Warrior Dash. Your cabin is beautiful, relaxing and very clean. It was the perfect retreat for 3 couples. Our only suggestion would be to label the light switches :).

Thank you again!

Very nice cabin in a good location near town but not "in town".

  • 5 of 5

We will plan to return to this cabin if we are ever back in the Clayton area again. It was well appointed, very, very clean and modern, and Beth was very good to deal with. She was extremely communicative and readily available for questions, etc. I would recommend this home to friends or family.

Great , relaxing place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The house was just what we wanted! There were 3 couples and we all had our separate bedrooms & BATHROOMS. We did quite a bit of cooking and we found the kitchen to be fully equipped with what we needed. Just a suggestion.......you might want to bring your own pillow!!

Quite Comfortable and Very Responsive Owners

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay over four nights in August 2017. We had four adults and two small children with our group. The children slept in cots and a pack-n-play (we brought them with us) in one room and there was plenty of space. The kitchen was very well stocked and we enjoyed grilling with the gas grill twice while we were there. In Clayton we found that Mama G's Italian had delicious pizza, salad, and garlic knots our first night. The cabin is only five minutes from a huge Ingles grocery store that had everything we needed for our group and this made meal planning much easier with small children. We ended up purchasing new propane for the grill and a child gate for the stairs (we left both in the cabin for future guests) and Beth was exceptionally responsive, friendly and easy to work with. On the downside, we weren't really excited about having to take our trash and recycling to one of the county drop off centers several miles away and we were quite surprised to have to sort our own recycling materials at the dumpsters. We were thankful to have a large SUV, as hauling our trash and recycling in a small car would have been pretty unpleasant. Mosquitoes unfortunately kept us off the porch in the evenings but mornings were generally bug-free and pleasantly cool. We found quite a bit to do in the Clayton area and we went home with maps and guides containing enough activities for several trips in the area in the future. Becky Branch Falls near War Woman Dell, Wildcat Creek, the Lake Burton Fish Hatchery, the Dillard House, and Black Rock Mountain State Park were enough to keep us busy during our trip. The weather was wonderful and it was a welcome respite from our warmer temps at home. We would definitely consider returning again in the future and we would recommend this cabin to others.

Owner's Response: Hello! Thank you for taking the time to write a review; I'm so glad you enjoyed your time at our cabin in Clayton! Such relaxing place! I assume the 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the trash/recycle situation in the mountains. For the benefit of potential guests reading your review who may have a concern about this I'm including here our instructions about it. I've added based on your comment the need to separate materials for recycling. The recycling folks on 76E will actually do it for you if you'd like (I should add that to my instructions). One of the women there is the sweetest ever; she gave me a big Christmas hug last year. And the garden club plants flowers there. I just love the small town ways. Anyway: the Instructions: Garbage and Recycling - IMPORTANT Trash bags are provided for your use. Do not store or leave garbage outside, including decks, as this will attract animals. Your cleaning fee includes disposal by our Service of one full trash bag (white 10-gallon size that is contained in our trash can under the kitchen sink). If you have more than one trash bag you have the option to dispose of it yourself (we are in the country – no pickup!) Or, if you leave it for our cleaning service there will be an additional $25 charge. The closest Recycling Center for disposal (this is free) is on 76 East, about 2-3 miles east of 441N, on the right side of 76 East.. Hours are 7 days a week. There is also a Recycling Center just past Tallulah Falls on the right headed south toward Atlanta about 12 miles from Clayton (easiest on/off 441 access); also free. These Recycling Centers also accept recyclable items such as glass, newspapers, plastic, aluminum and tin cans, if you desire to recycle (we hope you do!) Please note the Recycle Centers require distribution of the recycled material into separate containers for each material type onsite once you get there.

Quiet retreat

  • 5 of 5

Great cabin in a quiet location. Tallulah Falls is nearby and I highly recommend it. It is a very strenuous hike but worth it. Get there early as they only issue 100 permits a day to hike the whole trail. You can hike some trails without a permit . Black Rock Moutain has a few decent hikes as well. The main reason we visited was for rafting the Chatatooga and it didn't disappoint. Southeastern Expeditions did an awesome job getting us down the river safely! (I recommend Andys Market for meat and groceries if needed. Great local supermarket with friendly, helpful staff.)

Great cabin

  • 5 of 5

It's an awesome cabin. Really nice and perfect for 6 people. There are a couple things to consider. One, the road leading to the cabin is gravel and not the best of shape. If we had taken a car with low ground clearance, I am not sure we would have made the hill. My 4x4 Ram did fine, as did the Highlander, but an MG...probably not so much. And the road is narrow. Second is the water. It's on a well system and if everyone needs a shower in a short period of time, you'll likely not have much water pressure. Hot water, yes...but no pressure. The owner was very helpful in dealing with our water issue. That said, if I was traveling back to Clayton again, I would rent this cabin again in a blink. Oh...and the Rusty Bike Cafe is the bomb for breakfast.
