About Tasey Miyahira Owner/Manager

I grew up here on Maui by Mama's Fish House on the beach of Kuau with many fond memories of spear fishing, catching lobster, and grilling our catch on the beach. One day, me and my buddies were watching Don Ho singing, 'Tiny Bubbles' at Mama's Fish House as young boys peeking in the window. As I grew, I went hunting for deer and pig upcountry. Then I knew this land up in the clouds was my piece of paradise. The tranquil cool breezes, lush greenery, and rainbow skies were for me.

Tasey Miyahira Owner/Manager purchased this house in 1991

Why Tasey Miyahira Owner/Manager chose Maui

Our piece of paradise is this peaceful mountain home. We work all day or play all day and return to relax at our piece of paradise with beautiful views. There are close amenities, shopping, and activities. The elevation keeps it cool and green year round. We enjoyed growing flowers and planting different fruit trees.

What makes this house unique

Our best holidays at our home is about family coming together grilling and visiting outside our carport with the cool breeze. There is a private drive for our kids to run, bike, and play with no worries. The sunsets, rainbows, and ocean view from the lanai at breakfast or early dinners. The den downstairs is great for the kid's movies, games, and stereo. The upstairs den, TV, and stereo for our other family. In the master suite, TV or a quiet peaceful Jacuzzi tub for the adult night to enjoy and relax.

We love our small town amenities and activities, open green mountain pastures, the cool breezes, and the view from the lanai. All about the Hawaiian Aloha.

Perfect Location and Setting

  • 5 of 5

Our family was in Maui for our daughter's wedding in Pukalani. This house was the perfect setting for our family: parents; brother, wife & son; aunt, and uncle. We loved sitting out in the yard or on the lanai watching the playful goats and grazing cattle. The kitchen was amply equipped with every tool we needed. The spa bathtub was appreciated by those of us who went on strenuous day hikes and was fun for our 4 year old grandson. The separate downstairs entrance allowed for additional privacy among family members, yet had convenient access to the main house via the stairway to the lanai. We were impressed and grateful for the 2 huge capacity washers and 3 dryers which allowed us to keep everything clean without having to wait for another person to finish. Tasey was great about answering any questions I had and doing it quickly.

A few suggestions I would make:

-We would have appreciated some more bath towels, and not every room had beach towels.

-There were only 2 kitchen towels that we could find, which really wasn't enough for the continual preparation of meals for 8 people.

-The downstairs did have a refrigerator, but a microwave would be of great help for warming up a morning cup of tea or coffee or preparing some evening popcorn for the guests who did not want to bother the upstairs folks.

All in all we had a great time and were delighted with the accommodations!

Amazing place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at this property. We had the whole house including the ground floor apartment and did not find anything lacking. We appreciated that all the little necessities were provided (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, towels, washing detergent etc.) as these are often left out. We had more than enough beach equipment (boogie boards, umbrella, chairs) and the kitchen was well stocked. The house was cozy, clean and had more than enough room for 6 of us plus 2 babies. We appreciated being a little farther removed from the busyness of Kihei but close enough that it only took about half an hour to get down to the south side. The owner was very accommodating of our needs and was a pleasure to deal with, despite all the questions we had. We 100% would stay here again. Mahalo!

Great place to stay at up country

  • 4 of 5

The house has 4 different bed rooms which is rare to find. If you are planning to stay Makawao area with big family or group, this is ideal place.

Although tt is located at very quiet area, itʻs only 5 minutes from downtown Makawao.

Country Home in Makawao, Maui

  • 4 of 5

During our Hawaii vacation, our party of six stayed in houses in Waikiki, Kona, Hilo and Makawao. Upon returning to Washington DC on January 16, 2017, I immediately missed the Makawao house the most because of fond memories relaxing on the lounge chairs in the yard listening to the mooing cows. The Makawao house is located on a large property with very convenient access to Haleakala National Park for sunrise and sunset viewing, and the Hana highway. There are many restaurants within 30 minutes drive to Kahului, where the airport is located. Please note that the house is divided into two separate units with 2 bed rooms/2 bathrooms in the upstairs unit, and two bedrooms/1.5 bathrooms in the downstairs unit. There are two sets of washers/dryers, one for each unit. The only negative is that the house was minimally stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, and dish washing liquid.

Owner's Response: Aloha, Mahalo for loving our home, area, and small town. I apologize for any inconvenience with toilet paper and paper towels. My cleaners are instructed to replace a fresh new roll toilet paper and three new rolls in a visual holder with extra in the close cabinet. We will improve. Mahalo for your review.

Beautifully Peaceful Upcountry Retreat

  • 4 of 5

There were 6 of us staying at the Maui One rental home. It was a great fit for us. Lots of great gathering space, a good size kitchen for all of us to work in, and plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. We were so pleased with the location, with it's great view from the deck of Makawao farms and the mountains and north shore in the distance. It was quiet and restful, and when we visited the more touristy locations in Lahaina and Napili we were thrilled we'd made this upcountry choice! You'll enjoy great island breezes here to keep you cool, as well as the lovely sounds of nature surrounding you.

It seemed that everything was within easy driving distance from the house, like the airport, Costco and Target, which were all 20 minutes away. The house was within walking distance of downtown Makawao for both grocery and souvenir shopping. We lucked out and happened to be there for the third Friday of the month, when Maui Fridays comes to Makawao, with its street fair and live music. The location puts you much closer to Haleakala, so you don't have to get up as early as the west coast tourists to go see a beautiful mountain-top sunrise. The Highway to Hana starts very near to the rental. And if you want some spa services, there's The Maui School of Therapeutic Massage in downtown Makawao for very inexpensive student massage. Or go just 10 minutes out of town to the amazing Ho'omana Spa Maui for luxury treatment from the professionals.

The house was very much as described by the owner. There were several washers and dryers for laundry in the carport, well supplied bathrooms, and basic kitchen supplies. (Though I thought it was cruel on the first morning to find a coffee pot without even a starter pack of coffee for us to make!!) My one negative would be that the downstairs apartment was VERY musty and damp smelling when we arrived. I wouldn't have been able to sleep down there, so I was glad I ended up upstairs. We had to open up all doors and windows to air out the downstairs to make it breathable. Not so much of a problem with the cool weather we had, even in August. Be aware you will need to climb stairs to get into both the downstairs and upstairs living areas, so if you have anyone in your party incapable of that, this is not the place for you.

We had no interaction with the owner other than initially setting up the rental, so I can't speak much on that front. Tasey was very professional and helpful in her email communications.

Our goals are to maintenance, clean, and replace all linens as perfect as possible for each guest. While we respect all guest's privacy during their stay at our home. My cell number is posted inside and outside of our rental vacation for any guests concerns. We will work harder to improve. Mahalo, Tasey
