Sproat Lake House Rental Photos and Description

Spacious 2 bedroom garden suite with lakefront dock

Large 2 BR suite in house on Sproat Lake, with waterfront dock and boat mooring for summer fun. Sproat Lake is a large, deep clean lake that warms up nicely in the summer. The lake has 4 arms, 2 of which are largely uninhabited, but accessible by boat. The suite has a big covered patio adjoining a huge garden, with a view of the lake and access to the lake. There is always shade somewhere on the hot days of summer and the suite stays naturally cool in the extreme heat we usually experience here in July and August. Full kitchen and bath, as well as separate shower room and laundry facilities. Furnished, including BBQ, kitchen utensils, bed linens and bath towels. Fiber optic wi-fi. Free use of a canoe and two lake kayaks.

-- 2 bedrooms, each with a queen bed, a queen hide-a-bed couch in the living room and a 3/4 fold-down bed/couch in kitchen. Max occupancy: 6.

-- Located near the famous Mars Water Bombers and Sproat Lake Provincial Park. Glider flights at the nearby local airport.

-- Perfect for day trips to Tofino, Ucluelet and Long Beach, Mount Arrowsmith and Bamfield.

-- Bring your boat and water ski, or just relax on the lake!

--Suite is fully equipped and self-contained on lower, walkout-level of two-storey house. Hosts are upstairs. There is about a 3 minute walk through the long narrow property to the lakeside. Golf cart available for heavy loads and those with difficulty walking.

- RATES: Please check the rates tab for accurate rates in Canadian dollars. The front page often displays rates in US dollars and/or averages the rates from the high and low seasons, creating misleading estimates.

--WINTER: If you're thinking of a winter rental, the situation is different. The lake is too cold for swimming without a wet suit, although you can often still canoe. The winter months are especially suitable for retreat activities, for example, writing, reflection, meditation, etc, where you can take advantage of quiet and isolation. At that time of year, you might enjoy side trips to the outer coast (Tofino, etc) to see the sights of 'the storm season' or to Mount Washington to ski, snowshoe or snow board.

About Ann Taylor

Arne is an expert and advisor in sustainable transportation and an amazing musician. Ann is a semi-retired school teacher, who now works supporting home learners, when she is not expanding the garden.

Ann Taylor purchased this house in 1992

Why Ann Taylor chose British Columbia

We've owned riverfront and ocean front and realized that lake front is the most friendly and usable form of waterfront. Sproat Lake is the best lake on Vancouver Island for cleanliness and temperature and we enjoyed 15 summers here with our children before making the shift to live here full time. The summers here tend to be exceptionally hot for Vancouver Island, so it's a wonderful place to spend time by the lake. The lake itself is beautifully warm (for Canada) and clean. We have a deep water swimming area protected by a log boom.

What makes this house unique

The huge attraction in the summer is the spectacular lake and all its pleasures. We also have a large garden with nooks in which to read, meditate, sip wine or commune with nature. In the early morning you may hear loons calling. You can also enjoy the local nature and historical sites and the considerable range of other wilderness and adventure destinations both east and west of us on Vancouver Island.

Happy holidays!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 3rd year staying with Ann & Arn! We come back because we love feeling like we are coming back home every year. The space has a feeling of total hominess. Everything you need is provided. Stepping outside onto your own private, totally covered patio, into the setting of an English garden makes you feel happy and content. Walking down the lane to the lake brings its own breath of fresh air. The dock is covered making hot sunny days more enjoyable. Everything is pristine and welcoming. Arn and Ann thank you!! See you again next year!

Comfortable cabin in stunning lakeside surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week at Sproat Lake, using this suite as our base to explore the lake and surrounding area. The suite was very comfortable for six adults and one nine year old. There is a lot of outdoor space with a patio and gardens as well as a dock right on the water with shade and deck chairs. The water was lovely and clear for swimming. It's a 2 minute walk from the suite and there's even a golf cart to go back and forth!

The hosts had provided everything you could think of, from kitchen supplies to water toys, kayaks and a canoe! They were on hand to answer any questions but were not "in your face" and we had plenty of privacy.

Wonderful family relaxation

  • 5 of 5

This was our family's favourite place on our tour of British Columbia! A combination of wonderful weather, beautiful setting, spotless and comfortable accommodation and perhaps most of all the private dock, well stocked with floats, chairs and everything we needed for relaxation in and by the lake. The water is crystal clear and so warm. The apartment is even more spacious than it appears in the photos, the patio is lovely and it is all very well equipped. We had great fun canoeing too. Our hosts made us very welcome and were equally warm and welcoming to family who came to visit us there. Now they want to stay next year! Many thanks again.

Very Nice Relaxing Property

  • 5 of 5

The property is very quiet, spacious, and a beautiful garden and patio area. The rooms were spacious and clean. Lot's of living area for a family of 4 to 5. The lake is beautiful with a huge dock to sit on a relax or go swimming. The owners were the best part. Very hospitable, genuine people. They took the time to tend to any of our requests. By the end of our stay they felt like part of our extended family. We went on a tour of the lake and they showed us a beautiful waterfall that tourists wouldn't know about. I would recommend this accommodation to any families or couples looking for a relaxing get away and very friendly hospitable hosts.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Harvey and Lorraine! We enjoyed your stay here, too, and showing you Fossli Park. Sometimes, if the group isn't too big, we like to add extra value in the form of a boat trip or other outing. You were great company.

Perfect Location!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this lovely, lovely suite while my daughter attended a hockey camp in Port Alberni. It was the perfect location with just a 10 minute drive to town, but so central to explore the surrounding areas of the Island. Anne & Arne have a flair for hosting and it shows in the care they have taken to ensure the suite is stocked with everything you need including a very well-stocked kitchen, washer & dryer, outdoor rack to dry suits & towels, Netflix for quiet times, float toys for the kids, lounge chairs on the dock, etc. The lake is a treasure...warm, clean and very quiet compared to some of the bigger lakes we have been to in the province. Anne & Arne have also compiled travel information in the suite which was a great resource - tried many of the restaurants they recommended and was not disappointed - fabulous service & food! We look forward to returning next year!

Owner's Response: Thanks for you kind words, Jen! You're right about Sproat Lake: it's a wonderful big, deep, clean lake, warm in the summer, and oddly undiscovered next to other popular lakes. And the location in the middle of Vancouver Island is perfect for working it into a series a mini-holidays in Ucluelet/Tofino, Bamfield, Strathcona Park, etc--or taking day trips to Horne Lake Caves, Coombs/Errington, etc.

Highlight of our summer!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Ann and Arne's gorgeous Sproat Lake home was wonderful in every way. The suite was lovely and comfortable, the weather was hot and sunny, and the dock was the perfect spot to splash and relax. We come to Vancouver Island every summer but this was our first time at Sproat Lake and we will definitely be back! Ann and Arne were generous and gracious hosts, making us feel welcome and at home in their gorgeous garden oasis. My kids had a blast swimming at the lake for hours, and loved chilling out inside with Netflix and popcorn in the evenings. I savoured my morning coffee outside on the patio, the comfort of a well stocked kitchen and cozy beds to fall into at night. A fabulous holiday!

Owner's Response: Thanks, Andrea! It was fun spending a bit of time with you and your little girls on the dock while the boys were in hockey camp. We had other guests who also had kids in hockey camps and it worked well for that.

In Port Alberni, there is a historical sawmill and a steam train as well as a museum, art gallery, native art and historical sites. At Stamp Falls you can see spectacular salmon runs if the timing is right. There are glider flights and a Mars water bomber museum. Port Alberni is a big salmon fishing center, both for both commercial and sports fisheries.

We are just over an hour's drive from Tofino and Ucluelet on the West Coast of Vancouver Island where you can go whale watching, surfing, ocean fishing and kayaking. An hour in the other direction takes you to Horne Lake caves for spectacular spelunking adventures. There is lots of hiking and mountain biking territory.
