Guestbook comments from the manager

The Getaway was everything we needed! Perfect place to relax, enjoy the mountain views and "Getaway". The house is fully furnished and all we needed to bring was our food, drink and personal items. Everything is very well maintained and is in town, so you are close to everything in Banner Elk. The house is on a very quiet street and the paved driveway was a bonus. We even walked into downtown, via the Greenway Trail. Had a great time and will be back very soon.

Comfortable Home - Great Location

  • 5 of 5

From the minute we walked in the door, we felt at home. The home was clean and very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. We loved that we could walk into town and that we were so close to golf courses, hiking trails and all the surrounding towns. Coming from Florida, we enjoyed the beautiful weather with temperatures of highs in the 70’s and lows in the 50’s. We couldn’t believe it was August and we were lighting the beautiful gas fireplace a few times. We highly recommend “The Getaway”.

Couldn't have chosen a better cabin!

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect cabin! My family and I loved it the minute we walked in. The driveway can be a bit overwhelming for someone who's never been on a mountain because it's very steep but its definitely doable. Personally, as someone who doesn't like heights and neither does my family, this is not something that should stop you from the fun of being in this cabin!! The minute we stepped in the cabin we absolutely fell in love with it. The cozy living room is just perfect. Lovely gas fireplace, very easy to handle, and a very comfortable couch. The two bedrooms are really spacious. The bathrooms and everything else is very well decorated and everything is extremely clean. The pictures here don't do any justice to the cabin itself. We spent the nights making smores in the oven and watching movies around the fireplace. A great surprise to us was all the board games inside one of the rooms and also in the drawers of the living room. I got so excited I wanted to play them all at the same time. Also it has nintendos and other game consoles, some that I used to play as a little girl, which was awesome. The location is perfect. Is walking distance to downtown and it only takes like a minute or two in car. It has very nice little restaurants around. Banner elk cafe was lovely and a recommendation I give you is to try the "lodge hot cocoa." this is definitely the perfect cabin!

Just what we needed

  • 5 of 5

Nice little mountain cabin. Close to town. At the base of Dogwood Road there is a paved path into town, It was great since it was the wholly worm festival ...traffic was a little insane...walking was the best way to see it all. Beautiful area!

Just what we needed.

  • 5 of 5

We spent three nights here for Thanksgiving 2016. The cabin was just as described and was perfect for our family of five. I was concerned about the driveway, but it actually wasn't as bad as I'd pictured in my head. It's long and steep, but not as steep as I expected. We have a Toyota Avalon and could turn around at the top fairly easily, but a big SUV would definitely find it challenging to turn around. We used the gas fireplace all weekend and kept most of the electric floor heaters off. The king bed and bedding were super comfortable and my daughter (5) loved the top bunk of the bunk beds. The kitchen was very well-equipped. We had picked up Cracker Barrel on the way and had to heat up a lot of things and I found all the dishes and pots and pans I needed. People seem to have left behind spices, sugar, flour, Pam, olive oil, etc. in the kitchen, so that was helpful to have. There were even a handful of Keurig coffees on the counter. The deck was very nice, but too cold for us to really use. The living room was cozy and comfy (though it could use a couple more lamps). It was kind of dark at night. We weren't really familiar with the area and were just looking to get away from Knoxville for a few days, but found this to be a perfect location to explore the Blue Ridge Parkway, Boone and Blowing Rock. It was close to town, but felt far away. The drives around the area were spectacular. We ended up hauling a Christmas tree home after seeing so many farms in the area and knowing we'd pay twice as much at Home Depot for a Fraser fir. This was a great little getaway, priced fairly, and very clean. I'd highly recommend it. Thanks for having us.
