Light and bright with floor to ceiling sliding glass doors in every room. The views over the wetland to the pond are phenomenal. A truly magical spot to watch the glow of the menemsha sunset. A short walk to a private sandy beach for swimming, kayaking, or sunbathing. Recent improvements include new appliances, new kitchen, new bathroom vanity, paint throughout, new window treatments, flat screen tv.
We are a 4th generation family of Vineyard goers. Our parents purchased this property in 1991 and now we are taking it over, updating it, and loving it. We are from all over the country...San Francisco, DC and New York.
Mara Linden Cohen purchased this house in 1991
Our mother grew up coming to the Vineyard in the house next door, and knew she loved this exact location and jumped at this cottage when it came on the market.
About a 5 minute stroll down the path is a lovely semi-private beach that's always deserted. Perfect for young & curious shell-gatherers & clam-diggers. Water stays shallow quite a ways out. You can keep small boats on the beach, or at a mooring, swim Manemsha Pond, or just sit and watch the sail boats. For the bigger waves Squibby and Lucy Vincent are very close. Stunning view from the deck across marshland and Menemsha Pond. Wide deck is perfect for post beach BBQ's or a game of cards.
An exceptional property in every way.
First, the views: you look out over marsh to Menemsha Pond, the Sound, and the Elizabeth Islands. One of the most spectacular vantage points on the island. And the house itself is designed to maximize this. It's basically a classic beach cottage (though with an updated kitchen, flat screen tv and high speed wifi) but the water facing wall is almost entirely glass. So there's a sense of being in nature even when indoors. The furnishings are all comfortable and cozy, and there's a huge wraparound deck. I was there in October, and an unusually cold October at that, so I was very glad the heat worked flawlessly.
The location is also ideal. It's on the edge of Chilmark right near the Aquinnah border, which means you're close to most spectacular ocean beaches on the Vineyard (Lucy Vincent, Philbin, and the landbank beach near the lighthouse). You're also very close to Menemsha village if you desire a touch of civilization.
The owner was a pleasure to work with, responding promptly and helpfully to any questions I had.
A great property in one of the most spectacular parts of the Vineyard. Stay here if you can!
This was our second time staying at this fabulous cottage in Chilmark. Words can't express what a great time we had! The newly updated house is perfect - adorable, great location, clean, comfortable - everything you want in a vacation home. The view of Menemsha Pond is breathtaking too. The owners are also very helpful and accommodating. I can't wait till we return next summer.
This was our first time vacationing on Martha's Vineyard and we were not disappointed. In any way! Mara Cohen was fantastic to work with, she and her family gave us much appreciated and critical tips on things to do and see (Larsen's, Great Rock Bight, Lucy Vincent Beach just to name a few) and this house was absolutely perfect. The views, our very own "Short Beach," the location in stunning Chilmark, all just so memorable and completely worth the trip. We could've stayed for a month! Maybe we should next time?
Just spent 4 days at the Moore House with my 3 close friends. We had a wonderful time relaxing and enjoying the gorgeous view from the house and deck. The sunsets were spectacular. It is a 5 minute walk to the private beach on Menenemsha Pond, perfect for swimming or kayaking. I took a bike ride out to Lobsterville - the other side of the pond, which is a beach of beauty and solitude. We ordered steamed lobster from Larsen's Fish Market and enjoyed it back at the house with local corn and made some tasty salads in the new, well equipped kitchen.
This fantastic location was a perfect base to explore the shops in Edgartown and Vineyard Haven. The campground of Victorian cottages in Oak Bluffs is not to be missed. Chilmark Chocolate was close to home and definitely worth a stop. We came home to the rugged beauty of Chilmark to spend time relaxing in our lovely, comfortable cottage. That was always the best part of my day.
We stayed at this lovely cottage for a week of vacation with our two teenage daughters. The house is very comfortable and clean. Great views. The beach down the street was an added plus; you don't have to go far to relax on the shore of Menemsha Pond. Owner was a delight to deal with and readily available for any questions/concerns. We hope to return next summer!
My family and I had a memorable time in Chillmark, Martha's Vineyard at the Cohens "Moore House". A perfectly appointed summer cottage in an exceptionally beautiful and private location overlooking Menemsha Pond
Picturesque, comfortable, updated and serene best describes this pretty home with a brand new kitchen thoroughly outfitted which was enjoyable to use.
All the rooms were very clean and had nice quality details which added to the comfort of our stay, between the ocean air and very comfortable beds --best sleep I have had in a long while! We especially loved spending early mornings in our PJs on the wrap around deck which you can access from most rooms of the house which have large glass sliding doors overlooking the scenery, or relaxing while watching the sun set from the private sandy beach which was at the end of the road. Our children would also walk or ride their bikes to it daily.
We treasured the secluded quality of this Up-island area, a quick ride to the nearby Chillmarket or Homemade Chocolate Shop provided most of our necessities, there were larger markets on the Island as well. We found that the Up-island area has so much natural beauty, enjoyed visiting beautiful Quinnah with its spectacular cliffs and lighthouse and learning about the Wampanoag Native Americans which originally inhabited the island, and also hiked and swam at the secluded Great Rock Bight Preserve which was nearby as well. Our family also participated in one of the regularly offered historical tours given on the island--an interesting Kayak Nature tour which was informative and lots of fun for everyone. Also enjoyed the many scenic biking trails and great variety of excellent restaurants and local farm stands.
Mara and Dan Cohen owners of the home, were a delight to deal with, I appreciated their desire to make sure we had everything that we needed, they were very caring and provided extra details that made it easier to get settled in.
We truly look forward to our next opportunity to visit this absolutely heavenly place!
