About Renee Scandalis
For those of us that are drawn to the water and the beach, we have to return often to feel whole. Originally from San Francisco, CA I grew up going to the beach almost daily. I attended UC Santa Barbara and again, went to the beach almost daily. Then I moved to the Russian River in Northern California...same story. In 2005 I relocated to Texas and now live in Little Elm on the shore of Lake Lewisville. I am very fortunate to live on the water and the lake is beautiful, but still the ocean calls! I taught French and Spanish in CA but recreated myself when I moved to TX. I now assist people in buying and selling homes and land, primarily lakefront. I have two wonderful children that are yin and yang. Jacob, my serious 14 year old, plays the bassoon and is a voracious reader. Dex, my silly 9 year old, loves to play electric guitar and is craftier than McGyver.

Why Renee Scandalis chose South Padre Island
I have a serious case of wanderlust and have always traveled extensively. Some places I go to once, others many times, however when I hit the beach at South Padre for the first time just three short years ago I immediately felt at home. I found a way to go 4 times that year and the search for the perfect property was on. La Internacional is the perfect locale in my opinion. It is the closest property to the Gulf so the views are the best. Wanna Wanna is just next door and is a great laid back waterfront open air bar & grill. They have live music on the weekends and mellow tunes with a good sound system otherwise. Also in walking distance is the Laguna Madre Yoga and Meditation Center, where you can take not only Yoga, but Zumba, Pilates, Tango, & Hula. They have massage services, too! Many restaurants are also within walking distance, including Parrot Eyes, which I adore not just because the food is wonderful but also because there are always pelicans hanging out waiting for the fishermen to give them a treat. While it's a bit of a jaunt, I also walk up to Turtle Inc. It takes me about 10-15 min. What else do I have to do? I will jump on the Wave (see below) if I'm feeling lazy. It's really not to be missed. Learn about the Sea Turtles and get to see them up close. If you get there close to opening, they will even let you 'feed' one. Dolphin watching is also good on the island and the pod that lives here likes to play with the boats so they are easy to see. I could go on and on, but really, being on the island just feels good!
What makes this Condo unique
When I come to the island, I typically fly. The shuttle from Brownsville is FREE. Yes, that is not a typo. It is Free. The Wave is free public transportation on the island and runs up and down the island. If you are not at a bus stop, no worries. Flag them down, they will stop. It doesn't get more laid back then that. If It goes to Port Isabel too, which you shouldn't miss while you're here. The pirate boat is a blast, the shopping quaint, the farmers market, yummy!

Other than a mix up with the arrival I throughly enjoyed my stay. The condo is in a great location and it was perfect for the 6 of us. It’s small but well laid out to make it comfortable.
This 1 bedroom condo was perfect! We had an amazing view of the beach. Definitely will return.
SPI Internacional Condo
It was a very pleasant and relaxing stay. The condo was very clean and in an excellent location with a beautiful view of the ocean!
Yearly fun & sun with the grandchildren
Return every year as my two children like to have the cousins bond at the beach boogie boarding & doing fun stuff on SPI. They grew up in Brownsville & like returning on Father’s Day or my birthday for family vacations. This condo I thought I’d give a go & was not disappointed. It’s perfect for family with two -four kids. The beach area is clean, you can rent umbrellas, right next door to Wannawanna bar & grill, close to Blackbeards (I always order the stuffed jalapeño). Those who come down in 4x4 vehicles , my three younger grandchildren like me to take them north of last entrance into the beach & have a bonfire in the evening so they can roast marshmallows & learn about the stars & maybe catch a meteor shower.
Tired after a long day of fun & sun, check out the water fall hot water pool to massage your shoulders & neck.
All in all I found the place I’ll be returning next year & the next.
Closest I’ve ever stayed to the water- literally steps away!
Small and Deceiving
To all of those groups who are more than 2 people, this place is too small for you. My boyfriend and I went there for a short vacation and it was pretty cozy with just the two of us. Also, be warned that the dishes are a mess and do not look very clean at all (I had picture that I haven't been able to upload here), its messy and we were cutting our proteins with a bread knife due to lack of the proper utensils like a regular knife. Honestly, we had asked, very politely, if we could get refunded for the rest of our trip after the first night because we saw bugs and we were just not very comfortable in the place (ended up going to Walmart for new bed sheets) and we wanted to enjoy our short vacation. The renter pretty much told us hell no in reply and even tried to guilt us that she "cut her vacation short for us", even though I had made the reservation at least a few weeks before-hand. All in all, we found the pictures to be deceiving in size, the dishes and utensils provided were messy and seemed dirty (we washed everything before using it) and we were just not comfortable. If you are looking for a nice place, especially if there are more than just 2 of you, go elsewhere. The only reason this place got 2 stars was because of its proximity to the beach.
