About the property

A 3 Bedroom, 2 Bath Home with on-site Parking and Fenced in Backyard

Located in a lovely area of Niagara Falls, this 3 bedroom, 2 bath house is located only 3.3 miles from Niagara Falls State Park.

The master bedroom with attached bath is located on the first floor and has a queen bed. The other two bedrooms are located on the second floor. One of the rooms has a queen bed with a small sitting room attached that has a daybed for an extra guest. The other bedroom has a double bed. The other full bathroom is on the second floor.

On the first floor in addition to the master bedroom, is the kitchen, living room and dining room, and back hallway that leads to a screened in porch and the back yard.

The house is in the Deveaux area of Niagara Falls, a beautiful residential neighborhood, situated near Niagara University. The house is a 10-minute walk to the Whirlpool and Devil’s Hole State Parks and a 10 min. drive or 20 min. bike ride along the Gorge to the Niagara Falls State Park. Lewiston is also a short drive up the parkway and has many cute shops and nice restaurants.

The house is most easily accessed by car but the NFTA buses do run along Lewiston Road which is on the corner and goes to either Lewiston or to Niagara Falls.

The house has wi-fi throughout. There is a SmartTV and DVD player in the master bedroom, but there is no cable (we do have an interior antenna for broadcast channels). There is a driveway for you to use to park your vehicle. Pets will be considered.

About Carroll Reetz

We are avid travelers and running this guesthouse allows us some freedom in the off season to do just that. Carroll spent most of her career in Human Resources but gave it all up (darn) several years ago to open a hostel in Niagara Falls- leaving the wonderful California weather behind but gaining a wonderful husband. Andre is from Germany and we found each other here! We have since expanded from the hostel and added a couple vacation rentals to our endeavors. We think they are a great alternative to a sterile hostel - more like home away from home. We love hosting visitors from all over the world and introducing them to not only the beauty of Niagara Falls but the uniqueness and history that surrounds us.

Carroll Reetz purchased this house in 2012

Why Carroll Reetz chose Greater Niagara

The Whirlpool Cottage is in the nicest area of Niagara Falls where visitors can feel relaxed and secure in their home away from home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

It was really nice to stay here. The canape is lovely and the location is perfect for the visit to the Falls. We would love to spend here more time. Thank you.

In a quiet, nice and safe neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

We came to enjoy the Falls both in U.S. And Canada. Although we were to far away to walk, we drove and were able to find great parking very close to the Falls for three dollars a day. After lots of walking, coming back to a comfortable home was a wonderful way to relax. Our 2 pups were very happy to see us come back and truly enjoyed the fenced in back yard!

The one surprise is that there is "no vaping" in the house. So, vapers beware.

Whirlpool Cottage

  • 4 of 5

We had a delightful time staying at the cottage! The location was perfect for sightseeing in The Falls. Some of our family hiked Devil's Hole several times...within walking distance. We had easy access heading to Toronto for a day and enjoyed Lewiston, NY as well as Buffalo.

The house was comfortable for our family of five. Our eight year old granddaughter especially liked the upstairs bedrooms! Although we did not do a lot of cooking , the kitchen was well equipped with anything needed. The house was easily accessed without having to use a key...just punch in a code. Nice back yard.

Updated upstairs bathroom a plus

  • 3 of 5

The homeowners were very nice and helpful. I also liked that there was a dishwasher in the kitchen and the upstairs bathroom has been updated. I have to say I was a little disappointed in the lack of updates throughout the rest of the property though. Everything seems to be very old and mismatched. Some of the dishes could stand to be replaced as well, (kitchen scissors for sure). The dish towels in the kitchen also need to be replaced. There were a few minor issues that seemed to be overlooked, including the back porch Christmas lights. It was a nice touch, I just wished they all had worked. I feel like the little things are important too. I was also bummed that anytime the hair dryer was used, all AC units had to be turned off to avoid any blown fuses, which was a little inconvenient. I was also not a fan of the lack of curtains in the living area downstairs. The town of Niagara is about 2-3 miles from the home and it's quite run down. That was a little concerning to me, and I would have preferred a little more privacy and security that the curtains could have provided. The home has a lot of potential and could be very nice. I just think it needs a little more attention, especially for the amount of money one spends. The neighborhood is pretty quiet which is a plus. Overall I would recommend this property once a few areas have been re-evaluated.

Owner's Response: We appreciate you letting us know of issues you had so we can remedy any problems promptly. Our house is 100 years old - it is not modern which one can see in the pictures. We have purposely collected pieces of furniture that are not matchy-matchy but rather represent the different eras of this house's life. Of course, this is not to everyone's taste. We will take a look at the kitchen dish and utensil situation. Sometimes things get broken or go missing during the season. We will also check the lights on the porch - it is true, we don't always get a chance to check those lights between guests so we appreciate you letting us know they weren't working. The curtain situation you mentioned has me stumped because there are curtains in the downstairs living area - in front of the dining room bay window and in front of the living room window. You just needed to pull them together to close them. The downtown area of the City of Niagara Falls is about 2-3 miles away and is not what most people expect - it is a rust belt city with rust belt city issues. This house is not downtown but is in an area called Deveaux which is a lovely residential area bordering Niagara University and Whirlpool State Park. We do our utmost to provide a clean, comfortable, and homey accommodation that can sleep 7 for less than price of a mediocre hotel room in the summer.
