New Smyrna Beach is the second oldest town in Florida and what many recall as "the old Florida of yesterday". Quaint shops on historic Flagler Ave and friendly folks are what New Smyrna is all about. We are only 15 miles south of Daytona, and 55 miles east of Orlando. You can enjoy everything from Central Florida's amusement parks, Kennedy Space Center, to relaxing on what some consider "the best beach in the world."

We visited New Smyrna Beach with our two young children for the first time in 2011. Three years and four trips later we decided to purchase property in this great beach town. After an extensive search we decided that the Ocean Club at Turtle Mound was exactly what we were looking for. It is a quiet, family friendly complex with a view second to none. There is a park across the street where our children enjoy playing and seeing the manatee and dolphins. We are looking forward to many more family memories and the chance to share this wonderful place with others.

The Great Ocean Team
We have stayed in this building two times before and are planning to be here again in 2017. It is a drive from the main hub of activity but that is why we choose this location, we are able to enjoy very little traffic on the roads and the beach.
The beach in front is peaceful and the state park at the end of the road is fun to explore.
This condo is well situated with a beautiful view of the ocean and easy access to the beach. Beautiful beach areas with lifeguard stand right there in front. The balcony was great to sit on in the early morning to watch the sunrise above the beach or in the evening to watch things wind down. The condo itself was clean, well decorated, and comfortable. My family enjoyed their time there and the condo helped make it a special trip. And Kennedy Space Center is about an hour or so down the road and worth a drive for a break from the beach. The condo also has washer/dryer and well stock kitchen equipment, which were all super convenient to use. The team at Ocean Condos are also super nice and accommodating.
We recently stayed in this unit and it was an awesome condo. It was clean, bright, quiet, and had all the beach extras - towels, chairs, cooler, toys, kite, boogie boards. Plenty of room for our family of five. However, it would have been nice to know that there are 48! stairs to reach the condo. You might be thinking that's not so bad and it wouldn't have been if you only had to go up and down a few times, but imagine bringing luggage, groceries, beach stuff, and kids up and down several times a day for a week. It gets old really fast. Another negative is the location, it is waaaaaaay down the beach past all conveniences like restaurants, stores, etc. Again, if you are looking for quiet and don't mind having to drive everywhere then it won't be a problem. I would rather walk to grab ice cream or stroll the local shops but you have to drive 6+ miles. That makes it annoying because instead of a quick trip to grab a snack you're thinking what else do I need to bring (for 3 kids) so if we see something else we want to do we don't have to run all the way back to grab such and such. The final drawback is the beach quality. Yes, it's beautiful but the sand was the worst of any Florida beach we've visited. There was a thin layer of sand covering crushed shell. Not soft and luxurious like you want. We took a drive to Daytona Beach and the kids were in awe of the soft sand there. Little did we know but discovered on the day before we left that the sand quality at NSB greatly improves if you head back into town (6+ miles again) and hit the driving part of the beach. So, if you don't have a problem driving everywhere, don't mind the stairs, and don't care about the sand then this is the place
for you. I wish I could move the condo to a different location because the condo itself was fantastic. We had no problems with the condo or managing company. Wish I could say we'd be back but the drawbacks mean we'll be going somewhere else next time. Hope this is helpful to others planning a family beach vacation.
Great location by the quiet, no-drive part of the beach and a mile from Canaveral National Seashore. View was terrific with the ever-changing ocean always right there. Lots of light in living areas. Can catch the sunset either from the bedrooms or across the street in Bethune Park. Condo was clean, comfortable, and well-stocked with cookware, appliances, cleaning supplies and even spices and condiments. The team at Great Ocean Condos were responsive, helpful, friendly and concerned with great follow through. Special thanks to Jessica. Only drawbacks were neighbors' constantly barking dogs (not much to be done about that), and not being able to keep doors and windows open because of the salt air. Wish I'd known about that in advance.
New Smyrna Beach is an enjoyable town with many great places to explore, and good restaurants. JB's Fish Camp just down the road is fun place to eat with good fish dinners. We rented kayaks there for a pleasant couple of hours on the lagoon. Riverview Grill Sunset menu was a bargain and pleasant to eat outside with...a river view and sunset! Heath's Natural Foods has tasty soups and hot dishes to eat there or take home. Went to see a number of first run movies at the close-by Epic Theater, and also explored the laid back Canal Street and Flagler Street areas. Condo was a great choice for first time in NSB. Thanks for sharing your place!
About New Smyrna Beach
Located on Florida’s east central coast, New Smyrna Beach is a quiet seaside retreat at the southern mouth of Ponce de Leon Inlet. It is a small, historic city, and yet offers 13.2 miles of beach to enjoy. At only 55 miles northeast of Orlando, it serves as a favorite get-a-way destination for many Central Florida residents and has garnered significant notoriety as a surfing destination, often hosting American Surfing Professionals’ competitions. Surfers can bring their own equipment or rent from the numerous surf shops along the beach. New Smyrna Beach is the second oldest town in Florida and what many call “the old Florida of yesterday.” Quaint shops on historic Flagler Avenue and friendly folks are what New Smyrna Beach is all about. Through the years, the City of New Smyrna Beach has maintained tight controls on growth, resulting in a limited number of low-rise condominiums being constructed. The city has also held strict parameters on beach traffic which, in addition to protecting beach goers, simultaneously protects nesting sea turtles. It is a nesting ground for loggerhead sea turtles, and Florida’s loggerhead population is the largest in the nation.

The complex of buildings houses art exhibitions, performances, and is home to an artist-in-residence program. There are several art galleries in the downtown New Smyrna Beach area, such as Florida Galleria and TaDa Gallery which showcase works of local artists. The city is home to the Black Heritage Museum which has a collection of artifacts that date back to the 1920s.
