Trickledown is situated on Big Creek close to Highlands, NC. There is a King bedroom and bath with a large shower upstairs next to a large sitting room with a library and tv. Downstairs there is a queen bedroom and bath with a jacuzzi tub. The large gathering area has a botanical and biographical library and tv, fireplace and dining area. The kitchen has all amenities including a coffee/bar 'nook'. All across the back is a long screen porch and Big Creek sounds. There is a sitting area with a wicker sofa and rocking chairs on one side and a dining area on the other. Easy access to the kiln dried wood pile and the outdoor grille. The path to the creek features an iris garden. Other areas outside have 'special' garden areas like a moss garden, meditation garden, grandchildren's garden, succulent garden, 'gnome' path.
We live in Atlanta, GA about 2.5 hours from Highlands. We love the Highlands atmosphere and plan to spend more time here.
Jane Black purchased this cottage in 2007
My grandparents built a vacation home in Highlands in 1935. I visited during the summer while growing up and the area still feels like 'home'. The sound of the creek is what drew us to this current property.
The weather is delightful all summer and not severe very often during the winter. Gardening is easily successful because of the weather.
This was at least our 3rd visit to Trickledown, and we had as incredible a time as before....The 3 days passed rapidly, but yet the resultant relaxation made us feel as if we had been away for a week. It is especially wonderful to sit on the screened in porch in late afternoon, listening to the rushing water of Big Creek in the ravine below, while reading my Kindle and having a glass of wine.......it truly defines "relaxation"!
Jane Black should be commended on how welcoming the decor is, leaving no detail overlooked. We shall return next Fall for a repeat performance and another terrific getaway!
This was our first visit to Highlands, which is heaven on earth gorgeous. We chose Trickledown based on photos and other guest reviews. It exceeded our expectations! When we opened the door, we were greeted with fresh flowers, a hand written note from Jane and soothing background music from the Bose stereo. The owner's loving attention to detail was evident throughout: beautifully decorated with antiques , fine linens, special soaps, cozy chairs and throws. The kitchen had anything you could possibly need: great knives, All Clad cookware and Woodlands Spode china. Our favorite spot was the screened porch overlooking the soothing, rushing waters in Big Creek below. Enjoyed it for coffee in the mornings and cocktails by lamplight in the evenings. The first night my husband was so happy sitting out there, he did not want to go to bed!
I have now stayed at Trickledown three times in the past two years. I would not consider staying anywhere else in Highlands. I look forward to staying there many more times in the years to come. Thank you Jane!
My wife and I have stayed at Trickledown regularly over the last three years. This destination never grows old. Jane's attention to detail is amazing, not only does this property have superb landscaping and interior design, but it has a completely furnished kitchen, fresh pressed fine bed linens, everything to make you feel at home. The screened porch overlooking Big Creek is absolutely wonderful. Trickledown is a wonderful destination in Highlands and surpasses a five star hotel. We always hate to leave and can't wait to come back (which we will next month and the month after).
Trickledown is so well-named; the moment you get out of your car you are struck by the soothing sound of the rolling water below. Inside, Jane has created a haven of comfort...beautiful furnishings, linens and China...exquisite Native American prints, and a virtual library of books. As gardeners, both my husband and myself enjoyed looking through over a hundred books on various plants from irises to shrubs to ferns! Sitting on the delightful back porch, with
One of Jane's comfy throws on your shoulders while perusing these books was a special pleasure! We have traveled frequently in our lives....and this is now one of our favorite destinations!
We had such a lovely time! My Grandmother and I spent a few days at Trickledown and visiting Highlands... it was a
very special time for both of us, and Jane (the owner) has gone above and beyond in providing such a wonderful home
and environment to have such a great experience in. Also very close to downtown. Highly recommend!
