We restored the vacation home we had always hoped to find to rent, but couldn't, in the countryside we love. Although we live and work now in the United States, we lived in Europe for several years and wanted a home to return to and enjoy. Our house was finished and appointed to be a home - not a rental. We know you will love it as much as we do!
Eli Lehmann purchased this villa in 2000
We bought this house because of the stunning beauty of the area - the Crete Senese - and its proximity to so many gorgeous, ancient hill towns and their world class wines and restaurants: Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza, Monteriggioni, and many others. Buonconvento, down the mountain from us, past the historic Abbazia di Monte Oliveto, is a charming center for eating and shopping.
Our house is ideal for refined people who are looking for a place away from the crowds - a place of beauty and tranquility to relax with family and friends. It is a perfect place from which to bike through amazing wine country and forests of the Tuscan hills, taking a different direction each day. In the afternoons, you can bask by our beautiful pool and watch the sun set over the pool and hills, bathing the evening in gorgeous red light. At night, millions of stars, unavailable to most city dwellers, light the sky and one's imagination!
Things to know:
There are 2 small attached apartment units located on this hilltop setting with us. They are typically occupied by their lovely owners during June and July. There are separate entrances, dining areas, terraces, gardens, etc. There are thick stone walls between. The pool is common to all. During June and July there is a policy for not children under the age of 10.
i cannot imagine a place more perfectly suited for making our tuscan dreams come true.
everything about the house and the property was beyond our wildest expectations
we cooked wonderful meals every night, we were well prepared by your excellent advice regarding shopping.
we went to the coop in buon convento, managed to find the butcher and the baker. kind of happened upon the coop in sinalunga on our way back from siena or deruta.
the day we arrived, my mother in law went in the pool to repair her aching limbs from our stint in rome. it was the last warm summery day until Wednesday. Sunday we stayed around the house resting and planning, the weather came in, clouds and wind and rain, we watched from the shelter of the terrace, eating grapes, and taking photos.
Monday we drove to sienna, we loved it.
we went to deruta on Tuesday where i found the maker of my favorite maioliche ceramiche. i bought his pieces 10 years ago in ravello, and was thrilled to locate the source. i bought some incredible pieces to sell in my shop. kelly had suggested degrazie but the pieces were too serious and expensive. we found rolando nulli in town who drove us out to his cousin who ships to the states....
Wednesday was my mother in laws 81 birthday...tom and erin went horse back riding at piave de salte and we had another lovely laid back day around the pool and the kitchen
Thursday we did florence...too big for mom.
Friday we went to mount oliveti and montelcino. a perfect pace for all of us.
i have the key which i will mail back when you send me your address.
kelly had told me his place was rented for that week but no one showed up. we were thrilled to have the house to ourselves.
the driving was a challenge, i made sure we were home before dark and got pretty good at those scarey switch back roads and blind turns....i figured out i had to take the driveway hill in first.
i have some very special friends who live in baltimore in the inner harbor....i went to italy with them ten years ago. if you would like, maybe we can get together for some wine and conversation the next time i visit them.
thank you so much for sharing your house. we will all remember it for the rest of our lives.
with gratitude and affection
We loved staying at Collebianco - and would love to return. The biking was great (we had road bikes delivered from Sienna), the countryside is stunning and the house and annex are comfortable and well stocked. We didn't realize when we booked that there are two other rental units in the same "house" - there was a couple there for two nights, but the rest of the time it was all ours. Worked well and even with other people would be fine - but good to know in advance. There is a LOT to see and do in the area - and easy to take the train to Sienna and Florence from Asciano.
Thanks for helping us have a fantastic retreat and vacation!

We spent a week here with two teenage boys and my parents who are octogenarians! Which the layout lends itself to superbly. Had an amazing time. Very much a home from home. Great kitchen with everything you could need
Stunning scenery. Great recommendations in the guests information pack.
Lovely terraces where one can escape the heat. Great shared pool, with stunning vistas.
Beds were extremely comfortable.
Montepulciano is not to be missed, and the Abbey also.
Just fantastic. Happy memories.
8 friends from Australia gathered at Collebianco recently at the culmination of our various European holidays. It proved to be a fantastic last week as we were able to explore the many delights of the spectacular surrounding hilltop towns during the day and then return to the relaxing 'sanctuary' of our Villa (often with a lovely bottle of the local red and antipasto in hand). The Villa itself is brilliantly fitted out with all the mod cons while maintaining a lovely rustic feel and even though there were eight of us staying at no time did I feel 'crowded out' - it was all very comfortable. Finally, a big heads up for Eli and the great line of communication throughout the process - any questions were answered quickly and nothing was too much trouble. A lovely time was had by all - thank you Eli.
I can't say enough about our too short of a stay at Colle Bianco! My sister had always dreamed of staying in a villa in Tuscany and she was finally able to live out that dream. We were joined by my best friend and her mother. We were all able to have our own rooms (my sister stayed in the Annex). The pictures give a very accurate portrayal of the property. The kitchen had everything we need (although a bit different that us Yanks were used to, but super easy to figure out). The outdoor space was wonderful with just amazing views you'll never get sick of. The Annex was a nice big room with a small bathroom, but the wifi is sporadic in the room and if someone goes into the laundry, you'll hear it.
The caretaker, Eli, was very communicative through the whole process, which I appreciated. We had some small technical issues and Eli jumped right on it...responding very quickly to my emails (these things were fixed for good right after we left). He gave us very detailed notes and we wanted for nothing (we followed one of his dining recommendations and it was one of the best meals we had all trip).
There are 2 other units on the property and one was occupied while we were there but they were nothing but nice, very helpful and kind people.
I recommend walking around the area a bit. There's a great dog down the road who will follow you home (don't worry, he knows how to get back to his own home!). There's also a cat that likes to hang around sometimes (I think he knew there were "cat people" visiting!). They both became our mascots (we're all animal lovers).
We would definitely recommend Colle Bianco. It's a relaxing and wonderful place to just hang out or as a home base to visit the area.
Our stay at Colle Bianco was great! Perfect location for us! We enjoyed every minute. Our kids (6, 8,9, 10) loved the pool and the house. The view is awesome. Everything you need is there, except a TV, which we did not really miss. The pictures displayed are accurate. The owner was very helpful and provided very detailed and helpful information about driving directions, restaurants, sightseeing. We would definitely recommend the house to our friends and relatives.
You directly feel 'at home' when you reach the tremendous location. the view is amazing, the silence is overwhelming. The villa is very comfortably because of the homely decor.
It is a perfect location on one of the best spots in Tuscany
The well maintained roads and hilly terrain of this area are ideal for cyclists.
