Amazing views, relaxing locale, rustic smaller cabin
Our extended family of eight enjoyed a very nice week at Sea Shore Cabins over the July 4 holiday. The hot tub, nearby tennis courts, and adjacent Indian trail to Boothbay Harbor were big hits. We occupied both houses and found the larger one to be nicely updated and well equipped, except for the curious absence of lobster crackers/picks and a remote for the DVD/Blu-ray player, which threw a wrench in our movie night.
Did I mention the hot tub? It was new and clean and fabulous. Unfortunately for us, the in-ground pool was in the midst of renovations and thus unusable, but the owners and managers bent over backwards to compensate us for that and were super-responsive throughout.
The smaller, lower cabin has yet to be fully renovated, so is a much more rustic experience with some windows that don’t open, some doors that don’t close, a few leaky screens that admit mosquitoes, exposed plumbing, and other roughness typical of a 1950s-vintage summer cabin. On the plus side, the laundry and dishwasher appliances are newer and work well. The two bunk rooms in this smaller cabin are tight and really suitable only for kids; the two upstairs bedrooms are of normal size, though the clawfoot-tub shower they share is so small that we hardly used it. The TVs in both houses are newer and nicer than shown in the photos, and the shared WiFi worked well, with speeds around 20 Mbps, more than sufficient for Netflix and the like. We really enjoyed the private dock, the enclosed and open decks with terrific views of the bay, and the updated kitchen and expansive living/dining room in the big house. It’s just a 10-minute drive to Boothbay Harbor pier (or a 45-minute hike by trail) and not much more to Ocean Point, so close enough to enjoy the activities but far enough to feel away from it all.
Thank you William for your feedback! We are so glad you enjoyed the hot tub and dock. The hot tub is usually reserved for the owners, but we hoped it would help make up for the pool renovation. We checked the kitchen and found the elusive lobster crackers/pics. We have placed those in a more central location. We are sorry to hear that you could not find the remote. We wish you had called us about that. The pool is ready for Summer 2020 and many of the windows in the lower cabin have been replaced and screens fixed. Many more improvements are happening as well. We would love to offer you a special rate to come back and see us to get the full Sea Shore Cabins experience!
