Overview

About the property

4 bed, 2 bath house in quiet village with lots of nearby outdoor activities

This 19th century stone house of about 180 sq. meters was built for the village priests. It has 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs. Downstairs are a large living room with a separate kitchen and dining area, which open onto a huge terrace. The terrace has its own dining table and chairs, plus a BBQ. The house has all the usual appliances: wifi, 2 TVs, DVD player with an assortment of DVDs, dishwasher, microwave and regular oven, cooktop, combo washer/dryer, tea kettle, coffee maker, toaster.... Linens are provided. High chair on request. There is offstreet parking for up to three cars.

The house is within easy walking distance of a bakery and two restaurants. A supermarket, more restaurants, etc., can be found in Luçon, some 10 km away. It is about 30 minutes to the beach and Puy du Fou. Also nearby are a water park and adventure parks. It is at the start of several marked hiking and biking trails. The neighborhood is quiet and there is no neighbor across the street. The landscaped garden has a pond and a boules court. If you are interested in the Tour de France, the house sits between routes for both the first and second days; see the official Tour maps for details. In short, it is a good base for your Vendee vacation.

About Lynn Sullivan

I'm a retired architect who was drawn to the beauty of Vendee.

Lynn Sullivan purchased this house in 2014

Why Lynn Sullivan chose Saint-Cyr-en-Talmondais

I like historic buildings. This one has a lot of character and an interesting story. In the dining room you will find photos of the village, including the house, from the early 20th century. I like the quiet, though La Rochelle is close enough that I can enjoy a city, if I want that. Vendee has been home to the politician Clemenceau, to the conductor William Christie and many others who have shaped and who continue to shape the culture here.

What makes this house unique

The house is private and you can get to, say, the Indian Village adventure park, the O'Gliss water park or the beach within half an hour. The Chateau des Aventuriers is great for smaller kids. There is a boules court in the garden and a free, well-maintained tennis court at the end of the street. It is in the center of hiking and biking trails. A canoe rental business is in the next village. Cultural attractions abound. You can walk to a fine restaurant with its chateau and arboretum. Historic gardens, abbeys, houses, museums, wineries that are routinely open for tastings are all nearby. La Rochelle is about an hour away and supermarkets and all are in Luçon, less than 10 km from the house.

Vendee has many restored historic properties. It is developing its eco-tourism attractions. Nearby by are the O'Gliss water park, Indian Village adventure park for all ages, Chateau des Aventuriers for kids, beaches, Puy du Fou and plenty more. If you are coming for the Tour de France, you will find that it runs not far north and not far south on the first and second days. There is a little worker cafe three minutes away, a nice restaurant five minutes away. Supermarkets and the local covered market are in Luçon, about 10 km away. It's nice there, close enough to the beach but out of the beach traffic.
