I left the heat in Florida to come to the Mountains to enjoy the beautiful cool air and magnificent views.
We are a few minutes from Wolf Ridge Ski Resort, which the kids absolutely love as I did when I was younger.
margaret steiger purchased this cabin in 2006
it is new, with fireplace in the living room, it has it all. I did not just buy this property, I thought it was so beautiful I decided to build a nice log cabin here. and so I did.
I have an entrance on the lower level, then I have built an addition onto the driveway which will take you strait to the main floor, with out walking up any stairs, which is nice, especially when you are carrying luggage and groceries.
I love the cool summers and Love to ski in the winter, it is the place to be in the fall when the leaves change colors, and the flowers in the spring are lovely. A great getaway for my wife and children and all of my grandchildren
We rented this property to celebrate Christmas as a family, including my wife, kids, and parents.
It turned out to be a great choice!
The cabin is more spacious than it appears on the website. The basement has an entire bedroom, 2 bathrooms, and games and TVs, so my parents were able to treat it as a separate apartment when necessary, and my kids had fun playing pool and foosball.
Upstairs, we found everything we needed. The kitchen was reasonably stocked, the fireplace worked well, and there were plenty of beds, couches, etc.
There are multiple washer/dryers for laundry, an abundance of bathrooms, etc.
We particularly liked the huge dining room table. We had several meals all together and also worked on several puzzles, crafts, etc.
There are literally TVs in every room, so no shortage of entertainment.
As for the view, I'm sure it would have been great if the weather had cooperated. It was cloudy and rainy for our entire stay, so we didn't see much of anything besides clouds. But we were certainly high enough to imagine some great skylines.
One of my favorite finds was a 2-mile single-track trail that connects to the Appalachian trail. This just about 1/2 mile from the cabin.
A few considerations for potential guests:
Location - The cabin is at the top of a 2-mile stretch of very steep, narrow road. It ends at a VERY steep driveway up to the cabin. Having now been, I wouldn't even consider driving to this cabin in winter time without a 4-wheel drive vehicle. And in icey or snow conditions, I still might not try it. Even with good traction, the constant climbing pushed our poor loaded-down mini-van to the limit.
Also, the closest grocery store is almost 30 minutes away. So consider buying groceries on the way, or plan enough time after arrival.
Internet - The wifi was easy to connect to and worked well enough, but it was pretty slow and spotty compared to what most of us are used to. I wouldn't be able to work remotely from this location, for example.
Don't come for the pool table - It was fun for the kids, but needs to be resurfaced, balanced, and all the queues need to be repaired.
Directions - The owners provided specific directions for the last couple miles of the drive. We chose to rely on our GPS, which was a mistake. It took us on a very roundabout path through a lot of mud. Follow the directions provided :)
Overall, this property wasn't perfect but exceeded my expectations.
The cabin was cozy and very spacious. The views were amazing from every part of the house. Enjoyed spending the holidays there with the family. It was exactly what we wanted and more.
Wonderful experience staying in this cabin. Very spacious! Be careful on the winding roads. Would love to stay here in any season!
We loved our stay. The house is huge with all the necessary kitchen gadgets. Everyone had their own bathroom, there are so many areas for sitting and hanging out- and very spread out so the adults could hang out without waking up the kids. The property was easy to find and beautiful- the house is staggered on the mountainside, so you feel like there are no immediate neighbors. We hiked the nature trail just down from the house- it joins with the AT, though we didn't get that far with little kids in tow. Highly recommend, the fall colors were incredible. Extremely happy!
We (myself, 2 brothers and 2 sisters) took our 82 year old mother for a 2 night stay near Asheville. We toured The Biltmore Estate in Asheville. The accommodations were just what we needed and everything was neat, clean and everything was as stated and pictured on the description. We were very pleased with this house. The basement having a foosball and pool table was certainly a bonus. We would stay here again and we recommend this house to others.
Margaret Steiger, rental manager, was very prompt with E-mailing and easy to work with.
