Beautifully restored penthouse apartment on the fourth floor of a Parisian-style building with only 8 apartments. Fantastic location to see Buenos Aires. The apartment was restored over 9 months to reclaim the grand living at the beginning of the 1900s. No expense was spared to recreate the rich feeling with the imported wood while still modernizing the kitchen and bathrooms. Weekly maid service included. New pillows in July 2015.
Very high ceilings with ornate plaster work characterized by the wood detailing and original pinotea Norwegian wooden floors which create a warm atmosphere. There is an entrance hall, separate lounge/living and dining room, a master bedroom with a luxury queen size mattress and luxury bedding with a fully equipped ensuite bathroom complete with Jacuzzi bathtub and shower. Second bathroom 'loft-style' above the kitchen with a double bed and a half-bathroom. Designer kitchen with gas stove, dishwasher and refrigerator. Clothes washing machine as well and access to the rooftop clothes line. Living room has a Bose Wave stereo and cable TV. Wireless internet in the apartment. Mood lighting in every room. Maid service once a week. Air conditioned for summer and central heating (water forced radiators) in winter. There is an elevator (Parisien style wrought iron) so you don't have to walk up that many flights (unless you are working off all the great food in Buenos Aires).
I grew up in Canada and the US and fell in love with Buenos Aires and the Argentine culture so decided to put some permanent roots down in Buenos Aires. I come back at least twice a year to visit friends and to keep experiencing the ever-changing city. I made it my personal goal to visit every one of the 'notable cafes' of Buenos Aires - the ones that have been around at least a hundred years. One is on the same street as the apartment.
Dave Michayluk purchased this apartment in 2006
The apartment is half of the top floor of a hundred year old Parisian-style building. When I started looking for a place this one jumped out and definitely a very lucky find! After 9 months of restoration/renovation it is showing its full potential and I wish I could live here all year round.
This is the perfect location to visit Buenos Aires. Walking distance to Recoleta and the centre of Palermo, with restaurants and shopping at your door. Park Las Heras is two short blocks away and you can walk to the botanical gardens, the zoo or the Evita museum and there is an excellent hidden cafe for breakfast in the courtyard of another museum that is about 15 blocks away. So many hidden wonders and there is a continuously updated house guidebook that has my recommendations. I'll mail that in advance to help with your planning. Some of the restaurants (especially the closed door restaurants) are often fully booked in advance so it is good to do some planning. I wish I had two stomachs when I come to Buenos Aires.
We stayed Dave's apartment at the end of a very long trip through central and South America. It was the perfect place to both rest and recover, and to enjoy the excitement of Buenos Aires over the Christmas holiday. The apartment is very lovely and tastefully decorated. The bed in the master bedroom is super comfortable, and the kitchen is equipped with everything you would expect. We enjoyed the neighborhood and visited many of the local restaurants and shops during our stay.
Just home from 11 magical days in Buenos Aires. This apartment was perfect for our stay - gorgeous and comfortable and well supported by owner and manager. We were visiting our daughter who is studying there for the semester. The location of this apartment was great as on the Subte line and well served by bus routes as well. We also walked everywhere. Staying here makes you feel both pampered and also like a real local - loved it!
I stayed in this two bedroom apartment for three weeks. It is gorgeous and well situated in the Palermo district. It is a short, pleasant walk to many good restaurants, cafes, shopping, museums, and other attractions. The apartment is well-decorated, very comfortable, quiet, and spacious. There is also convenient access to two metro stops within two blocks or city buses for longer journeys.
This apartment was perfect for the three of us and plenty of room for cooking, dining, and lounging. The location was very safe and within walking distance to metro stops and some attractions. The property was well kept, clean, and the manager was available for questions or arranging airport transportation.
My wife and I stayed in this apartment for one week. We are retired expats form US now living in Ecuador. We found everything about the place exactly as described. If you want the old world charm and European feel, this is it. However, it has been tastefully remodeled so that all the conveniences you would want are here as well. The location is superb, one half block from Avenue Santa Fe, one block from Alto Palermo mall, large choice of restaurants, cafes, take outs are all in walking distance. The apartment is also right in the middle of the Palermo/Recoleta area where you are in the best neighborhoods but a close taxi ride to museums, the cemetery and downtown. We felt perfectly safe walking in the neighborhood day and night. Dave is great to deal with and responds quickly. Miguel, the young man who checks you in and can facilitate for you is very helpful and punctual. We will certainly stay here again when we return to Buenos Aires.
The photos show the place as it truly is. We were contacted by David a few weeks prior to our arrival to alert us that the building was working on the gas line so we would be without hot water and use of the stove. He offered us a total refund if we wanted to stay elsewhere but after scanning the web for other apartments we still found ourselves drawn to this one because of it's over all look. We were glad we did. We worked out a great compromise where we got a week's gym membership for our hot showers and Miguel got us a hot plate so we could still cook a little bit. The location was perfect. The subway stop was close by and the neighborhood had great places to eat and the local grocery stores were convenient. We ate breakfast every day in the apt and a few dinners there as well. I highly recommend a restaurant in the area by the name of Oviedo if you want some place nice to eat. The apartment over all was very comfortable. The bathrooms are pretty small but the other rooms(aside from the little loft space) are spacious and nicely decorated. We loved the high ceilings. My only complaint was that the pillows were so flat and uncomfortable. I would definitely suggest getting some better pillows. Also the railing on the stairs going around the elevator was dangerously loose. Safer to take the elevator! But for the price, we would definitely stay here again next time we come back to BA.
The apartment is close to a large grocery store as well as amazing delis, fruit markets, cheese shops and wine stores. There is a great Havana coffee shop very close as well as a hundred year old cafe and bar (Tolon) a block away that is open 24 hours. The best medialunas are two blocks away but there are competing bakeries and a home made pasta shop that will make your mouth water. Good thing there is a gym nearby in case you want to work out so you can enjoy more! Walking distance to everywhere with the benefit of taxis at your door and the subway a block away. This is the best location to see Buenos Aires.
