Originally from Chicago and the western suburbs we fell in love with the Galena area years ago as we drove through the area en route to Dubuque, Iowa. Eventually we bought this cottage that we have so much enjoyed and now would like to offer you the chance to fall in love with Galena and the beauty of JoDavies County
Richard purchased this house in 2008
A special little cottage-somewhat quaint, nestled within the settlement...trees, a seasonal view of Lake Galena, beautiful starry nights and the lull of Galena falls...hiking trails just down the road. A quiet retreat, tho minutes away from tourist hustle and bustle of historic Galena if desired.
House had everything we needed ,clean well equipped . Could see & hear Thunder bay falls from the deck was awesome .Our 2 dogs loved the paved walking path . CANT WAIT TO GO BACK!
It was a great experience the home was very neat and clean totally enjoyed our stay
My sisters and I visited the Galena area during its historic house tour weekend, and this house was just perfect place to stay! The house has all the comforts of home and very clean and well-maintained. The surrounding area was beautiful and you can even see a waterfall from the balcony. It is less than 10 minutes to town and not too far off the main highway. Even though we didn't do much cooking there, the house is well equipped if you wanted to. Also, they provide availability to use the Galena Territory facilities which is an added plus but we were so busy in town we never got a chance to try it out. The only downside of our visit had nothing to do with the house - it was with the shopping area of Galena. They do NOT have enough parking spaces and definitely not enough handicapped spots.
Would love to come back since we did not see everything we wanted to and would definitely stay at this house again.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very comfortable. Nice having Netflix. The owners club is a very nice extra. Comfortable beds. Very quiet. I highly recommend this home.
We have rented this home many times. Owners are very accommodating and responsive. We always look for this home first when we head to Galena.
Just wanted to thank Richard for his hospitality and sharing his home with us. Property exactly as described and having read reviews, I knew it was in close proximity to the other homes. It's a short drive to the Owner's Club (gorgeous and fun!) as well as into downtown Galena. We fell in love with Galena and will be back.
I'd only suggest that the doorway and back porch be swept up of cobwebs and bugs. I realize this home is in a wooded area but we didn't sit on the back porch to enjoy the view due to the closeness of the trees leaves covered in webs.
Nestled within 6800 acres of the Galena Territory our cottage provides the perfect backdrop from which to enjoy 19th century history and architecture, great local wineries and restaurants, arts and crafts and many eclectic shops found in Galena and the surrounding towns of Elizabeth, Hanover and Stockton.Within the territory you might enjoy Illinois' largest golf course, the Eagle Ridge Spa, the marina from which you could rent pontoons, the Shenandoah riding stables, outdoor and indoor swimming, a fitness center, and a game room featuring pool tables, ping pong, foosball, etc. Miles of trails for hikers and cyclists, and wonderful opportunities for birdwatching.
The town of Galena is home to art galleries, spas, wineries, irish music and the home of President Ulysses S Grant. More trails to bicycle or-perhaps canoeing or kayaking the Mississippi backwaters is more to your fancy. Come winter there are the skiing/snowboarding opportunities at Chestnut mountain or snowshoeing at the Galena Cellar Vineyard.
Downtown Dubuque is 40 minutes away--here one might enjoy various concerts and musical/cultural arts events, casinos, Mississippi riverboat rides, and the world's steepest trolley.
For lovers of nature-rolling hills close to the might Mississippi; for lovers of wine-the many award winning wineries; lovers of outdoor sports; lovers of history; or just lovers...you are welcome.
