Junior 1 Bedroom Apt / Sleeps 3
About Greg Sitzmann
We moved to DC together in 2005, the year we were married. It was going to be a short-term stay, and here we are 12 years later. We absolutely love our city.
Greg Sitzmann purchased this Apartment in 2012
Why Greg Sitzmann chose Shaw
The nice thing about the English basement apartment is that it's only a couple steps below ground. So it really feels more like a first-floor space. The ceilings are high. And the four tall windows let in plenty of natural light.
What makes this Apartment unique
Our neighborhood, Shaw, is also called Old City. It has a great neighborhood vibe. Subway stops are convenient. But if you like to walk, it's a beautiful city to see on foot.

Nice for the price
This apartment is exactly as described. It is small but a good size for two people. It was very clean and had all the essentials. You are told to bring your own shampoo and bath soap. The bed is comfortable and it is relatively quiet at night. The location is nice. It seems like. A nice neighborhood. We would stop by Colonial Coffee shop on our walk to the metro in the mornings to get a coffee and muffin then took an Uber back in the evenings which ran around $10.00-$11.00. There were plenty of places to eat within walking distance having a grocery store close by was a plus. Greg was great to respond when I messaged. The parking pass was $25.00. Since we drove the pass was well worth it. We parked our car and did not have to move our vehicle rest of the trip. I read some reviews about problems with the internet. It took me a few tries to connect but once we got connected there wasn’t any other issues.
Way beyond essentials
The apartment was perfect. It was very well lit and had way beyond the essentials, including washer/drier and coffee grinder. It was a very short walk to a 24-hour supermarket, multiple restaurants, and a bike-share dock. The owners received a package for us containing a very important item (laptop!) left at home and FedExed to us. The notebook in the apartment contained a list (with descriptions) of restaurants within walking distance, sorted by distance. This was a refreshing change from the usual notebook with a list of rules.
Parking is obtainable but not abundant. Be prepared to park distantly in certain windows of time or plan to arrive at a time when parking is more available. I highly recommend this VRBO and it is very convenient!
We had a wonderful time and would stay again! The apartment was perfectly appointed and a lovely place to come “home” to every evening! Just what we needed.
The space was exactly what we expected. It was close to the metro amd easy to navigate. The owner was responsive and helpful with accommodations we requested. Excellent stay!
Great place and location
A basement apartment that felt humid when we first arrived. After figuring out how to turn on the A/C (hint: point remote at unit and wait for the beep after making temperature adjustment) it felt great quickly. Good grocery store and restaurants within a 2 block area. We used the Mt Vernon Metro stop. It was a safe walk, just use street smarts. The side walkway entrance is a bit hidden, I was nervous about arriving back from sight seeing in the dark, but was happy that there were lots of street lights. Coffee maker and grinder, toaster, good quality sheets and towels. Washer was a great bonus. It is a washer/dryer combo unit like in RV’s. Yes it takes 4 hours for a smallish load. Run it when you are sight seeing for the day or at night and all is fine. Greg answered questions quickly. I will definitely stay here again given the opportunity.
We're located just 3 blocks from the Convention Center.
