About the property

4 Bedroom, 2.5 bathroom, Sleeps 9

Situated across the road from Torch Lake this house offers the perfect getaway with 2 public beach/sandbar accesses conveniently located less than a 3 minute walk down the road. This vacation home is just minutes away from downtown Alden (2.3 miles) and Elk Rapids (13 miles).

The house was renovated in the spring of 2013, and the upstairs rooms were added during the summer of 2014. The vacation home includes a full kitchen, with stove, oven, dishwasher, and microwave. Next to the kitchen is a dining area that seats up to 9 people. There is also a laundry room with washer and dryer. The master bedroom, at the back of the house, includes a King sized bed and television, there is a walk-in closet and master bathroom attached. A second bedroom offers a closet and a twin-over-full wooden bunk bed. The half bath is located across from the second bedroom. The living room, in the front of the house, gives you a view of the lake. Out the living room door there is a covered porch with lake and pond views. The upstairs offers two more bedrooms, one full bath and a kitchenette with compact fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The woods bedroom towards the back of the house has a queen size bed and a 42' smart TV. The lake view room with Torch Lake views offers a full bed and a cozy reading nook.

A charming pond with water lilies is located in front of the house. But perhaps the best part of the house is outback. There is a romantic fire pit with rustic log seating located out the backdoor. The fire pit is the perfect place for s'mores, camp songs, and ghost stories. A grill is provided for cookouts. The backyard leads right into the forest behind the house. The forest offers miles of trails to explore.

5 Star Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The house was exactly as described and has plenty of room for 8 people! Very comfortable and close to tourist destinations. The house had everything we needed. Across the street form Torch Lake with a decent view of the water. Well stocked grocery store and gas station nearby. We enjoyed the beach that's within a very short walking distance. Christian and Anja are fantastic to deal with They were responsive and organized. The refund for our security deposit was initiated in less than 24 hours of checking out. We highly recommend this place especially for the price and would definitely stay there again.

This is a very nice property for a family gathering. Plenty of offerings for everyone.

  • 4 of 5

Our weather was ok. The days that were not conducive to boating we visited Elk Rapids, Alden, Bellaire and Traverse City. Also, ping pong and pool are available. Cooking is easy with a fully equipped kitchen. BBQ grill and a nice size family table.

The owners are very nice and accommodating. This was our third time at this property and it is always spotless!

spacious and clean

  • 3 of 5

the sign on the front door is less than welcoming, really? I have to take off my shoes before entering the house? I just drove several hours, have a car to unpack and spent a fair amount of money to rent for 1 week, and the first thing I see is "take off your shoes" This continues in the house: notes in the bathrooms, a note on the grill that threatens to charge me $50.00 if I dont clean it! The instructions for leaving were also strange: leave 1 towel per guest, The last night was spent scrambling to have it in the order as required by the book. Suggestions: supply a pitcher for the kitchen, we like to make ice tea and sangria, had to run out to buy a pitcher, the couches need to be replaced (long past their prime) the pillows need to be replaced (long past being comfortable) decent tongs for the kitchen and grill, why is the grill in a dirt patch out back?? makes no sense, the garage was awesome for playing, but the mildew smell forced us to keep at least one garage door open. The house was clean and spacious, but it is the little things that count too. I understand there may have been previous tenants that left things in disarray, but don't punish future customers for others' mistakes, that is the inherent risk you take when you decide to rent a house.

Owner's Response: We appreciate your feedback as we strive to make it a pleasant stay for all of our guests. We are very sorry that you didn't feel comfortable with our house rules. We feel that the rules ensure that all of our future guests have the best experience possible. We take great pride in our home and were confused by the comment about the couches, as they were purchased new only two years ago. We were also unable to detect any mildew smell in the garage and have never had anyone mention this to us. Regarding the grill location, most guests seem to enjoy having it next to the fire pit/seating area in the wooded back yard, but any guest is welcome to move it. Thank you for your suggestion to add a pitcher to the kitchen, we added one right away! Again, we are very sorry that we were unable to meet all of your expectations.

Great spot for the whole family

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our time here with our whole family. We had a wide range of ages and the cottage had many things available from the game room/garage, to toys and games even for young children. We had plenty of space to spread out. The bedrooms all have a lot of space and the kitchenette on the second floor was very helpful.

The cottage is very well-stocked in the kitchen, has nice hiking trails right behind the house and is a very short walk to the sandbar, which was great for our kids. They could be in the water without us having to worry that they'd get into trouble in deeper water. We also enjoyed the fire pit in the back yard and sitting on the porch looking at the lake across the street.

We really had a great and relaxing time here and appreciate the owners' hospitality! We highly recommend this cottage for your stay at Torch Lake! We'd also recommend a trip into Alden and also Elk Rapids. Lots of cute shops/restaurants/etc. The beach in Elk Rapids was our favorite. It's not big, but has beautiful sand and just a gorgeous view of the bay.

Torch Lake (known as the 3rd most beautiful lake in the world) offers endless opportunities. Two public accesses are located a 2-3 minute walk down the road. With sandy bottom and shallow water extending hundreds of feet into the lake, Torch is the perfect place for kids to enjoy the water. Kids will love the endless sand and will never want to leave. The house is located 1.5 miles down the road from the famous Torch Lake Sandbar. The sandbar is extremely shallow (about 2-3 feet deep). The sandbar is a VERY popular spot to park your boat, swim, play water volleyball, and party with friends. With its crystal clear water, that rivals that of the Caribbean, Torch Lake is perfect for swimming, boating, waterskiing, jet skiing, tubing, windsurfing, and relaxing.

Up the lake the small town of Alden can be found (reachable by car or boat). Alden is a secret gem that offers little shops and restaurants all within walking distance. Alden also includes a playground with several tennis courts. Stroll down the street of Alden on a warm summer day and enjoy the live entertainment during the Alden Strolls. Don’t forget to grab some ice cream from Higgens Store (Voted Best Ice Cream Shop). The kids will love the GIANT Superman ice cream cones!

Grocery shopping is also conveniently located just 1 mile away. The Village Market carries everything one might desire on a trip including all the ingredients needed to make smores!

Drive (or boat) on over to Elk Rapids for Harbor Days (July31- August 3). Harbor Days was voted best small town festival by MyNorth Media. You can come and stroll down main street Elk Rapids, or be a bit more adventurous and try your hand at the Paddleboard World Championships held every year. Kids will love the carnival rides and cotton candy alike, and cherish these memories for years to come.

Traverse City is located 25 miles southwest of the house. Traverse City is home to the National Cherry Festival (June 28- July 6) which offers boatloads of entertainment. The festival includes activities from children and adults, and a finale firework.

There are three boat ramps within 3 miles of the house; making it a boater’s paradise. There are also several golf courses within the area. 2 public accesses are conveniently located less than a 3 minute walk down the road.
