About the property

Stroll To Willard Beach & Local Restaurants. Downtown Portland 5 Mins By Car.

Beautiful bungalow, lots of skylights, wide pine floors, open floor plan, big stone gas fireplace, Japanese garden, chef's kitchen, washer/ dryer, well stocked and cozy. Why stay at a hotel when you can walk to the beach from this adorable home on a quiet street, two walkable miles from downtown Portland? Pet friendly and easy to rent and access, this home offers the ideal jumping off spot for a perfect Maine vacation.

Everyone that walks through the door of this meticulously renovated bungalow falls in love with its charm. There's a hammock and porch swing to lounge in, BBQ, beautiful Japanese Garden and fenced in backyard. There are Skylites throughout the house and lots and lots of windows to throw open for that fresh Maine sea breeze. Home is within walking distance of Portland's best bakery, three local handmade ice cream shops, the area's most dog friendly beach and one of Portland's most popular restaurants. Bring your bikes, you'll be riding all over for the local eats!

Want to bring your baby? Not a problem! We've traveled with ours too and what a nightmare hauling all of that STUFF! We have a pack and play, high chair, toys, etc. Please be aware that the stairs are not baby-friendly and it's very important to know this before arrival (although we've never had any complaints or issues, I just like to be very clear about it).

Kitchen is fully stocked with every kitchen utensil a chef could want, including both a french press and a regular coffee maker, toaster, microwave, blender, pots for cooking lobster, cocktail bar area, crockpot, etc. If you are curious about something specific, just ask! Home has been thoughtfully furnished with a warm, stylish mix of antiques and more contemporary furniture. The artwork has been thoughtfully placed and the house is stocked with fresh, new bed linens and towels. Please let us know if you are curious about any particular details of the house.

About David

Portland's been home since the mid 1980's and we LOVE our little city! Extensive travel & previous career as a professional guide made me appreciate having a home base while traveling.

A base camp for daily exploration.

My wife's a professional artist & professor @ MECA. We have daughter Olivia and two faithful canine companions Arlo & Tilda.

When not working ~ we can be found playing in the outdoors - enjoying everything from simple walks on the beach , mountain biking, skiing/riding slopes of Sugarloaf or my latest obsession -paddle boarding. I'm passionate about the outdoors and all the adventures Maine offers!

Beautiful house with a lot of character and a gorgeous front porch and yard.

  • 5 of 5

Loved our stay! The house had everything we needed including games and books for our four year old. We loved having coffee on the porch in the morning and lunch and dinner on the back deck! Close to downtown Portland so it was very convenient for everything we wanted to do! There is even a playground within walking distance! David was a great host and easy to contact! Thank you for making our stay wonderful!

Clean, Comfortable and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

We (three adults) had a very enjoyable stay at David's Red Cottage in SoPo. The cottage has been thoughtfully renovated to maximize living space both indoors and out with lots of light, right-sized furnishings, and eclectic decor. The location is great - a short drive to attractions on the Cape (Portland Head Light, Two Lights State Park) and in downtown Portland. The beds are comfortable and the ceiling fans make sleeping easy. Parking is plentiful, enough for a family gathering and cookout using the gas grill on the back deck.

Perfect Getaway and Bungalow!

  • 5 of 5

My sweetie and I loved the little red bungalow. The attention to detail, cozy feel and romantic ambiance. We loved exploring the quiet neighborhoods of South Portland yet being close to Portland for delicious food. The red bungalow is a dreamy place to settle in and just be.

Loved it!!

  • 5 of 5

I absolutely loved the house, it was as cute in person as it was in the pictures. The proximity to downtown Portland was great, 10 mins at most. Nice safe neighborhood. I brought my dogs so we walked a lot and they had plenty of room. I would highly reccomend the little red bungalow to anyone visiting the area.

Truly home away from home

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough about how caring an owner Maggie is. She has thought of everything to make you comfortable. My rave spaces were stretching out on the sofa in front of the gas fireplace (an excellent cold weather substitute for lying in the hammock) and lying in bed in the morning in what felt like a tree house with skylights and windows looking out at trees in all directions. The kitchen has lots of windows and plenty of space. The location was ideal for getting to everything I needed. Really close to Portland, Willard Beach, great restaurants. Superb! Thank you.
