About Lars Godell
I'm a well-traveled, well-educated, wine-loving European with a Norwegian passport, with more than 21 years of telecom industry experience. After a University of Chicago MBA I have further nourished my curiosity by living in the diverse but wonderful cities of Amsterdam and Belgrade, as well as in my home town Oslo. I have the experience of owning or renting apartments in all these countries, triggering an appreciation of good quality and design. After more than 20 visits to Montalcino in less than the two years it took to complete the renovation and to make the apartment available for rental, I now enjoy the company of and invaluable help from some nice local friends in Montalcino. Both I and my very well-connected local network of friends are aware of the needs of quality-conscious international travelers. Valuable and constructive feedback from very satisfied guests collected during the first rental season (2014) has led to some apartment improvements and adjustments for the 2015 rental season.
Lars Godell purchased this Apartment in 2011
Why Lars Godell chose Montalcino
As a serious wine-lover and in love with Tuscany since my first visit in 2000, the choice of Montalcino was easy. The number one reason for ending up in Montalcino is the wonderful Brunello wine, and after a complete apartment renovation job since 2011 I have realized my old dream of having a local wine cellar (unfortunately, access to the wine cellar is not available as part of rentals; I can just help you with advice on where to get the best deals and advice on sampling and buying wine). The spectacular views from the roof terrace was the number one reason for choosing this particular apartment inside Montalcino. I have rented and stayed in nice places in the Tuscan countryside since 2000 but I chose to be inside the town walls of Montalcino also for some important convenience reasons: Being able to walk to the bakery and grocery store, and being able to walk home after a nice lunch or dinner with some great wine. There are no taxis in the Tuscan countryside or smaller towns.
What makes this Apartment unique
Relaxing on the terrace with a glass of wine, enjoying the unique view of the town, Crete Senesi, and Val d'Orcia. Walking home from a nice lunch or dinner without worrying driving under the influence. Fetching grocery and deli supplies in a minute.

Fantastic Apartment in a perect location.
An incredible experience staying in this absolutely lovely, charming and comfortable apartment in the heart of Montalcino, Tuscany. Everything needed is foot steps away from the Apartment, great restaurants, wine stores, markets and caffes. Apartment is new and updated with all the amenities of home plus spectacular views off the patio. A truly memorable experience. The owners manager locally in Montalcino was top shelf and a wealth of local knowledge. If we ever found our selves going back, hands down, this is where we would stay.
Perfect Tuscany Wine Country stay with friends
The property was amazing for our group of 6 (3 couples). Great finish, very clean with good facilities (great roof terrace with bbq and amazing views. Host was most helpful with lots of tips on where to wine and dine. Check-in was very easy and the local guide was most helpful.
Vacation to remember and return!
My family celebrated a big birthday in Montalcino in this lovely apartment. Well equipped to manage the intense heat, we found a place of cool calm. The views were spectacular from the top terrace. The bathrooms are modern. Be prepared to walk up many stairs. A nice glass of brunello as you gaze over the countryside makes it all worth it. The property manager is a gem and the owner is extremely informative of the local area. The location is perfect to dine in the surrounding gardens or shop. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We had an amazing stay at this apartment in Montalcino. The apartment if fully equipped with everything you may need. Beds were comfortable, showers were great, and the property manager Mauro was amazing!!! He made sure we new how everything in the apartment functioned and was easy to communicate with. I would defined come back and stay here.
Perfect property in every way!
Wonderful experience in every way. Large bedrooms, spacious bathrooms, plenty of room in living and dining areas. Entire property is updated and provides all the comforts of home. The owner and local manager provide great detail to ensure you make the best of your time in Tuscany. And did you see the stunning patio? Get some Brunello, pecorino, and enjoy hours of views.
We just stayed at the apartment this past month and had a wonderful time. The apartment is totally remodeled and is right in the center of the beautiful hill town. The rooftop terrace was a lovely place to enjoy the view after our days of touring wineries and neighboring towns.
Visit any of the 250+ local wineries plus wine bars to taste the famous Brunello di Montalcino wine. Enjoy some great Tuscan food and wine in the town's many restaurants. Walk through the charming medieval hilltop town and visit its many nice shops, selling local produce like wine, meat products, and honey as well as artisan products, and try locally made ice cream from the gelaterias. Enjoy the wonderful views of the famous south Tuscan countryside from the 16th century fortress and step inside a local museum or church for some traditional culture. Or just have a coffee or glass of wine in Piazza del Popolo to watch life pass by. Explore the famous spas in the neighboring town of Bagno Vignoni (25 minutes away) or go for a hike or bike ride through some truly enchanting countryside. Try out the beach and seafood opportunities in Castiglione della Pescaia (75 minutes away) or enjoy the outdoor swimming pools in Buonconvento and Bagno Vignoni (20-25 minutes away). Visit the famous 9th century Sant' Antimo abbey (15 minutes away) or explore charming Renaissance towns like Montepulciano (45 minutes away) and Pienza (30 minutes away). The latter also doubles as the center for the Tuscany pecorino (sheep milk) cheese production. There are excellent shopping opportunities at the Val di Chiana outlet village (45 minutes away) or The Mall, perhaps Italy's best designer outlet village (90 minutes away). And there's always Siena (45 minutes away), the best preserved medieval city in at least Tuscany and with a great atmosphere. Other Tuscan gems like Chianti, San Gimignano, and Florence are 70-90 minutes away.
