About Christine Anderson

We fell in love with Walloon when we would come up to visit family. We live in Chicago, and have 2 children and a yellow lab and wanted a retreat that felt just as comfortable as our home, yet completely different and very 'cottage-y'. We also wanted to create a haven for our family that would enabled us to really spend quality time outside the chaos of our regular life, make lasting memories as well as enjoy all seasons of Michigan.

Christine Anderson purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Christine Anderson chose Northern Michigan

The gorgeous turquoise water, and the warmth of an inland lake sold us on Walloon. We choose this property because it is nestled on a tiny point with recessed neighbors, making it feel secluded and private—yet still ideally located to rt 131 (great restaurants, shopping, skiing and golf...because who doesn't want to be 10 minutes away from a great restaurant?) The house has beautiful sunset views, warm clear water & hard packed sand/gradual drop off and a flat yard perfect for the kids. We found the cottage a perfect set up for our family as well as the ability to have a guest family -- 2 bedrooms with queen beds and a bunk room for the kids. Room for everyone in the open concept great room with stunning lake views and areas like the kids tv room as well as an office. It is fully renovated and decorated with a subtle up-north decor that feels welcoming the moment you step in the door and is comfortable all year long.

What makes this cottage unique

Our favorite things so far: Sitting on the dock at sunset, having a cocktail. Lounging in the hot tub on a chilly night. Kayaking very early when it's very quiet. Getting fresh veggies and fruit from CoveYou. Enjoying all the great restaurants from Charlevoix to Harbor springs. Taking the boat to Barrelback for dinner. Catching fish. Tubing. Walks through the forest preserves. Camp fires and smores. Looking at the stars with the telescope. Zipling. Skiing at Boyne. Snowshoeing on the lake.

A Relaxing Winter Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with another couple booked the Anderson home for a little winter getaway and had a wonderful time and experience. We hit the slopes at Nubs Nob (20 minutes away) one day and relaxed in front of the cozy fireplace on the other day. It was the perfect balance of activity and relaxation. The home was extremely clean and inviting. We stayed over the new year and it was important for my husband to watch the bowl games, when we arrived we noticed that one of the channels that the bowl games aired was not available. I contacted Christine about our dilemma and what our options may be to get the game, she jumped right on it, within 30 minutes we had the channel. We had a wonderful experience and look forward to staying again. The cozy home, hot tub, location, view, and Christine's hospitality made our winter trip perfect. I can only image all that the Anderson home has to offer in the summer...wow!!

Fall weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our first trip to the Petoskey area was wonderful, made especially nice with our stay at the Anderson's lake house. The reservation process itself was easy and done entirely online/through email with the owner. The pictures of the cottage are spot on - warm, cozy, beautiful lake view out the back wall of windows, very nicely decorated, comfortable furniture and beds, every amenity provided for. The home was the perfect size for us with a separate sleeping loft and couch/TV area that the kids used. Heated floors in the bathroom were wonderful! The home is well stocked with books, movies, and games for all ages. A house directory provided any and all information we needed for the actual home as well as recommended restaurants and things to do in the area. The fireplace was used in the evenings and quickly warmed up the home. It truly was a home away from home. The location of the house off a quiet road with a long driveway shared by a few other homes was great. The lake is literally steps out the back door. I love fall but imagine summers on Walloon Lake are gorgeous as well. Downtown Petoskey was a short drive away. Meijer, Home Depot, Lowes were all located on the way to Petoskey and we used them all! We took a trip to Mackinac which was a very easy drive and only about 30-40 minutes. Just a wonderful weekend, lovely home, great location. Five stars all the way.

Amazing Fall Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed for my Birthday weekend in October. We were lucky to stay during the peak fall colors. The scenery was BEAUTIFUL! The cottage has stunning views of the lake and Fall foliage. We were disappointed at first with the weather forecast, some parts of Northern Michigan had 3+ inches of snow on the ground! However, the cottage was the perfect retreat from the elements. The heated floors in the bathrooms, the cozy fireplace, relaxing hot tub, and soft flannel bedding made us feel so relaxed. Despite the weather, we were able to venture out and there are so many nice restaurants and shops in the surrounding areas. We managed to visit Boyne, Petoskey, and Harbor Springs. Even though the weather was chilly, we had a sunny day a decided to use the kayaks provided at the cottage and enjoyed paddling around Walloon Lake and taking in the scenery. The cottage is very welcoming and well maintained. It is obvious that the owners care about making their guests comfortable. The service they provide is exceptional! One example being that my husband and I wanted to watch the Michigan vs Michigan State football game, but we couldn't find ESPN on the TV. We contacted the cottage's caretaker who contacted the owner who contacted DirectTv and within 10 minutes, ESPN had been ordered for us! So an extra thank you for that!! We loved our entire weekend and can't wait to return!

An absolutely wonderful time!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Plenty of space in this lovely Walloon lake property It's a home from home with everything you need at the property. With beautiful surroundings it's simply relaxing. The house very clean and homely. A lovely weekend was had by all. The owner was always very helpful and answered all questions thoroughly.

Kitchen was fully equipped and had a large oven, dishwasher etc etc etc!.

Bedrooms were clean and very comfortable, We had the windows open at night for the lovely fresh-air it made sure we slept well each night.

All ages made use of the free WiFi, games and Canoes..

Bathrooms were clean and showers were very nice and powerful!

The surrounding area is beautiful I'd definitely recommend staying there. It's secluded but not to the point of isolation.

Five star all the way!

Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely wonderful time! We have 3 children, a 3yr old and a set of 15 mo old twins. The place was very, very clean, inside and out! The beds were comfortable. We were able to use the hot tub while the kids took a nap, or after they went to bed. This was mommy and daddy's relaxation time, and something we really wanted, since anything water related was just not in the cards for us with kids so small. There were lots of games and a nice selection of movies and books. Towels and linens provided. Clothes washer and dryer was very convenient by the end of our stay. A couple of tips if you are staying with young ones....we thought we were going to put the Pak n Plays in the "kids" area. But that area is not really a closed off room, but rather, connected to the entrance. So we squeezed 2 Pak n plays into the bedroom with the bunk beds. Thankfully they fit, and all was good. Also, the back yard that goes to the water, is rocky shoreline. Little ones would not be able to freely run around, as they might fall in the water. We remedied this by creating a make shift "fence" of deck chairs, lined up on the perimeter of the deck. This kept our little ones safely on the deck. There are only showers, not bath tubs. So we had to bath the kids in the shower. The single person kayaks were very convenient and fun to have. We were very close to Petosky, grocery stores, dining, bike riding, parks, etc. great location! With just a few minor adjustments for the kids, we were able to have a really great time, would definetly come back, and would recomend it to anyone!!
