Great location!

  • 4 of 5

The location of the house is great, on one of the most beautiful beaches! The beds were comfortable and even though we didn't cook in the house, it was nice having a kitchen to make lunches and breakfast.

not enjoyable

  • 1 of 5

We did not enjoy our stay and in fact, changed our flights and went home 3 days early. There was no AC, which we knew, but the fans hardly worked or made a loud/annoying sound so therefore we were hot. We did not feel safe enough to leave our children's windows open at night due to the beach path inches from the house with many frequented strangers walking by at all hours. Add to that the homeless man in the backyard bushes tripping on drugs (I get that it's on the beach and unavoidable), but all led to the fact that the windows don't lock and we didn't want to leave them open at night anyway with kids. This home was unsafe in our opinion and should get the windows replaced with locks.

There were dozens of dead and alive cockroaches inside the house. When we arrived, we disposed of about 6 dead cockroaches and moved on realizing we were in the tropics, but as the days progressed, it got disgusting. One huge cockroach flew at my face when I opened the kitchen cabinet. On our 2nd day there (we only stayed 2.5 days although had booked it for 6 nights), one of the bedrooms smelled like a dead animal. Probably a rat as there are rat traps all around the inside and outside of the house. If you have a toddler, it is not safe with the traps. There were tons of ants in the bathrooms, showers, kitchen at all times. The pots and pans are horrible and not even worth it trying to cook anything. The knives were also horrible and I struggled to even cut a mango. Again, not worth it to try to use the kitchen beyond the refrigerator and dishes.

Although we regret booking this home and did not have a good experience, the location is fantastic and the beach was beautiful. There needs to be many safety updates as well as fan and kitchen supply updates. Not worth it to book a trip to Hawaii and then want to go home early :(

Owner's Response: Aloha Emily, Our apologies that you feel you had the worst experience. As our history of reviews show this property is not at all as you describe. There is a beach path next to the property, it is law that there is a public right of way passage for beachfront properties as it is a public beach. We are in a tropical environment so bug and pests are a constant. We are required to have monthly pest control which is done on the regular basis. The property has bait boxes placed all around the property for rodent control. The Kailua Community Board does sweeps for homeless and they do not live in any bushes about the home, between the cleaners/caretakers and myself that inspect the home and surrounding areas. All windows were changed years ago and work perfectly fine and "lock" and fully close. We do understand that we cannot please everyone and many have expectations that are different than others. I do wish that when I contacted you that you mentioned any of these things or concerns and not just question about if you leave early due to "situation" that arised and you could get a refund. I hope all is well and everyone is healthy.

Vintage Oahu

  • 5 of 5

To stay in this original beach bungalow is like stepping back in time. Cute beach cottage set back from the beach on a lawn. Has a great vintage vibe, you could imagine duke walking through the door. We had a great time, it was perfect for 3 couples. The beach out in front is one of the most beautiful beaches in Oahu.

Thanks for the great stay

Vacation with family of five and a toddler.

  • 3 of 5

The location is perfect. The home is in need of some updating. There is a lot of rust in the home. If you like to cook the home could use some new pans and knives.

Excellent, Cozy Beachfront Property

  • 5 of 5

Our group of five stayed here the summer of 2005. I come back periodically to read the reviews and relive the experience. The home is roomy, the beds are very comfy and the Hawaiian breezes blowing through the house are refreshing. The kitchen is not large or fancy, but it had enough space and all the appliances and utensils we needed. You can hear the sound of the waves at night. They had lots of beach toys to play with and we easily walked to Kailua Beach on the sand. Kailua is a very nice place to stay on Oahu and it is close to many North Shore adventures. I would stay here anytime I was back on Oahu.
