Other information about what we provide:
* Shampoo, Hair Conditioner, Hand/Body soap, Dish soap, Laundry soap, Toilet Paper (If this seems silly to mention, we agree. We stayed at a distant vacation rental where they gave us 'starter' toilet paper. It was a very short roll of TP. We don't want you to have to experience that.) Plenty of kitchen towels, sharp knives, dishware, glassware and silverware. Other items: paper plates, reusable fabric shopping bags (plastic grocery sacks are not available at stores), a cooler for excursions, and 'blue' ice in the freezer.
* Hair Dryer
* Umbrellas--just in case
More details about our home:
* The apartment was built with top-quality materials and meticulous attention to every detail. The lanai is beautiful slate. On the inside, the floors are tile with knotty pine trim everywhere. There is plenty of room to spread out.

We are originally from the Seattle area and moved to Kapoho in 2008 because we fell in love with the area. We love to travel, but also love being at home in Kapoho. When we purchased our home, we knew it would need some modifications and have completely rebuilt it.
With the modifications complete, we feel our home and vacation rental apartment are among the most beautiful in Kapoho.
When we aren't in our paradise home, we are probably out traveling the world. In the summer of 2013 we drove our little camper van, Hale Iki (meaning little home) across the western US. Our 2014 travel included the Panama Canal, taking Hale Iki to Vancouver Island and walking in France and Spain on El Camino de Santiago Compostella (and we completed the 500 pilgrimage!). In 2015 our travel included Greece, Turkey, Oman, Jordan, Israel and the Suez Canal as well as a trip in our van up the Alaska Highway and into the Arctic Circle (yes, it's cold up there even in August). Bucket List Items:
Drive the Alaska Highway - CHECK.
Camp in the Arctic Circle - CHECK.
January 2016-Spanish Language class in Antigua Guatemela - CHECK. Eventually, we will be able to advertise...Habla Espaniol. But we need more school an MUCH more practice.
April 2016 we head Portugal, Spain, Copenhagen, St Petersburg, France, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Estonia and Belgium.
Just in case you ever want to find something to read to help you sleep at night, feel free to check out my 'on again/off again' blog. thewaytokapoho.blogspot.com.
Who knows what the next trip after this will be? We sure don't. Sometimes those last minute trips turn out to be the best!
Susan purchased this apartment in 2008
We moved, from the Seattle area, to Kapoho in 2008 because of the beauty and serenity. After years of working in 'Corporate America', we both decided that this is the best place to retire. We have a huge garden, love snorkeling at the Waiopea Tide Pools, and all of the other beautiful swimming locations in our area.
We are both active in the Kapoho and the greater Hilo area and love to participate in the wonderful offerings this side of the island offers.
Thermally heated tidal ponds are common in this area and some are warmer than others. This is the only area of Hawaii with these, so it is truly unique. The Marine Sanctuary is a 5 minute bike ride (or a 15 minute walk). Incredibly colored/shaped corals and small schools of good-sized fish. Big schools of smaller fish. We have traveled quite a bit, and this is a gem and is easily accessed--what a treat. Or you can bike up and down the coast, with minimal car interference, even though we don't have official bike lanes. Take a walk along the coast, towards Cape Kumukahi, the Eastern most point of the island, and the state.
Our family's stay at Kapaho Breeze was all that we could of wanted as our expectations were not only met, but surpassed. Kapoho Breeze Ohana and accommodations were the finest and gracious . The amenities and location of Kapaho Breeze enabled our family to fulfill their magical experience of the Big Island. We look forward to our return.
My partner and I stayed at Susan and John's lovely home (with our friend from Maui) in June 2016. We have stayed at several VRBO locations the past couple of years. I can say without any question that Susan and John's rental is by far the best VRBO we've ever encountered. First, they are the most gracious hosts ever (hopefully you'll stay when their white pineapples are in season!). We arrived very late in the evening. Susan had sent me a text welcoming me to the island which was waiting for me when we landed. Although the instructions to get to where the key is found were a bit confusing, once we arrived at the property we felt like we'd arrived at home. They have assembled an excellent book of resources, maps, suggestions, etc that really helped to make our time in the area much better. Their place is very spacious, VERY clean, very modern, they have everything well marked (like light switches and ceiling fans), plus they have the BEST selection of water toys, yard toys, etc. You even have access to use their golf cart.
I can't recommend their place ENOUGH! Like I said, if I could I would give it 6 or 7 stars. If we ever come back to the Hilo side of the big island we'll definitely come back to stay with Susan and John. Thanks to both of you for everything!
My husband, son (12 yrs), daughter (9 yrs) and I stayed here for 11days to celebrate my winning my battle against Stage 3 Triple Negative Ductal Carcinoma (Breast Cancer). I was looking for a beautiful place that was relaxing, yet had many options in regards to activities...this was it!
The pictures don't show spacious and beautiful this place is. It's very large and has so much space, plus everything you will need! Susan and John are extremely nice and very helpful with sharing the "must do's). Their suggestions helped us make informative decisions on what to do, allowing us the time to take in all the beauty and serenity. The community is great with the Champagne Pond and use of the golf cart. It was nice having the jacuzzi on the lanai for use. The kitchen was extremely organized and has more items available for use than some people have in their own homes! Being near Pahoa was nice! A 15 minute drive to grocery store and restaurants in Pahoa...convenient and fun to meet locals! We will definitely be returning! It was definitely the best was to celebrate life and relax, taking in the beauty and joys of life by living in the moment!
Beautiful, clean, comfortable, quiet, accommodations in a perfect location to recharge, relax and explore! We had a wonderful time and will be returning next year!
We stayed here for five nights with children. Ages ranging from 2-13. Everyone had such a great time here! The golf cart was such a plus. The kids loved the champagne ponds and the tide pools. Upon arriving there were earplugs by each bed. We didn't need these bcause the frog sounds were beautiful! The morning birds were just as pretty and the sunrises were amazing as well if you get up early enough, I recommend taking the golf cart for a spin to catch it full view. There was plenty of snorkel gear in the garage as well. We really had a great time here. There is a guest book with all the information including maps and places to go and see. The geckos are so cute too! My only complaint which isn't really a complaint is that it was hot at night even with the doors and windows open to catch the breezes (which are amaizng and to die for) maybe some sort of air conditioner in the bedrooms on a timer? It didn't really bother me too bad and by the time we left I had adjusted to it, And nobody else complained. I'm a nursing mom and I run hotter. All in all we WILL be going back! We fell in love with the little town pahoa as well.
Oh yes, and I must mention that the owners were not there during our stay but they had the most precious couple care taking for them. Hardly knew they were there but very sweet and I made a friend.
We had a wonderful time and loved everything about Kapoho Breeze. Extremely Clean and very well organized. Kids loved the golf cart and they had a pack n play ready to go on our arrival. The grounds and surrounding area were exactly what we were looking for. Morning and evening walks down the neighborhood with the kids 3 and 4 were safe and enjoyable. Highly recommended Kapoho Breeze!
Don't forget - Hawaii Island has an active volcano. Drive about 20 miles, through the jungle on a coastal highway to view the lava entering the ocean. We're also just over an hour drive from Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park, the historical Kilauea caldera and home of Pele, the fire goddess. You can check out Hot/Warm Ponds, Champagne Pond, and Wai O Pae Marine Sanctuary all within walking, or short biking distance. Because of all the warm springs in the area the ocean water is a little bit warmer here, around 5 degrees F -- not a lot, but for us every degree helps.
