This is a charming and rambling home that combines modern comforts with the texture and character of an historic Hudson Valley house.
The ground floor of the three stories of living space has an expansive open plan living/dining room with a fireplace and french doors out to the patio and grounds on one side, and the porch and cottage gardens beyond on the other. This space flows into a large open country kitchen- with vintage garland stove, dishwasher and microwave- with a powder room and laundry off of it. The ground floor is an ideal space for family gatherings or entertaining and has that wonderful indoor-outdoor summertime flow.
On the second floor is the king sized master bedroom suite featuring vaulted beamed ceilings and a fireplace with its private bathroom with large pedestal sink, stall shower, bubble tub built for two and french doors with access to the grounds via a charming bridge. Additionally on this floor is a media room/library with Direct TV and DVR, two smaller sunny corner bedrooms, a third transitional room and a full bathroom.
The third floor has another roomy king sized suite with vaulted ceilings and a large bathroom with tub and hand shower. There is air conditioning in the two king sized rooms.
Guests will have full use of the house and grounds plus there is plenty of parking space
The spacious and varied grounds are a gardeners dream and feature a koi pond, vegetable garden, cutting garden, herb garden, rock garden, perennial beds, and a hammock with sculptures throughout to discover and room to stroll or run around
I will greet guests whenever possible to give them the overview and then will leave them to enjoy their privacy. Although new to Home Away, I am an experienced and well reviewed host on another vacation rental site and like my guests to feel completely at home and comfortable.
The house is located just outside of the Village, and is set far from the road, accessed through a long gated private driveway. We share the driveway with our two neighbors and multitudes of deer, wild turkeys, foxes and other critters so drive with caution as you approach.
Well behaved and house trained dogs are welcome but sadly we have a cat allergy in the house.
About Rhinebeck and the area:
The Dutchess County Fairgrounds has events all season long including Food and Wine festivals, Craft Fair, Antiques Fair, the county fair and my personal favorite, the Sheep and Wool festival in the fall. Additionally there is the Rhinebeck Aerodrome for vintage airplane shows, tours of wonderful Hudson River Houses such as FDR's home and presidential library in Hyde Park, the Vanderbilt and Mills Mansions of the Guilded Age, and Wilderstein right in Rhinebeck. Hudson is a 30 minute drive due north if you want to spend the day rubbing shoulders with the discreet country version of NYC's hip and chic or antiquing beyond what Rhinebeck has to (URL HIDDEN) stopping at Olana ( the quirky and fabulous moorish inspired home of painter Frederick Church) as well as nibble your way from farm stand to farm stand there and back. For outdoor activities there are plenty of hikes locally with the lovely and contemplative Poets Walk right on the river, and Ferncliff Forest which are both in Rhinebeck, or a 25 minute drive into the Catskill Mountains for a strenuous hike followed by a hearty meal in Woodstock.
The house provides ideal alternative accommodations for guests coming to the area for workshops at the Omega Institute or the Culinary Institute of America, campus visits to either Bard College or Vassar or weddings at the areas many venues.

About Owner / Property Manager
Greetings! I live in Manhattan but my house in Rhinebeck is an important weekend touchstone for me. For nearly 10 years the renovation and restoration of this house and property has been a labor of love for me...a creative project that will never be completed and that I am pleased to be able to share with my guests. Although new to Home Away I am an experienced host through another vacation rental site. Among my myriad creative pursuits I am most passionate about gardening and eagerly anticipate the opening of each new fragrant blossom or the harvesting, preparing and eating of the crops that I grow. In the summer months you stumble across me out in the garden beneath a large hat, elegantly covered in dirt and sweat making sure that there are flowers and veggies for you to makes me happier!!
