Centro Historico Apartment Rental Photos and Description

A Split Plan Apartment, on the 2nd floor.

This elegant, split plan apartment is in the Historic District of San Miguel de Allende (see the Map), in the centre of Mexico, 3.5 hours by comfortable bus, or shuttle, from Mexico City Airport. Less from Queretaro or Leon. The centre of SMA is the Jardin (Har-deen); the Jardin is on the other side of the block this apartment is in. Our street door is 20 yards from the Angela Peralta Theatre. We (the Courtyard and apartments) are set in an entire apartment from the street. The apartment is comprised of a Master suite (walkin closet, ensuite bathroom) and a Guest suite, and is on the second floor. Apartments overlook a courtyard and fountain. The roof terrace has plants, flowers, outdoor furniture and lovely views in every direction. The Christmas rate (Dec 18 - Dec 31) is $1,800 a week. In High Season (Jan1 - Mar 31) the apartment rents for $1200 a week. The Master Suite overlooks the Courtyard and fountain. There are 2: a Master with a King bed, large desk, blackout curtains, 2 lamps, a Queen Ann chair, a bookcase, and a flat screen TV, equipped with Amazon FireTV Stick, and a DVD player. Ensuite are a 6 foot, 2 sided, walk-in closet with 14 drawers, shelves, cupboards, and hanging area, with clothes and pants hangars. The Master bathroom has a shower and overlooks the small garden, that is on the first floor. The Master suite runs west to east and faces west over the Courtyard. Between the two suites, in the centre of the apartment, are the living room/dining area, the kitchen, pantry, and laundry room. On the other side of these central rooms, down a short corridor, and in the south east corner of the apartment is a small, fully furnished Guest bedroom. It has it's own bathroom. The Guest Suite has a desk and chair, plus an upholstered Club chair, a footstool, and 3 lamps; French doors open onto a flowered balcony, over a small garden. The full Guest bathroom is separate, has a tub and shower and overlooks a small garden. A heater, a fan, a white noise machine, Vonage phone, wireless HS Internet, and a flat screen TV, with Amazon FireTV Stick, are furnished. There is an automatic washing machine; but there is also a dry cleaners and laundry across the street. All linens (sheets are ironed), towels, paper products, and laundry soap are included. There is purified water throughout the apartment, and Reverse Osmosis water to drink and cook with. You enter the complex (again, please see the Video, although it is for people only interested in renting the Guest Suite), through a courtyard with flowers, trees, and a lovely fountain. A doormen provides security, as does the video surveillance system. There is a roof terrace with views almost to Madrid; guests enjoy it for morning coffee, watching the hot air balloons, to entertain friends, or for sun bathing. The ambiance of the apartment is French Moroccan, so shade is valued and blackout curtains are available at many of the windows. I have original paintings and Persian carpets, and the light here is very strong. This is not a hostel, B&B, or pension. Sex, age, and sexual orientation are irrelevant. Due to it's location, around the corner from the Jardin, this apartment is ideal for people wanting to get to know San Miguel and the Historic District. Maid service, 4 hours 2 days a week, is included; more may be available with one month's notice. No subletting, no pets, no smoking; overnight guests limited, with prior permission, and at the rate stipulated. NOTE: VRBO requires a 'nightly' rate, but I do not rent by the night. You can stay the days you want to, but your rate will be for 6 nights. Please check the Calendar for availability. The Guest Suite only is available off-season at a different rate.

Suitability:
  • Events Allowed
  • Long-term Renters Welcome
  • Minimum Age Limit for Renters
  • non smoking only
  • not suitable for children
  • pets not allowed
  • wheelchair inaccessible

About Louise Ouellette

I grew up in Michigan on the lake and graduated from the U of Michigan, flew for PanAm, taught school in Latin American, married, and lived for 17 years in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, in the West Indies. My son is a commercial airline captain and lives in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, with his wife and my granddaughter. My sister, who is blind, also lives here in San Miguel. I find San Miguel delightful and I admire the Mexican people; I feel fortunate every day I'm allowed by the Mexican government to live here.

Louise Ouellette purchased this apartment in 2003

Why Louise Ouellette chose San Miguel de Allende

The location of the apartment, in my opinion, and for me, is unequaled. I've lived in Paris and in London and this is the closest thing to that type of urban living, without the staggering cost and the traffic noise. I like to walk to most everything - safely and without sweating. I have churchbells, parades, fireworks, people who make eye contact and exchange daily greetings with me; I know my neighborhood and many of my neighbors. There are 3 alternative medicine sources within a block, Starbuck's is around the corner, and if the wind is blowing just right I can hear the mariachi's playing in the Jardin on weekends. San Miguel was voted 'Best City in the World 2013' by Conde Nast Traveler; we may not have the Louvre or the Crown Jewels or a Formula One race track, but we have a combination of lifestyle and climate that is exceptional. Most of the expatriate, permanent residents here, literally had the world to choose from and, often, after trying many other famous places, chose San Miguel.

What makes this apartment unique

There are only so many rooms (B&Bs, hotels, etc.) in this prime location. People who value comfort, elegance, security, and location, like this apartment. Again, the Guest Suite is rented off season for a different rate.

I loved staying at Anna's! Her place and the whole complex are beautiful! The description was very accurate and you can't beat the location. Most of all Anna is a wonderful person! Thank you for two perfect weeks! Hopefully will see you again next year!

Like home, only better

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in the guest suite at Anna's for a month. One glance and I knew this was the perfect spot for me. Fresh flowers, an oriental carpet, and a lovely oil painting by San Miguel artist, Frank Gardner and maid service twice a week. I was out and about every day, attending

Spanish classes (at Warren Hardy School), life drawing classes, checking out the activities at the Jardin, attending lectures and concerts at the Angela Peralta theater (next door),

meeting friends for Happy Hours,etc.etc. Someone has described San Miguel as a "banquet"

of cultural events and things to do. So true, and I was a glutton. It was so nice to return "home" at the end of the day and settle into the well-illuminated reading chair with a glass of wine

and my computer and/or book. Mary, the maid, came twice a week . She did my personal

laundry, cleaned the bathroom (even polishing my hand mirror and removing hair from my hair brush), straightened my room and changed my sheets (which felt ironed). I was spoiled.

This condominium is right in the center of everything. You will hear church bells, dogs

barking, revelers (usually just on weekend) but I found the white noise machine provided

really worked well. Don't let the noise factor scare you off.

As other reviewers have mentioned, Anna is the perfect hostess and has led a rich life.

She has fascinating stories to tell but is careful to not impose unless you express

a desire to converse. If she has space available, grab it!

A Reprieve From the Hot and Hectic

  • 5 of 5

During my stay with Anna, a couple of things were memorable:

First, Anna is a fine lady---honest and generous --- who wants her guests to enjoy her home and to feel welcomed. I slept well because the bed and air circulation/fan allowed me to rest comfortably. (No fear of mosquito bites--- because Anna supplied the citronella! When I was ill for a couple of days, Anna walked with me to see her doctor...) Most of my day--- into the evening ---was spent out and about exploring the city; but when I returned for the evening, I felt right at home.

Second, Anna always made time to answer my questions about the city of San Miguel, which helped a lot since this was my first visit.

Also, when my wife and daughter came to visit me, Anna was just as welcoming and hospitable toward them as she was to me during my entire stay.

My wife and I hope to return to Casa Anna soon to experience Anna's hospitality once again!

beautiful and convenient

  • 5 of 5

I had a fantastic time staying at Anna's beautiful condo. I had plenty of privacy, yet Anna was available to give advice about what to do and see. I actually went with her to several concerts, and met some of her friends which made my stay much more enjoyable than it would have been if I would have stayed in a hotel. her condo is beautiful, and perfectly located in the centro historico; right outside the door there are many restaurants and galleries, and the main square is just a few blocks away. As a single woman traveling alone I also felt very safe staying with Anna. I would recommend this rental without any reservations, especially for single travelers.

A perfect spot!

  • 5 of 5

I travelled solo to SMA and stayed with Anna and her resident siamese cat, Mr. Spock, for a month. Anna's 2 BR apt. is perfectly located 2 blocks or less from everything you need in SMA. The bedrooms are on opposite sides of the living/dining/kitchen/laundry areas, and each has it's own bathroom, creating privacy. Anna is a lovely woman, who became a good friend, and she has spared no efforts to give her guests the best possible experience. My room had wifi, appleTV, a desk, a reading chair and lamp, french doors opening onto a leafy courtyard, luxury linens, a queen bed which separated into two twins when I had a visitor, and a large bathroom with tub/shower. There was ample storage space for clothing, as well as a shelf in the pantry and one in the refrigerator. The entire apartment is beautifully furnished and comfortable, one flight above a large courtyard which is separated from the street by a locked wooden gate. It has access to a roof deck. I felt completely safe and able to enjoy all that this wonderful, culturally rich city has to offer. I had doubts about sharing an apartment with it's owner, but when I needed help or wanted company, having Anna on site proved to be a plus. I plan to return. Don't hesitate. This is a perfect spot in a perfect city!

Fulcrum of a cultural mecca

  • 5 of 5

SMA, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008, is not only recognized for its colonial Spanish-Mexican architecture, but is a thriving, cosmopolitan site of sophisticated, emerging contemporary art and performance, organic markets and fine cuisine. Anna’s home, located in the center of the historic city, is a marvelous launch pad to all SMA has to offer.

Anna has been host to culture seekers for a long time and is consistently fresh and energetic, helpful and informative, generous and conscientious, and with her infinite curiosity, an intelligent guide to SMA and its place in the world. What you read in the VRBO reviews about Anna’s place beginning in 2013 remains true in 2016. Former reviewers all mention something meaningful that Anna did to connect them to this place. For us, Anna hosted a conversation with local world travelers that shared their stories of wonder and awe.

Mesones is SMA's historic street of the inns that has hosted travelers since the 16th century finding their way from silver mines in the north to the capital city in the south. Anna’s home anchors that street, just steps from the Teatro Angela Peralta, the Bellas Artes, the Jardin Principal, the Parroquia, the Biblioteca Pública, shops, galleries and restaurants to suit every taste, and a surprise behind every door. If you can keep up with her, Anna can give you a whirl-wind tour. Central and yet simultaneously secluded on a central courtyard with a roof terrace watching over church domes and distant mountain ranges, her comfortable, welcoming, well-appointed apartment was a perfect place for us to immerse ourselves in SMA.

Anna is a superb host. Not only do we recommend this intimate guest suite, but we will be back.

Owner's Response: You are both so generous in your praise! You were "as good as it gets" as guests and I would recommend you to anyone you wished to stay with. It was wonderfully interesting, to say the least, conversing with folks from a place I never knew existed! I will never forget YELLOW KNIFE, NORTHWEST TERRITORIES!! and often think of you when I look at the night sky.
