About Mark and Lisa Engelman

We reside in Phoenix and have enjoyed many weekend trips to Flagstaff over the years. We bought this home and furnished it specifically to share with you! We have had wonderful experiences ourselves with vacation home rentals so it was a logical and exciting next step to get our own home listed as well!

Mark and Lisa Engelman purchased this house in 2012

Why Mark and Lisa Engelman chose Flagstaff

We chose Flagstaff because it is an awesome town on its own with a unique history, great restaurants and shopping, but also because its centrally located to other major attractions such as the Grand Canyon and Sedona. With such a short drive to get there from Phoenix (under 2 hours), Flagstaff offers a welcome escape from the summer heat for 'Valley' residents like us. Flagstaff has many cultural, recreational, and sight-seeing attractions of its own as well, and with 4 distinct seasons it is a desirable destination any time of year. In winter, the snow and surrounding mountains provide many opportunities for fun including downhill and cross country skiing, sledding, tubing, etc. In autumn, temperatures cool and the foliage in the surrounding forests turns colorful for unforgettable hiking and scenic touring. Spring and summer temperatures make ideal conditions for outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and sightseeing. Not to mention strolling the delightful downtown area or sitting at a sidewalk cafe and people-watching.

What makes this house unique

Our home in Flagstaff has several unique benefits over other vacation rentals. Its size, number of bathrooms, and number of private sleeping quarters makes it ideal for larger groups. In addition, the layout of the home over three stories with two separate decks in the back, a huge rec room in the basement and living room/dining room on the main floor, makes it easy for people to either gather together, or spread out into their own separate space if desired. The rec room with its 70 inch TV, surround sound system, billiard table, and convenient bathroom is a great area for socializing or relaxation. We love to cook and entertain so naturally the kitchen and wet bar are fully stocked with plenty of dishes, glasses, and quality cookware for large groups. Furnishings and décor are all brand new throughout, with a fun mix of city and country styles. The back gate allows easy access to the large green space behind the house which provides a fun area for the kids to play (while you watch them from the deck), or for you to take a stroll with your dog. The trail running through this area leads directly to the Mt. Elden trail system, providing a great opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy some hiking or mountain biking. Treks to downtown are also easy and quick by car (just 6 minutes!) or safely by bike via the Flagstaff Urban Trail System bike paths.

So comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 (plus our 2 golden doodles) enjoyed every bit of this home! It's immaculately clean, well-appointed, and spacious enough that everyone could have their own space. The master bed is SO comfortable, and our kids loved the bunk beds. Grocery shopping is nearby, the neighborhood is peaceful, and you can't beat the view off the deck. Everything that could make our stay comfortable was thought of, from laundry detergent to little toiletries. We have rented homes in Flagstaff every summer for the last 5 years, and this was definitely the nicest!

A quality property making for a quality experience in Flagstaff!

  • 5 of 5

We've rented numerous properties over the years for our family vacations and this one was hands down the best! Not only was the location perfect for our daily activities but the house itself had something for everybody. The grandkids really enjoyed the downstairs with the pool table and the numerous kid friendly games and movies. The adults enjoyed our daily happy hour on the deck and the patio. We all especially enjoyed and appreciated the kitchen with all it's amenities. The beds were all very comfortable with quality linens which added a nice touch. The hiking and biking trails were numerous and accessible out the back door. Pre-breakfast treks were a daily occurrence and a great way to start our days. Mark and Lisa's recommendations for activities and restaurants, grocery stores and anything else you might need were especially helpful. Mark's communication made the whole experience of renting this property very easy such that we had great confidence upon arrival that the property would be exactly what was represented and it was in every way. We highly recommend this property to anyone wishing to visit the Flagstaff area!!

Super nice home

  • 5 of 5

Very clean an well kept. Owners were very detailed in instructions, which was helpful. Newer kitchen and appliances. Great layout. Bed in the master was very comfortable (we didn't use the other bedrooms). We, and especially our dog, loved sitting outside on the deck next to the kitchen. It was a great relief after June in Phoenix! Nice entertainment room in the basement made for a real enjoyable experience.

Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

The house has everything you need to feel at home while on vacation. Our boys (age 10 and 12) loved the large family room with the pool table and large television, as well as the PS2 in the bunkroom. My husband and I loved spending time outside on the deck.

We have rented a number of vacation rentals and this property is by far one of the best. Mark and Lisa did a great job ensuring we had the essential items needed to prepare meals, cookware, spices, cooking spray, etc. The coffee, tea, and popcorn were also greatly appreciated! Proximately to Grand Canyon, Sedona, and all the wonderful hikes in Flagstaff make this a terrific vacation rental.

Car: necessary

This home is located on a friendly cul-de-sac street in the desirable Swiss Manor neighborhood of Flagstaff with close proximity to Historic Route 66, providing for short commutes via car to historic downtown (6-7 min), the Flagstaff Mall or a grocery store (2-3 min), many nearby restaurants, and attractions such as Walnut Canyon, Lowell Observatory, and Arizona Snowbowl. The Grand Canyon is only a 1.5 hour drive! The spectacular red rocks of Sedona are about 40 minutes! Northern Arizona University (NAU) is just 10 minutes away. And it is a 15 minute drive to the road that leads up Mt. Humphries to the Snowbowl ski area.

Close proximity to I-40 also means you can get in and out of town fast, without driving through downtown if desired.

Do you like to hike or mountain bike? The Mt Elden trail system begins just through this home's back gate for miles of beautiful Ponderosa pine lined trails and fresh mountain air! Nearby (~1 mi via hiking) is Flagstaff's most popular loop trail 'Fat Man's', with great views of East Flagstaff and the surrounding area. And if you're feeling up for it, take the 'Lookout Trail' connection off 'Fat Man's' and hike all the way to Mt Elden's summit! There are also many biking opportunities nearby provided by the Flagstaff Urban Trails System (FUTS) bike paths, which can safely take you around town or downtown in just a few minutes.

Need to grab a quick bite or a gallon of milk? There are several local and fast food restaurants within a 10 minute walk from this home. There is also a convenience store within walking distance.
