About Bruce Janssen

Bruce and Jodie Janssen have lived in Boyne City for forty years and are the proprietors of The Wood Shop, an award winning sign company. Active in the city's Main Street Program and various other civic endeavors they have taken a great interest in their adopted hometown and want those who visit to enjoy it as much as they have over the years.

Bruce Janssen purchased this house in 1986

Why Bruce Janssen chose Northern Michigan

In 1986, Bruce's parents purchased this lovely home as a summer home. Both parents have passed on and the home is now being used as a family retreat when it is not being rented and shared with others.

What makes this house unique

This is a lovely, solidly built home which was renovated in 2011. Ranch style with a hint of Mission styling, the home has a mix of hardwood, tiled and carpeted floors throughout. The kitchen is perfect for entertaining with its open floor plan and includes all cooking utensils, large refrigerator/freezer and dishwasher. A large screen television in the spacious living room can be used to watch movies while lounging in the great recliner sectional sofa or you can watch your favorite cable and network shows via the DirectTV satellite. Downstairs is roomy enough for games or just hanging out. The house is quite cozy with water baseboard heat throughout and air conditioned for those occasional too warm summer days. You can start your day with a cup of coffee watching the sun come up in the east over the valley or end the day with a drink while sitting on the deck. Any way you choose, this house has a great ambience and you won't regret spending your vacation here.

Hidden gem! Absolutely gorgeous house and property.

  • 5 of 5

My family (three people) plus my sister-in-law's family (five people) stayed at Bruce's house while visiting my son who lives in Charlevoix. We took our boat up for the weekend so we could tour a couple of the surrounding lakes. This house was absolutely perfect! We comfortably fit all 8 of us and nobody was left without a bed. The location is perfect, a short drive to almost anywhere up north, and even if you are driving it is all so scenic it doesn't even seem as far as the mileage tells you it is. We DEFINITELY will be staying here again and recommending this place to all of our friends. The house was SO clean, came fully stocked with spices, plastic baggies, etc. The gorgeous land surrounding the property offers groomed trails and a view that can't be described. The owner was incredibly nice and eager to answer any questions and told us about some of the events that were going on in Boyne City during our stay. If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would. I can't think of one negative thing about this rental property. If you have a larger group and need comfortable accommodations, do not hesitate to book this property.

Great Property and super homeowners

  • 5 of 5

We had a family reunion at Walloon Lake and needed some extra space for part of the family. I contacted Bruce about his home and it could not have been more perfect. Lovely home, well laid out for our 8 guests. Bruce and his wife were easy to work with and responded to every call and question immediately. I would definitely recommend their home to anyone who needs a place to stay in the area. It was also the only property in the area I could find that did not require a minimum one week stay.

Excellent Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

Our family (2 adults and 2 children) and another family (2 adults and 2 children) rented Janssen North for a winter weekend. We loved it. It was close to Boyne Mountain for skiing. It was close to Boyne City for dinner and evening fun. It was close to Avalanche Bay to end the perfect weekend, and in between it was perfect for nature hiking and sledding. The home was clean, comfortable, and spacious. It was well appointed and had everything we needed. We will be back. Thank you for the memories.

Excellent Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The property was perfect and in an excellent location. On the one rainy afternoon we were able to sit comfortably inside and watch the wildlife, while on the nice days visit the beaches and towns that northern Michigan is famous for. The hosts made everything flawless and enjoyable with a turn key home. Thank you Bruce!

This is the third year we have rented Ed's house for our family gathering. It meets our needs perfectly. We could not be happier.
