Wonderful rustic vacation home right on the water
We loved staying at this property for a week of hiking and relaxing. The property has neighbors but it is surrounded by trees and set back on a very private drive which makes it feel secluded - exactly what we were looking for. We enjoyed the rustic cabin feel, and the property had all of the amenities needed to make it an enjoyable trip - plenty of firewood for the indoor fireplace, ample cooking dishes and utensils, and lots of warm blankets perfect for the cool Maine evenings. Like others, we loved having a cup of coffee on the deck in the mornings as we watched the lobster boats. We didn't even have to get out of bed to watch the sun rise - we could see it perfectly from our bed through the large windows overlooking the water. Best of all, our dog was in heaven - both at the property and on hikes on Schoodic Penninsula and MDI. Check-in and check-out were easy - would definitely stay again. Thanks for a great trip!
Wonderful oceanside getaway
This is our second trip to this part of Maine and I’m so glad we choose this cottage. Everything we needed was provided, the deck is wonderful for morning coffee, and the rocky beach is of course beautiful. We had our dogs with us, who settled right in as well! If there was one issue, it would be the Wi-Fi strength - not great - but that’s really an issue for my partner, not me. We’d both love to come back and enjoy the solitude and peace at this lovely cottage!
Lovely Maine getaway!
Beautiful views, cottage was well equipped. Very private and serene.
We still hear the bell
I experienced 276 miles of Maine in 1981 while hiking the Appalachian Trail from Georgia. I always wanted to revisit Maine with my wife of 36 years, so in August we flew up from North Alabama, enjoyed a night in Portland and spent another one in Millinocket, where I paid my respects – and introduced Dee – to Mt. Katahdin, albeit from a distance. Then we spent a week at this cozy Down East cabin in the woods on the rocky shores of Prospect Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. We absolutely loved our solitude at the cabin, relaxing on the sofa, hanging on the deck or sitting on the bench on the shore watching the tide roll in and out to the gentle clang of the buoy bell at the upper end of the bay. The cabin had all we needed and a few bonus surprises, such as the family of rabbit that visited the yard. Dee fittingly named the biggest rabbit Baxter, after the former governor who created the park that protects Katahdin and a vast hunk of the Maine wilds, and for the peak that marks the northern terminus of the AT. Before leaving, Dee proclaimed Maine her new favorite state. And now, three weeks later, we can still hear the rolling clang of the buoy bell. It's tolls for us ... thanks to you. David Moore
Beautiful location with something for everyone!
Simple but lovely cottage. The beds and amenities are perfect for a larger family. The sunrises are incredible with porpoises adding to the beauty most mornings. We loved beachcombing, bonfires and boat watching right out the back door. It's fun to explore Winter Harbor and the other small villages near the cottage. Easy drives or quick ferry rides to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The owners have really thought of everything! The only thing you need to know in advance is that there isn't a washer and dryer and it is a drive to the laundromat. We recommend taking the laundry adventure on a rainy day and explore Ellsworth in the process! You will really fall in love with the cottage and the surrounding area!
Beautiful home away from home!
What a great place to stay and relax. The house was beautiful and was fully stocked with all your needs. The deck was my favorite place to sit and watch the lobster boats come by each morning to check their traps. The kids (and adults) loved to search for starfish, crabs, lobsters and seaglass each day in the tide pools and rocks. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this house to our friends.
