Overview

About the property

Newly Renovated 4000 sq ft, 5 bedroom, 4.5 bath house in Heart of Crested Butte

Remodeled in 2013, our home is a former bed & breakfast, in the perfect Crested Butte central location.

The house is on the sunny side of town; in a residential neighborhood, two blocks to Elk Street shopping and dining, two blocks to Crested Butte town park/playground and the Performing Arts Center, and one block to Rainbow Park/playground and the Recreation Path. Ride to all lower trails in 5 minutes. The house is located one block to the Visitor Center and the free shuttle bus stop, which circulates through town and runs to the ski resort and three blocks to the town grocery store.

The house is set up as follows:

Downstairs has three bedrooms, all with en suite baths. Two of these bedrooms have queen beds, one has two full over full bunk beds. All have new furniture, mattresses, linens, etc. Also downstairs is a game room with a large screen tv, an x-box 360, many board games and a queen size futon; entryway/mudroom and laundry with oversized machines and sink for outdoor gear. A queen aerobed is also available for additional sleeping space.

Upstairs is the main living space with very large, open concept kitchen, dining, living areas, as well as a pantry and powder room. This is one of the only houses within Crested Butte town with large gathering spaces. Kitchen is fully equipped to cook for a crowd (two refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves and ovens; platters, large pots, etc.) and there is dining space and tableware for 18. The living room has plenty of seating and another large screen tv with a dvd player and surround system for movies or your ipod. A large bedroom (with queen bed and walk-in closet) and smaller office/bedroom are separated from the living space by french doors and share a large master bath. The office comes equipped with a chromebook laptop and a laser printer as well as internet and wifi. The office has a queen bed and large walk-in closet.

The house also has a two-car garage with secure bike storage, a wrap around porch and a large yard.

When we renovated this house, we did it with our own family and visitors in mind. There is lots of space to spread out and enjoy each other or have some privacy. We have kids' toys and dishes, a portacrib, spare twin sized floor mattress, a high chair, 2 townie bikes, a double bike trailer and a dog crate, bowls and leashes. Please note that primary renters must be over 25.

About Shannon Callahan

We live in Boulder Colorado most of the year and are avid ultra runners, mountain bikers and skiers. We've loved Crested Butte for many years for its amazing outdoor activities and kid-friendly community village attitude.

Shannon Callahan purchased this house in 2013

Why Shannon Callahan chose Crested Butte

For us, this is the perfect house - easy distance to the parks and playgrounds, one block to the ski shuttle, close enough to Elk Ave that's its an easy walk to dinner and ice cream but not noisy and with very little car traffic.

What makes this house unique

This is one of the town's largest homes; while there are other 5 bedroom houses, few of them have the very large gathering spaces we have.

Car: not necessary

Crested Butte is the last great Western town partly for what it doesn't have - chain stores, traffic lights (no traffic at all actually), surly attitude. And of course, also for what it does have - amazing mountain biking, trail running and hiking, extreme skiing, wonderful restaurants and bars, fabulous kids' playgrounds, friendly community. Our house is perfectly situated to everything Crested Butte has to offer and is completely outfitted to make vacations complete.

Great location, plenty of space and amenities

  • 5 of 5

Some friends and I stayed here during shoulder season and the home was great... quick walk to Elk Avenue, plenty of lounging and sleeping space, clean, double dishwashers, double fridges. Definitely a place I'd consider using again if visiting CB with a decent sized group.

The property was as good if not better than described by the owner.

  • 5 of 5

We have been going to CB since the 80's. This was our first time at this property. It has been our favorite so far. In the summer, you are one block from an awesome park, a few blocks from all of our favorite restaurants, and it's just incredible to be situated right in town. We have normally stayed up on the mountain or down around the golf course/Riverbend on all of our previous trips. The convenience of being in town trumps all of our other stays. There is no place more beautiful in the summer than CB. Can't wait to come back and stay again at this wonderful home.

Perfect Property for Large Groups in Charming Crested Butte

  • 5 of 5

The Gray Lady was the perfect place for our group of high school seniors and their parents for Spring Break! We had 5 teenagers and 7 adults thoroughly enjoy ourselves at this spacious home. We cooked all but 2 meals here, and had everything we needed in the kitchen. The amenities are awesome; especially the two dishwashers and two refrigerators, with a group our size. The location of the house, just a block from the free shuttle to the mountain, and walking distance to all the cute shops and restaurants in town, couldn't have been more ideal! The beds were very comfortable, and we had plenty of linens and towels. Also, we had more than enough soap, shampoo, conditioner, and make-up removing wipes to go around for all the girls.

We can't say enough good things about this rental or the owners, who were very helpful and got back to us right away when we had questions. We would definitely stay here again!

Spacious, well planned layout

  • 5 of 5

We had a family ski reunion with three generations staying at Gray Lady. This house is light and bright with comfortable furniture and space. There was plenty of room for everyone to lounge and hang out. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, dishes, glassware etc. and two dishwashers made cleanup easy. Bedding very comfortable and bath supplies and towels plentiful.

Location was great close to town and bus stop to the ski lifts. I would rent this place again and recommend it for large groups. We definitely want to go back.

Terrific setting for a reunion!

  • 5 of 5

The Gray Lady house was the perfect site for our 6 day, 11 person, 3-generation reunion. The house is big and beautiful and marvelously equipped with expected and unexpected household amenities including great toys for kids and excellent kitchen equipment and supplies. We plan to return.

Perfect place for large group gathering!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent 4 nights at the Gray Lady and it was perfect for everyone from 4 years old to 90! Lots of gathering space but also space to sneak away for a little privacy. The Town Shuttle (free -- funded by sales tax) is a block away and made traveling up to the mountain resort a piece of cake. A block past the bus stop and you're on the East end of the commercial area of town. Large kitchen and dining room made meal times easy, and two dishwashers are ready and waiting for clean up. We're already talking about doing the same thing next year, or maybe even this summer.
