Very clean and comfortable. Well situated within the city. Fred was really friendly and accommodating - he had some great recommendations for activities, shopping and restaurants.
Fred is a great host! He met our taxi personally to let us in the gate and to our apartment although it was 11pm. There was a nice chilled bottle of Chardonnay and a couple of good bottles of beer. There was also a can of coffee. We were able to contact him at all times and he was responsive and friendly when we needed him but he gave us plenty of privacy. The apartment is large enough for two people and the bed and pillows comfortable. He also provided a blow dryer, beach towels and chairs at our request. Thecation is a local neighborhood, very safe and easy to walk into Orangestad, so plenty of restaurants and shopping. Also 2 blocks to beach. The fabulous restaurant Pinchos is a short walk down the beach. We did rent a car as we like to do activities at our own pace and time, but it is easy to catch the bus to see other beaches. Suggestions: bedside table and another mirror, only one small one on bathroom. We had a great time!
The location was perfect but the accommodation itself left a lot to be desired.
We ended up paying for 2 extra nights because the owner would not contact you. Kitchen utensils were inadequate.
The location was fantastic. The accommodations were clean and metall our basic needs. Will book again for next Jan. Great weather.
We really enjoyed our week stay in Aruba. Fred was in contact with me before we left and met us at the property when we arrived. There were a couple of beers and a bottle of wine in the frig. He had some suggestions for places to eat and how to find places and even invited us to a party at his house during Carnival. The Carnival parade route is 1 1/2 blocks away if you visit during Lent.
The property is well located if you are not interested in the resort scene along the coast. We didn't rent a car and walked everywhere except to take a public bus to the resort beaches. There is a beach about 1 1/2 blocks away with several good restaurants and umbrella and chair rental (bring your own towels). Downtown is about 6 blocks away and we'd walk there for dinners, shopping and exploring. It is possible to rent a jeep or car for a day to explore the island. We booked a day long jeep tour.
The property is simple without a lot of amenities but perfectly adequate. There are ceiling fans and a mini split air conditioner. We ate our breakfasts on the front deck and also read there while watching the birds. We watched the Olympics on the TV some nights.
As two women traveling alone we felt safe at all times, even at night. The property has a locking gate entrance and the people we met were always friendly and willing to help with directions. Even though we were in town it was a very quiet neighborhood.
We had a little miscommunication with Fred before we left about how we were going to get a taxi to the airport (he thought we had arranged it and we thought he was going to arrange it) which resulted in Fred graciously driving us to the airport. Very accommodating host.
If you are leaving Aruba on a Saturday get to the airport 3 hours early. The lines are long and it takes that much time to check-in, get through customs, immigration and two security check-points.
It was a great pleasure hosting you and thank you for being such a great guest,
