Felt like Home
This home is spacious, beautiful and comfortable. We were in town for a wedding and we are more than happy that we elected to find a home and this one is a gem! We added a day for hiking and relaxing after the wedding which gave us time to have a fire in the outside fireplace in the lovely setting with the sound of waterfalls in the background. It was so cool that the waterfall had a light on it. The details of this fully equipped home is great, lovely dishes, many pots and pans etc. We enjoyed the secluded area and beautiful setting with rock walls and steps. Thank you so much for opening your home for us to enjoy. The home is super clean. It is always a gamble when renting out a home but this home had clean sheets, towels, bathrooms and kitchen.
The Green House is a great option for a multi generational family. We spent 5 nights there and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The house is clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The covered porch and outside space are lovely and with waterfall right there it was the perfect place to sit and relax. The house is perfectly situated with easy access to Highlands and the surrounding areas with all amenities very close by. All in all it was all we had hoped it would be and more!
Wonderful time at the Green House!
Wonderful time at the Green House, great location, secluded & peaceful, yet close to everything! So grateful to the owners for sharing their lovely home, we hope to return soon!
Not as spacious as we had anticipated
We enjoyed a nice week in Highlands, NC, and agree with many of the positive comments in earlier reviews about Green House, especially its quiet setting and lovely grounds. The covered porch was especial nice during rainy days, and the property has its own private waterfall. We found the rooms to be smaller and darker than the photographs indicated and found the house to be musty. The basement bedroom was especially damp despite a dehumidifier. Bathrooms were inadequate. The basement toilet never flushed properly so we stopped using it. The main floor shower is more than "walk in"; it is completely open and located between the toilet and sink vanity such that bathroom floor needed to be towel dried after each shower. The upstairs bathroom is small and scaled more for children than for adults. Many of the towels were worn and tired - guests might consider bringing your own. Cell service was limited such that we needed to go into town to have cell phones and iPads updated with emails, etc. Texting seemed to work okay. The wifi worked, but it had to be rebooted several times a day. We left a list for the caretaker re: day-to-day details such as burned out light bulbs, large black ants in the kitchen and den, missing remote control, etc.
Thank you for your feedback. Any issues that could be repaired have been addressed. As for cell service, it is common in the mountains to have intermittent service. I believe there was a lot of rain the week you stayed which can impact it as well.
I do feel the pictures on the website are representative of the house and future renters can rest assured they can have a comfortable stay at the Green House.
The Green House was perfect!!
My friends and I came here for a "girls getaway". First of all, the setting was private, beautiful and quiet. The house is literally nestled in the woods with it's own waterfall in the backyard! The interior of the house is decorated in such a lovely way with comfortable furniture (plenty of seating for a group), and lots of room. Our favorite is the living room because of all the windows facing the backyard area. The kitchen was incredibly stocked with anything you can think of! Just a wonderful home, very close to an adorable downtown, but private as can be! We loved it here!
Loved the Green House
We rented the Green House for two weeks end of July. We want to return. One week was with both our adult kids , spouses and one baby. Each kid had their own level of the house which worked out great. The location is very good. It is about a mile to Main Street. There is a gravel road to town. I found it a really good walk every day, sometimes twice a day! It may be a bit challenging for elderly people in some parts, but if you can walk most of the trails around Highlands it should be no problem. Highlands is such a lovely little town, plenty of restaurants and upscale food options.
The pictures of the covered porch don't do it justice. It is huge. We ate most meals when the kids were with us on the porch. There is a charming waterfall that adds to the peacefulness of the cottage. There is a TV on the porch we never even turned on. What a nice place to have coffee in the morning (if you don't walk down to Buck's). Having a covered porch is very important for times when it rains (not at all the first week, but some the second). The rain didn't stop us from enjoying the backyard and porch.
The kitchen was very well stocked with pots and pans, spices, paper products and such. The property is very well landscaped. It seems so secluded and quiet but you are only a 5 minute drive to town. Bryson's grocery store is at the end of the gravel road and has everything you need.
All in all I must say it was wonderful. A very cozy comfortable cottage, well maintained and it suited our needs perfectly. One time we called the care taker and he immediately came over, a very nice man. Leslie, the owner, was very easy to deal with, too. Hope to return!
