It's far easier to talk about the negatives points of Shorecroft....nothing! We've stayed in holiday cottages for years and Shorecroft is by far the most outstanding. The location and views are simply stunning, Shorcroft itself is fabulous and oozes quality, from the beds and bedding through to the kitchen utensils, literally everything has been thought about and executed to perfection. There was even smoked salmon and Champagne awaiting our arrival. We definitely hope to return, thank you.
Excellent holiday cottage in amazing location
Very well laid out property with a luxury feel to it. All the main rooms have views over the loch. The kitchen and dining area is very well equipped. My teenage son made use of the ice maker and we made use of the Nespresso machine as our go-to luxuries. We ate in and out enjoying the beautiful scenery in front of us. We saw some fabulous sunsets when it was sunny. We relaxed in front of the scenery and did some walking, kayaking and fishing.
A very peaceful area but a real hive of activity during WW11 when military personnel occupied the area for the artic convoys, a nearby museum we visited tells the story...very interesting. Some remains of the old battlements along the coast are still visible.
It only took us 5 mins to drive to a well stocked store at Aultbea and we visited the market in Poolewe on a Tuesday. You can also phone the local fisherman and order fresh langoustine etc. Phone number at the store. We picked some fresh langoustine (still living) up at Badachro whilst in that area and cooked them à la Jamie Oliver. Fish n chips at Gairloch we’re also very nice. Also, amazingly, there is a local cafe, part of the perfume studio, just 10 mins walk away. Like the last bastion of civilisation before wilderness and the Atlantic!
If you like the great outdoors with beautiful scenery...A great part of the world to holiday!
This is a stunning house; comfy beds, well kitted out kitchen, lots of thoughtful extras. Even on wet Scottish Highlands day, the house is beautifully warm and cosy. The views are breathtaking. Would totally recommend this place - we loved it.
Amazing Location, Fabulous house, Dream Holiday
This place is amazing, fantastic house in a stunning location, it is even better than the pictures show! If you are looking for peace and beauty, wildlife spotting, amazing walks, fabulous sunsets, relaxation, fresh air, then look no further. We have already booked for next year!
A twenty-minute drive over the headland from Gairloch takes you to the little village of Poolewe on the sheltered south side of Loch Ewe where the River Ewe rushes down from Loch Maree. Across the bay from Poolewe are the famous Inverewe Gardens, designed and planted by Osgood Mackenzie. Carry on along the coast for another 5 miles and you will come to the small village of Aultbea and then onto Mellon Charles at the head of the loch. From Shore Croft there are views to the Torridon mountains and out to the open sea, where on a clear day you can see the outer Hebrides. Shore Croft and the small bungalow next door share the pebbly beach, and are on the furthest edge of the settlement.
