Several updates were made to this home in 2015!
I am from Grand Haven area but had my big family come and stay to enjoy the lake. Decided to rent this cottage so everyone could stay together. The location was perfect right next to the beach, within walking distance to downtown Grand Haven. What I loved is that we where not caught up in the big crowds, it was very private. The owners where very nice and accommodating. All amenities were included that we needed. The house was clean when we all arrived. I would love to come back again.
My extended family (15-18 people) and I have rented this property (both units) for 15+ years. The property is very close to the beach and is also within easy walking distance to shopping, eating, downtown, etc. The owners are very accommodating and all of our concerns over the years have been dealt with very quickly. The property is always clean upon arrival and all amenities are as stated in the listing. We absolutely love staying here. Good luck finding a better location and value in the Grand Haven area. We will definitely continue our family vacations here.
My wife, 15 month old and I had no choice but to vacate this cottage early due to a 3-day bachelor party taking place in the upper unit. One of the upstairs guests informed us early in our visit that the reason for their stay was a bachelor party and that it might get a bit loud for our baby. We immediately contacted the owner of the cottage who stated that she knew nothing of the bachelor party and specifically does not allow parties of this nature. The owner could have booted the upstairs guests since apparently the owner was unaware of their plans upon renting to them. The only reason I can think of as to why the owner did not kick them out as soon as we informed them of the planned party is that the owner was making more money from the larger upper unit rental then the small lower unit that we were in. I spent the first couple days of our trip searching for another cottage after finding out that there was to be a bachelor party Thurs-Saturday night but I could not find another cottage to rent mid-week. In addition to spending vacation time searching for a new place to stay we also lost a night of sleep when the noise from upstairs woke our baby up and was also so loud it was impossible for even my wife and I to sleep through it so we jumped in the car at 3:00 AM and headed to the only hotel with availability that we could find. In the morning we spent half of yet another day packing up our belongings.
The second big issue was that there was no washer/dryer which the add clearly states one would be in the unit.
We ended up just giving up on our vacation all together and went home to Minneapolis days early. These issues completely ruined our vacation. I requested a full refund from the owner and it is now a month later with no response and no refund; I would never stay at that cottage again.
I have stayed here many times. It is a great place and a quick walk to the beach. It is a homey and cozy cottage where you can just kick back and relax. The location makes it great to bop in and out of throughout the day when you want a rest/shower/meal/ etc away from the beach.
Having grown up in the area, my wife and I were skeptical of renting a place during Coast Guard. This place was certainly the exception! We arrived after a wedding and immediately found parking in close proximity to our cottage. The next day we walked only a few hundred yards to Lake Michigan. What we appreciated most about this location was how private it was. Usually during Coast Guard there are thousands of, let's call them "tourists", who often don't respect the beach or quiet neighbors; this location was private and secluded with only a short walk to downtown. If you have not visited Bill Marr, the restaurant is not only incredible, but literally across the street, you must! It overlooks Lake Michigan and gives the whole family beautiful scenery and delicious food.
The cottage was quaint and clean, exactly what you would want in renting a cottage. We rented the lower level of this place and will certainly do so next summer!!
Grand Haven can be a busy tourist trap, but renting this cottage will allow you privacy, convenience, and a spectacular experience in Grand Haven.
I had a sterling time at this cottage with my girlfriend and close friends. Great people, great scenery, great times. The owners are always very friendly and accommodating. Being steps from the beach and walking distance to all nearby attractions is the cherry on top. This property has something for everybody, no matter what your walk of life.
10/10, would stay here again.
Only 1/2 mile from the board walk and 1 mile from downtown Grand Haven. This amazing walk down S. Harbor Drive passed the Grand Haven beach and pier and down the Grand Haven channel is truly breath-taking! Very close to shopping, boardwalk, lighthouse and state park. Located across the street from the ONLY restaurant on the beach (Bil-Mar). Private parking included.
