My name is Julie-Claire and I have owned this house since 2000. I lived in the house for 8 years and loved every moment in it! In 2009 my husband and I purchased a house just across the big orange bridge here in Nelson. I just couldn't sell this house as I LOVE it so much, so I decided to make it into a vacation rental.
I am an electrician by trade, and have worked here in Nelson for 13 years as an electrician at various companies and as an instructor for Selkirk College.
Currently I am on a year of maternity leave as I just had my second baby in April 2013.
Julie-Claire purchased this house in 2000
I have always loved Nelson...I grew up in Deep Cove, North Vancouver and since graduating high school I have moved to numerous towns and cities over BC but I always new that one day when I would settle down in Nelson. The culture and beauty of Nelson draw so many unique and different people-all types and it is what makes Nelson so special. The location of being hidden off all major highways, nestled amoungst the mountains, and overlooking gorgeous Kootenay Lake make Nelson so spectacularily gorgeous.
My house has a warm, cozy feeling. The colors and the lay out of the hosue make everyone immediately feel comfortable and at home. The deck has entertained many over the years as they enjoy its magnificiant view of Kootneay Lake and Kokanee Glaciar. My favorite thing about this house is how you feel like you are hidden away in a quiet, peaceful spot miles away from any neighbors or the hussle bussle of the town, but really you are right there almost in the core of it, surrounded by trees on 3.5 sides and an easy walk to anywhere I ever wanted to go!
A beautiful house easily slept 7 of us. Well equipped with washer, dryer and lots of good quality pots and pans. Great location close to downtown. No hill climbing which is unusual for Nelson (apart from the driveway!). Would defiantly stay here again.
We loved our stay in this beautifully renovated historic house while skiing at nearby Whitewater. First, it's so nice to stay in a house that hasn't been de-personalised, the way so many modern condos are. It's nicely decorated in an ethnic style, but one that resonates more as "adventure traveller" than "tie-dyed hippy". Think Oriental rugs and wall-hangings, warm colours and polished wooden floors, but also comfortable modern sofas, large TV, and a very functional kitchen, laundry and bathrooms (the main one with a lovely old bathtub). For an old house, everything works as it should. Second, it is in an awesome location -- easy walking distance of central Nelson shops and restaurants, and also supermarkets, with a beautiful outlook over the lake. There is no traffic noise as the house is located deep in the camping ground well away from roads. Third, the owner is accessible and helpful, and as a long-time resident of Nelson, a great source of info. For a family of skiers, the large entry area with loads of hooks was perfect for parking our snowy/wet boots and coats, and everything easily dried out overnight. Beds, while initially seemingly on the firm side, were comfortable and we all slept well. The kitchen was so well set up that we (almost) felt reluctant not to cook every night, but the lure of all those eateries in town proved too strong, for half our stay at least. Super place, and we'd stay there again in a heartbeat.
We had a brilliant extended stay at the "blue house" as our four-year-old son named his home away from home. The house is gorgeous, the view just beautiful and the location perfect, especially for our first week in which we didn't have a car and walked everywhere around town - it was an easy flat walk to everywhere we needed to go. We also really made the most of the campground below the house, which was closed for the winter and proved a great snowy park for our son to play around in. Once we got a car, it was all so easy to enjoy all the skiing and atmosphere at Whitewater, as well as visit the Ainsworth Hot Springs and various other attractions. Julie-Claire was a wonderful help on anything we needed to know or what have you, so welcoming and easy to deal with, it was a total pleasure. We will definitely return!
This was a great place to base our winter fun. We packed lunches and drove to Whitewater and the Nordic trails, also the hot springs at Ainsworth. We left the cars at the house to wander through the shops on Baker Street. Eight of us slept well and ate well. The clean kitchen had what we needed. The dining room was tight for eight so we set the table in the middle of the kitchen and it worked just fine. Had we been there in the summer I 'm sure we would have eaten all our meals on the deck.
We really appreciated the utility room for all our boots and jackets.
JC communicated well and made us feel very welcome. We would happily return to this neat old house with lots of character and beautiful views!
I booked this house as a comfy home away from home for my Men's curling team while they competed in the 2016 BC Men's Curling Championships. This was exactly what they needed to be able to stay focused with no distractions from other teams or the usual Hotel chaos. JC was awesome in helping me out with any questions I had and it was great to meet her husband and boy Cole as they even took in some of the curling.
The accommodations were great and I would only suggest a couple of very minor adjustments...curtains or pulldown blinds for the "office" room (where I slept on the futon there) , and a ton more water pressure if possible as that was a tough one with 5 guys sharing the one shower! No, not all at once...!
Other than that, I would very much recommend this house to anyone wanting some nice peace and quiet! :)
Stayed over a week long period in August. My wife, daughter and I along with my parents were in town for a family reunion. Property is great! Fantastic lake views and relatively close to everything. There is more than enough space in the modern but rustic home. The huge deck was a bonus as we had extended family(15) over for a large BBQ one evening. Early morning coffee overlooking the lake was also great! Water pressure was definitely a little lacking but to be expected in an older home.......not really an issue. Julie was great, was able to get us in a few hours earlier than we expected as well. Very helpful with area and suggestions etc. Will likely be back to this property!
My vacation rental is the whole house that I have owned since I moved to Nelson in 2000. This newly renovated heritage home sits peacefully and privately amongst the trees with only one neighbor far up a hill to the right. Everything from the electrical and plumbing to the drywall, paint, tile, wood trim, windows, and the roof has been renovated. I installed all high efficient appliances, -washer/dryer, furnace, water on demand hot water tank, fridge and gas stove. I kept the original hard wood floors.
ALL YEAR AROUND
