About John McLeod

Cathryn and I married ten years ago, residing in Asheville NC, where I have my business. We love our second home in Sapphire Village, where we stay as often as possible. When 'on island' we attend St Thomas Community Baptist Church (directly across the street from Sugar Bay Resort), rise early to enjoy the beach and pool, dine very well, and continuously marvel at the outrageous view.

We bought this Studio to share with family and friends. When 'on island,' we love meeting locals and soaking up the lovely Caribbean accent! Everyone is so friendly and ready to help you find your way around. I like to do my walking, jogging and swimming soon after dawn, and Cathryn loves to meet friends and shop in Red Hook. We both enjoy photography excursions to St John, Tortola and Virgin Gorda. Bring your passport for travels to the British Virgin Islands. Meet your neighbors around the pool and at Sapphire Grill. We know you'll love Sapphire as much as we do.

What makes this studio unique

Outrageously beautiful view, quick access to Sapphire Beach, secure gated community with two pools maintained daily. We have on site condo property management, and a dedicated crew that maintains the Caribbean landscaping. Easy access to beaches, shopping and restaurants around the island. Hop on a Safari (an open-air taxi) at the entrance to the Village for a dollar ride to Red Hook, or Tutu Park Mall for all your provisions at KMart and Plaza Extra, new Walgreen's pharmacy grocery. Another grocery store is Food Mart less than a ten minute drive. Two dollars will buy your hilly ride to Charlotte Amalie - the heart of town on colorful St Thomas - gateway to all the tourist attractions dangles before you. Sapphire Marina offers day sailing (we can personally recommend the 'Northwind'), jet-skiing, deep-sea fishing and sunset tours. The dive shop on Sapphire Beach rents lounge chairs, or take the ones we provide, snorkel equipment and kayaks. Hamburgers, fries and drinks from Sapphire Bar & Grill at the beach or from VI Slice next to the pool! Your Studio balcony faces northeast, so it's always draped with pleasing indirect sunlight... perfect for morning coffees, watching seagulls and sailboats glide gracefully over clear blue waters, and stunning Caribbean sunsets. Quite often you can hear the wind whistling low through sailboat masts in the marina. This is the most attractive Studio in all of Sapphire Village: uncluttered, clean, fresh... 'easy on the eyes.' You might not want to leave!

This unit has everything you need for a great vacation and the owners are very attentive. Unit is perfect for one or two people - I stayed two weeks. Safe place, many owners live in the complex. This updated unit is located on the top floor (one flight of stairs) of the Dominica building which is on the Sapphire Marina. You can take day trips to other islands via several of these boats.The pool and grill/bar is adjacent to the building. The balcony overlooks the Marina and has very nice patio furniture - not plastic. Nicely furnished, queen bed, 2 person dinette table, a large flat screen television, DVD player, fully stocked kitchenette, beach chairs, beach towels, cooler, snorkeling gear and free Wi-Fi. Also, it was nice to have items stocked upon arrival to get you started such as coffee filters, soap, sunscreen, toilet paper, etc. The office with laundry is steps away. Parking is conveniently in front of building. You're a short walk from Sapphire Beach. You're just minutes from Red Hook via taxi (10-15 min walk) where there's everything from shopping, restaurants, bars, and you can get the ferry to St. John which is a must!

Perfection!

We had a wonderful time on the island and thoroughly enjoyed this studio condo. It was perfect for our needs. The view is beautiful and Sapphire Beach was spectacular. Red Hook is close enough to catch the ferry, get groceries, or enjoy meals out. It is also close to other great beaches. We were also able to take advantage of the on-site pool restaurant, Slice, which is reasonably priced and serves great food. We also enjoyed using the outdoor BBQ available to Sapphire Village residents. John and Cathryn prepared a great reference book for help and advice for transportation, activities, local vendors and restaurants, etc. The condo was stocked with all the beach essentials - towels, chairs, ice chest, snorkel & fins, etc. We will return!

Very nice and convenient!

We had an amazing experience and I can't recommend this property, and the owners, enough. The property is in an incredibly convenient location near Red Hook. Adjacent to the condo is a marina with fun, affordable charters within a 2 minute walk from the front door, and just walk up the hill to a 5 minute safari truck ride into Red Hook where you can take the ferry to Saint John. Red Hook also has some very good restaurants, we particularly recommend Fish Tails and The Tap and Still. Past the marina is Sapphire Beach (a 4 minute walk from the condo), with great swimming and snorkeling.

The condo is very comfortable, well equipped, and spacious for an efficiency. John has done a wonderful job of outfitting the condo with the items travelers would need on a beach vacation, particularly with coolers, beach chairs, and towels. There are plenty of kitchen utensils and appliances for cooking if you don't want to have to pay to eat out for every meal.

Once again, we highly recommend the property and its owners.

Ten days in paradise!

First of all, I can’t say enough good things about the hospitality of John McLeod. As I flew to St. Thomas on August 8, the day Delta Airlines had their worldwide outage, my two flights were both delayed by several hours. I didn’t arrive at Sapphire Village until 9:00 pm. After a day of rough travel, I was pleasantly surprised to find that John had stocked the kitchen with breakfast goodies as he knew I would arrive too late in the day to grocery shop.

Unit 182 in the Domenica Building has everything anyone could want or need for their vacation; a spectacular view from the balcony, a beautiful pool nearby, and a gorgeous beach for those who want to snorkel the reef or just enjoy the water. As chaise lounges are no longer for rent on the beach, the unit has two beach chairs for your use. The unit is on the third floor but with only one flight of stairs.

The kitchen is stocked with all the necessary appliances; the bed is comfortable; and, it is only a 5-10 minute walk to the beach. Beach towels are even provided.

A car is not necessary unless you plan to drive the island. You can take the safari bus for $1 to downtown, or a taxi ride to Red Hook is only $5.00.

As a fish lover, I got my fill at these Red Hook restaurants: Pesce’s, Fish Tails, and Molly Molone’s. Had some delicious grilled grouper and mahi mahi. For food shopping, there is Moe’s Market (formerly Marina Market) which has a large selection, a wine department, and an excellent salad bar. Prices are high compared to the States, but you have to remember everything is shipped in.

A return trip to St. Thomas is a must and I highly recommend staying at John McLeod’s Unit 182 in the Domenica Building.

Sapphire Village Studio - Great location and views

This unit has everything you need for a great vacation and it is managed by the owners for a personal touch. The housekeeper M. heard me talking to my neighboors at the pool about the door knob sticking and the A/C not cooling well and she sent R. right over to look at it - they are not on island time. I had a Wi-fi issue during my stay which the owners resolved promptly. Unit is perfect for one or two people - I stayed two weeks and was able to work a bit since the unit does not share Wi-fi. The complex is safe, with security patrol at night - many owners live in the complex. This updated unit is located on the top floor (one flight of stairs) of the Dominica building which is on the Sapphire Marina, so the views are fabulous! You can take day trips to other islands via several of the marina boats. The balcony overlooks the Marina and has very nice patio furniture - not plastic. Unit is nicely furnished, queen bed, 2 person dinette table, a large flat screen television, DVD player, fully stocked kitchenette, beach chairs, beach towels, small cooler, snorkeling gear and free Wi-Fi (many units charge extra). Amazing View

This condo is in the perfect location. Watch boats in and out of marina, easy walk to beach, right near pool and restaurant. Apartment was very clean and had everything one needs for a great stay. Owners answered all questions very quickly. I liked Sapphire village better than Sapphire Beach resort. SBR was very unkept, pool area was gross. SV was very well kept and had constant workers and groundskeepers to make it look awesome. Thanks for sharing your amazing condo with us!

Location, location, location! 1 minute walk to laundry, 1.5 minutes to pool, 2 minute drive to Red Hook (restaurants/bars, Ferry Terminal, 3 minutes to marina, 4 minutes to Sapphire beach, 6 minutes to Coki beach and Coral World, 8 minutes to Tutu Park Mall (KMart and Grocery), 25 minutes to Charlotte Amalie (Shopping, Havensight Mall, restaurants, Yacht Haven Grande for upscale shopping and more restaurants, another 5 minutes to Frenchtown.
