About Kristen Kempt

Mom, teacher, world traveler, settled in Tahoe for the great lifestyle and peaceful woods. Our family made Talmont our vacation home for many years before we made the permanent move to Tahoe.

Now years later and 2 rentals, busy life has led us to look for help. Kristen began working for us the summer of 2013 managing our properties.

We want to share the incredible relaxation and fun of Tahoe's Best Shore -the West Shore- with other families.

Kristen Kempt purchased this house in 2013

Why Kristen Kempt chose Tahoe City

We still live close by in Talmont because it is a wonderful neighborhood inhabited by full and part-time residents. Paige Meadows provides access to miles of hiking/biking trails, including access to Tahoe City, the peaks of Alpine Meadows and the Tahoe Rim Trail. Talmont residents are fun, easy-going and friendly people, happy to give you advice and directions or just chat about the flowers in the meadow.

What makes this house unique

This home has a quiet backyard with a cozy great room for hours of dining and socializing with friends. There is close and easy access to Paige Meadows where you can find hiking, biking, snowshoeing and X/C skiing.

Like staying in a tree house. Quiet and private.

  • 4 of 5

The four of us (family of 3 and daughter's friend) had a wonderful week. The house is nicely set-up and equipped. Very easy to stay in. The living area is on the upper floor, with a huge front deck and big back deck with jacuzzi, well above ground level. Like staying in a treehouse, with plenty of quiet and privacy. Loved the morning light. Two car garage for bikes and toys. Nice neighborhood. Ready access to Paige Meadows trails for hiking, running, and mountain biking. Friendly, helpful manager who knows the area well. Very clean. Secure. We were grateful for such a nice place and would love to return. Just up the hill from Sunnyside Resort. The nearby Tahoe Park HOA Beach is really nice and a big plus. We loved early morning water skiing at the High Sierra Water Ski School, followed by a trip to the Tahoe House to replace any lost calories. By mid-morning, every day was a great one. Then on to more adventure!

Owner's Response: We love how you referred to the cabin as a treehouse! It really does give you that feel being up on the decks enjoying the view. Happy to hear you were able to enjoy Tahoe by boat. It is really a wonderful experience to be on the water, especially those early morning runs! Thanks for taking great care of the cabin and keep us in mind for your future visits. Take care Thomas.

Where do you live?

Very clean and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

We had two children ages 4 and 2 that really enjoyed the bunk room. There were so many toys and books that we didn't need to bring any with us. This was one of the cleanest places we have stayed. The beds were all very comfortable and the entire house is very kid friendly. They had baby gates, a pack'n'play and a highchair. The decks were very nice to relax on and it was so peaceful and quiet. We had some really great sandwiches and some pizzas from the West Shore Market and Deli which was very close by. We will remember this place the next time we want to stay on the west side of Lake Tahoe.

Owner's Response: Thank you Jeromie for the review. We are happy to be able to provide a comfortable place for families to enjoy Tahoe. Glad all our amenities worked well with your little ones. West Shore Market does have some great food and it's nice how close it is to the house. Thanks again and hope to see you in the future!

Great week! Thank you.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The place was super clean and well maintained. The instructions to and about the property were very helpful. We would highly encourage true snow winter tires if staying in the winter as the hills to the house are quite steep.

We would highly recommend this property to others!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review Ken! We are really glad you enjoyed your stay. You are very right! The Talmont hill is quite a steep one and snow tires or chains are highly recommended for guests during winter stays. Thank you for taking wonderful care of the house. We hope to see you again in the future!

Perfect vacation home

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time staying at this house. Our family is so comfortable in this home, we love the kitchen, the balcony and the huge kitchen table which is great for big family dinners. The house is well decorated and stocked full of amenities. Having access to the Tahoe park also is a huge bonus for us. We love that the hot tub was moved to the upstairs deck, we felt safer with the kids and used it way more this trip. The owners truly want your vacation to be comfortable and cozy. With a sweet welcome basket and all! We would love (and plan) to rent this place every year!

Week of July 4th at Mountain Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This property was beautiful and spacious for a group of 4 and our Labrador, and could have easily accommodated a couple of kids if needed (third bedroom includes sturdy bunk beds and plenty of toys). The location was great, quiet, but close enough to the lake to fully enjoy it. My only suggestion to any future guests is if you tend to get hot while sleeping, you may want to bring a small fan for your bedroom as there are not ceiling fans on the lower level. I'm sure this isn't any issue outside the months of June-August, but it did feel a little stuffy at night even with the windows cracked (which we were nervous about, because well, BEARS - but thanks to our dog who growls at any unfamiliar noise, it was fine). Nothing a small fan couldn't fix though and certainly didn't impact our stay in the least. We found that slightly cracking the dining room upstairs window increased the airflow through the lower bedroom windows. Side note: There was a standing floor fan in the garage, but we weren't able to get it working. The photos of the house are great, but it's definitely nicer in person - very tastefully decorated to give it a real

Tahoe vibe. We spent a lot of time in Tahoe City and on the HOA beach. We enjoyed eating at the Sunnyside restaurant as well as Rosie's in Tahoe City, and The Bagelry for breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back when we get the chance. I imagine this property is beautiful in the winter!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the nice thoughts about the house and decor Erin. It was good to hear you enjoyed your stay at the Mountain Retreat and around Tahoe. We're sorry to hear about the temperatures in the house. I do remember that week as being extremely hot, even for Tahoe. If we had known the fan was broken, I could have brought a new one over asap. It does work best to cool down the house in the evening by opening windows and letting in the breeze. We did go ahead and purchased 2 new fans for the house. Winter is a beautiful time in Tahoe and the Mountain Retreat is very comfortable during stormy weather. We hope you consider another stay with us in the future. Thanks again for your thoughts!
