Come share our beautiful craftsman timber frame home. The soaring great room features a granite stone fireplace, stainless steel kitchen, Wifi and Bluray, a love seat by the fire, and recliners with bookcases. There are three bedrooms, a master on main, and two guest rooms upstairs, in addition to a pullout sofa in the great room. We have pillow-top mattress covers, and high quality linens. The waterfall is audible from the master suite, and the private gas fireplace is cozy in the winter.

Upstairs find a spacious bunk room that sleeps three with room for more on air mattresses, a guest room with a queen sized bed, and a full bath. The BRAND NEW pullout sofa in the Great Room is perfect for teens. Outside grill out on the deck, or just nap in the hammock.

Specific amenities include central air and heat, ceiling fans throughout, stainless steel kitchen appliances, gas grill, outdoor seating, washer/dryer, good cellphone reception, wi-fi, a Bluray player, a large flat parking pad, and a second deck above the creek near the waterfall. Timbered steps lead down fern strewn slopes to the National Forest that adjoins the lot.

We have hosted wedding parties, book clubs, family getaways, book clubs, Little League teams, romantic getaways, even guests who have stayed a month or more!

Our guests horseback ride, whitewater raft, zipline, browse, work puzzles, cook amazing meals, boat and swim in Lake Burton, and explore the forests and waterfalls adjacent to the property. About Melissa Smith

The custom timber framed home was built by the Smith family in Tucker, Ga and it has been their pleasure to share the beauty of both its' craftsmanship and location. Their children plan to enjoy it for years to come, and we love sharing it with family and friends.

Melissa Smith purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Melissa Smith chose North Georgia Mountains

Private and secluded handcrafted custom timberframe home nestled in forest, yet with quick access to mountain adventures. Five acre lot, with no visible neighbors. Adjoins National Forest, yet easy to access via paved driveway off a private road. The Lake Burton area caters to the wealthy -- stay in our house with all the amentities for a fraction of the cost of lakefront properties. You can have your boat on the water in no time with the public ramp just five miles away on Plum Orchard Road. On our property enjoy trail heads to the Tallulah River and Wildlife Management Area.

We are not a cookie cutter development. Private waterfall and deck on creek. Fly fishing and lake fun five minutes away. Camp High Harbour is next door. Marina rentals, horseback, ziplining are all within easy reach. Dilliard House and stables, Highlands, NC and Helen, GA are all an hour or less away. Sautee River Pottery is close by as is the Tallulah River Gorge and it crystal blue pools. Great kitchen for special vacation meals and restaurants in Clayton for when you don't want to cook.

What makes this cabin unique

Jumping off point for many options to enjoy the northeast Georgia mountains. Small waterfall on property. Private high quality handcrafted home. Guests tell us the warmth and intimacy of the home is unique. It was built by a backpacking homebuilder with attention to craftmanship, whose wife is a biologist interested in enjoying and preserving wildlife. The timber and granite is all locally sourced. The decor is personal, not generic. It is a place to build memories, and then return and build more. It is intimate yet accessible. Guests tend to have adventures, then retreat to our wooded seclusion to reccharge before setting forth for another adventure.

Details: Two hours will get you here from four states, not including Georgia. Atlanta is a also two hours away. Five miles from front door to the Tallulah River boat access to Lake Burton. Right next door to best fly fishing in Georgia. Ten miles to Clayton Main Street folk art gallery, and a good private book store. Many nearby venues for hiking, dining and horseback riding.

A sweet stay in the woods

  • 5 of 5

We had an outstanding stay, the house was just a dream. Your directions and guest information were very helpful and easy to follow. I know it is a beautiful spot in the fall surrounded by the hardwoods. I would highly recommend someone staying in your house.

Beautiful Secluded Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year to vacation in this beautiful secluded cabin. The cabin is always clean, Melissa is very quick to answer questions, and the leaving checklist is easy to complete. We spent the majority of our time between the covered back deck and the nearby Tallulah River Road. We drove this winding beautiful road that follows the river all the way to North Carolina. Our kids played in the river picking up rocks, building dams, and floating on inter tubes. A great vacation away from cell phones and computers! My only complaint would be the condition of the sleeper sofa, where my daughter was supposed to sleep. The frame was broken and listing down on one end, so we ended up taking the mattress off and putting it on the floor. Overall, though, it's a great place to vacation and we enjoy returning year after year.

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is so amazing! It's very roomy and well stocked with towels and blankets, books, grill, jet bathtub, etc! We had a large party with us and Melissa was very , accommodating! There is a nice hammock on the wrap around porch and walkway that leads down to a neat little stream!! This house was so cute and comfy cozy! I would highly recommend this remote cabin! It has renewed my husbands and I's dream of one day owning a log cabin! Melissa is awesome! Very helpful and informative. Thanks Melissa!

Beautiful custom cabin.

  • 5 of 5

So relaxing. Peaceful, quiet location. My blood pressure probably dropped to normal. In the time I stayed here I got to know several of my neighbors

who were all great people. Felt like I had been living here forever. The last day I stayed here, a large doe crossed in front of me just before going up the blacktop driveway. Did not want to leave even after a months stay here. Wow, what a way to start my retirement. I would highly recommend Melissa's Timber Frame home. Thanks for sharing Melissa.

Nice family get away home.

  • 5 of 5

We live in Florida but we love the mountains. This home is located in a beautiful area not far from town and close to lots of beautiful sightseeing. Tallulah River really is one block away and so pretty! Hemlock Falls is less then 15 minutes. But you also have your own creek right on the property!

The house had everything that we needed and was very spacious and comfortable. Melissa is very prompt in answering questions and very helpful.

You won't be disappointed with this home. We will definitely look to book this one again.

Christmas Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here over Christmas. The owner was very easy to get in touch with and responded to all questions. The cabin was beautiful, it had more amenities for guests than some homes we have stayed in through VRBO. The clean up list was easy enough. Clayton is a beautiful area with lots to do but we didn't venture into town because we were there to celebrate Christmas and also because most places were closed anyway. The master bath is nice as is the main part of the home, we enjoyed having the covered deck because it rained our entire stay. The fireplace in the master is a nice touch too. My only recommendation is it would have been nice to have some instructions on how to use Netflix, we have had it in our own home before but if you aren't familiar with someone else's set up and multiple remotes it can be confusing. We never figured it out but there are some movies so we ended up watching a few of those. Other than the Netflix issue we had a great time and would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: So glad you have a great time! On the Netflix issue, it is easiest to use the WiFi connection to google the series of commands you have to do with the Sony remote. I usually let the teens handle it! But I will try and work out written instructions in the future.

The king of Southern family dining, the Dillard House is just up the road. Horseback riding is offered here as well as near the Tallulah Gorge park. Scaly Mountain snow tubing is close by as is the town of Highlands, NC. State parks near you are Black Rock Mountain, Mocassin Creek (see the nearby fish hatchery), and the Tallulah River Gorge. The Foxfire museum of Appalachian culture is on the road to Dillard. Want to boat? Use our canoe or rent a pontoon boat from the nearby marina.
