We had a wonderful visit to Memory Mountain! The property was beautiful, the accommodations were nice, Steve Powell gave an excellent tour of his private barn, and Lobo, the wolf, was a huge hit! We had a very special, joyful, and memorable wedding!
This cabin is absolutely beautiful! Our families enjoyed plenty of room while staying in this cabin over our wedding weekend. The kids loved playing and sleeping in the loft area. The kitchen was great for making a large breakfast for family and the wedding party. Everyone enjoyed being so close to the lake and fishing. The porches were prefect for our rehearsal dinner. There was more than enough room to set up a buffet and seat more than 50 people. At night the fire pit was perfect for marshmallows and s'mores. Steve and Joy were wonderful!
The venue was also amazing! Steve strived to make our day magical and it was. We could not have asked for anything more. He went above and beyond to make sure that everything was just how we had envisioned it. He was so easy to work with. He also gave us great ideas on things that we had not thought about. This was very helpful. It made our day run so smooth and helped to make the day beautiful! He even built a beautiful entry way to the ceremony area before our rehearsal dinner. The set up of the barn was wonderful. We loved having the kitchen in the back of the barn with the doors to block it off. The porch was a great place for our guest to enjoy a glass of sweet tea and a breeze. Another plus was that there were so many places on the property to take pictures. Our wedding party was able to drive around and get pictures in multiple places.
Memory Mountain was AMAZING!! I couldn't imagine getting married anywhere else! We have already recommended this venue to several friends!
There are so many things to say about Memory Mountain at Wolf Laurel as a whole, let alone this particular listing on the property. We held our wedding here and our guests occupied all five cabins that Steve and Joy Powell have listed here on VRBO. The Cabins themselves are gorgeous, every one we visited was grander than the next. They are furnished well, have plenty of supplies for cooking and cleaning (to make your stay mostly worry-free!) and the beds were actually really comfortable! I cannot say enough good things about Steve and how he accommodated every request we had to make the wedding venue absolutely perfect and ensure our guests had a wonderful stay. For the price per cabin, you really cannot find a better deal. Memory Mountain at Wolf Laurel is quiet, serene, and simply breath-taking.
Now, with all of this being said, a word to the wise: this is a very do-it-yourself vacation or venue. If you're not willing to set up your space (i.e. bringing your own food to cook; moving indoor and/or outdoor furniture to create the perfect event space) then this place is not for you! If you have a vision, help from others staying on site, and time, then do yourself a huge favor and BOOK. You won't regret it. I only wish we could have spent more time here - three nights simply wasn't enough to enjoy everything (hiking, fishing, swimming, etc) that this amazing place has to offer!
Thank you Steve and Joy!

I have dreamed of a beautiful outdoor wedding since I was a little girl. This location was the best place to have it. It rained a little but held off until after the ceremony and pictures. I could not have asked for a better place to have my wedding! It was everything I wanted and more. It sleeps so many people and was so relaxing plus having the reception site right at the same place was so convenient. My photographer loved all the sites you were able to take pictures at. If your thinking about having a wedding here just go ahead and book you won't be sorry.
This was our first visit to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Steve's property was a great way to experience it. The lodge was beautiful and Steve and Joy went out of their way to welcome us and make sure we enjoyed the property and the surrounding recreational areas. We felt like family rather than just guests. We were there to celebrate our Granddaughter's high school graduation, and we took full advantage of the river rafting, zip lining, and hiking venues in the near area. While the cabin was much larger than we needed for just three people, we enjoyed the large living spaces in the lodge and the great outdoor areas for campfires, fishing, horseshoes, short walks, and especially quiet morning coffee in the gazebo by the pond! It's now on my list as a great place for a future family reunion.
I haven't had a more pleasant stay with all of my friends (and our dogs!) with a more pleasant host in a very long time. Our privacy was respected, our needs immediately fulfilled, and our time was unforgettable. I booked all 5 cabins with Steve for a couple's retreat amongst friends at University. From the very beginning Steve was accommodating–suggesting activities, making our number of guests fit in the cabins, etc.–and it only got better from there. I highly recommend the cabins for any large (or small) group looking for a getaway in the beautiful mountains.
