About Colin Thomas

I am a military officer and pilot as well as a real estate professional. I have extensive travel experience and understand the nuances associated with creating a comfortable and memorable experience in our nation's capitol.

I am also a Washingtonian and live nearby. I have a very in depth knowledge of all that Washington DC has to offer and am happy to provide any recommendations to make your stay more enjoyable.

Why Colin Thomas chose Eastern Market

Since being built in 1880 numerous Senators, Congressmen, artists, and academics have all resided at what is now Hill Flats.

The building was previously used as a lecture hall and residence for scholars conducting research at the Library of Congress which is across the street.

Due to the buildings immediate proximity to national monuments, the National Park Service and Washington DC has designated Hill Flats a Historic building and has registered it under the Capitol Overlay and Fine Arts District. This designation ensures that all preservation is conducted under the direction of the Architect of the Capitol.

Hill Flats has been meticulously preserved while ensuring that it meets modern comforts.

If you are looking for character and historic charm there is no substitute.

No better location for exploring DC!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with three children and we all enjoyed the space and the convenience of this property. It was clean and had what we needed and we would not hesitate to stay again!

Almost Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the location of this apartment. We were to walk to most of the places we were interested in seeing. The owners were very attentive and quick to respond to questions during the booking phase and once we were in Washington DC. In addition there was numerous restaurants within a very short walk to grab a quick bit. My only complaint was that water was really cold. We took cold showers for our entire stay and I mean cold. Overall, we were very happy with apartment and would book again with this owner.

Owner's Response: Kathy, thank you for the kind review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay. We are sorry to hear about the showers. We have not had any other guests report having a shower issues. Had you reported it, I am sure our team could have remedied the issue immediately! Thanks again for the review and we hope you stay again!

Convenient Location

  • 4 of 5

We had this place for a couple of nights, during a family vacation. The place itself is very clean and well-appointed. A little on the pricey side, but very convenient access to the Capitol (~1.5 blocks), with a well-stocked convenience store nearby (~.5 blocks). Parking works, if you can get onsite parking (there's only one spot and its tight). Otherwise, parking is pretty awful. Our access code didn't work, on arrival. This was initially addressed by provision of an alternative number to call. Whoever had that number did not respond until around noon the next day. I say this, because I'm sure the problem can be easily remedied, but after a long day of travel from the west coast, we were in no mood for delays. Fortunately, the owner had been more responsive and did get us in after an hour or so. I will say that, once in, this provided a great 'home base,' for our short D.C. stay.

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at the Hills Flats! Location was fantastic...just 2 short blocks to the Capital!! We could easily walk or bike (safely, even with young kids) to all that Capital Hill has to offer. It rained one day, so we just walked a block to Pennsylvania Ave. and picked up the Metrobus which brought us to the mall in less than five minutes. We also enjoyed the restaurant offerings on Pennsylvania Ave. The neighborhood is so quaint and seems very safe.

The apartment itself was spacious, quiet, and had everything we needed.

Gene always responded quickly and answered all our questions.

Would recommend the Hills Flats to anyone interested in seeing the Capital buildings, mall and museums on their visit to DC!

Beautiful, clean and close to government

  • 5 of 5

Loved this place. It was right behind the Supreme Court and we were able to walk to most of our destinations. The place was comfy and very clean. The only constructive feedback I would give is it would have been nice to have some cooking oil, and a few more cooking supplies. But we only ate breakfast there so it wasn't a big deal for us. Also, the unit above ours (we were in unit 1) needed more rugs as people walking above us (a person in high heels) woke us up several times. If we return to DC we would definitely stay here again!
