About Marjan Kelsey

Greengate Ranch has a history dating back to the 1800’s as a dairy farm, but is best known for its rise to international acclaim under the ownership of Jay and Dorothy Stream, who occupied the ranch from the 1950’s until 2012. The Streams, often in partnership with Jay’s client, the legendary Wayne Newton, bred world class Arabian horses after turning this majestic piece of land into a top notch horse facility. Jay Stream was a Past President of the International Arabian Horse Association (IAHA), inspired the Arabian Horse Society and was President Emeritus of the World Arabian Horse Organization (WAHO), having served as President for 31 years. His international recognition popularized the ranch as it became home to world class Arabian events and extravagant galas and auctions attended by celebrities, royalty and luminaries from the Middle East who traveled half way across the globe to visit Greengate Ranch.

Jay Stream has since passed away and Dorothy Stream moved to Arizona. The property and all of its facilities had fallen on hard times and were in need of a substantial restoration project. A local family purchased the property in July of 2012 and immediately went to work restoring the grounds and structures to their previous grandeur. Virtually every structure, pasture, fence, and dwelling has been completely overhauled. A 75 acre vineyard are the latest additions to the ranch. The owners take great pride in restoring this once proud property that sits at the gateway to historic Edna Valley. We aim to provide the premier ranch and vineyard experience in California.

We hope to see you at the Ranch soon!

Our stay here was wonderful. Here to celebrate two graduates, the staff was amazing and we even had the chance to ride horses on the property. We all hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did here.

Celebrate the "SLO" life and enjoy this property as much as we did.

Perfect from beginning to end

  • 5 of 5

We used this house for clients that were coming in from out of town. Everything went smoothly from my initial interaction with Marjan to the departure of all guests. The clients enjoyed the house and location so much they chose to stay in on the first night and make dinner in the house rather than eat out. I highly recommend the Greengate Farm experience. The staff is extremely friendly.

visit for Graduation

  • 5 of 5

The Carriage House and surroundings were a wonderful place to celebrate Graduation. We will return

for a more relaxing stay the next time, with a little more "leisure time" to enjoy all there is to do around the beautiful ranch and the surrounding area. As it was we managed to fit in a great celebratory gathering thanks to all the accoutrements @ the Carriage House kitchen, hiking, wine tasting, visits to SLO, and great evenings around the firepit. A memorable visit! Special thanks to Sarah and Alicia!

First visit to SLO, will not be our last!

  • 5 of 5

The beauty of the ranch/carriage house and surrounding landscape is only surpassed by the warmth and genuine hospitality of our hostess and her family. We found the house in immaculate condition upon arrival, and the bedrooms are comfortable and cozy with classic modern bathrooms with retro ranch style. The use of white "subway" tile throughout kitchen and bath was very appealing to us and provides such a visually striking look. The gourmet kitchen is outfitted to suit the foodies in your group, and the bbq grill was perfect for our Saturday night grill-party (along with a warm glowing fire-pit out front). Generally a great value, fun experience (the women-folk went horseback riding on the ranch and through the vineyards while the men golfed nearby) and we look forward to visiting again, hopefully gathering a larger group so that we can occupy the amazing big house just up the hill from the carriage house. Thanks again for an incredible vacation experience!

Perfect spot for a relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

The Carriage House is a great layout for a family or small group of friends. Open kitchen and living room, as well as accessible front (w/ fire pit) and back (w/ grill and dining furniture) patios. The surrounding scenery is beautiful - vineyards, farm animals, etc. The property is right on the San Luis Obispo wine trail and close to both Paso Robles and Santa Barbara wine areas! A beautiful place to bike and run. Also a great jumping off point for Central Coast attractions from Hearst Castle to Solvang. All the conveniences of SLO are nearby as well, including Whole Foods. I wouldn't recommend for travelers w/o a car or those w/ troublesome allergies.

Great Place in SLO Wine Country

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Greengate Ranch for Memorial Day weekend. The Carriage House is a beautiful modern ranch house just built in 2013 and very well appointed. They also have a larger 5 bedroom house just being completed, and wedding facilities.

The location was great, right in the middle of SLO wine country, yet still just a short drive to town. We walked to Claiborn and Churchill Winery across the street and Sextant which is just down the street.

The Carriage House was also a great value, with 3 couples staying it was about the price of the upper end chain hotels in town, but a great place to gather with friends. The Ranch itself is a busy working horse ranch, so there are horses right outside the house, very neat.

Truly a beautiful place

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Greengate's carriage house back in February. The house is really beautiful, has many extras and is very comfortable. We have rented homes on the central coast for many years, and this rental's decor and finishes beats any other home we've ever rented. Based on the carriage house, I would rent any home they own.

My 12 year old horse crazy daughter celebrated her birthday while we were there. She hung around with the Sticklers, who train the horses. She had SO MUCH FUN. As she's been riding for years, she was able to really help with the horses. There was even a mare and foal right outside the back door. The foal was very friendly and would play with my daughter, prancing and running back and forth together. My daughter now wants to work for the Sticklers when she's older. :).
