About Jim

Our Family fell in love with Gatlinburg, The Great Smoky Mountain National Park, and surrounding areas, 3 years ago on our first vacation trip to the Smokies. On our 3rd vacation we came across our new found home OWL PINE CHALET, which has a 'One of a Kind' View and Bavarian Style House. Our Original plan was to purchase a house,in Gatlinburg, 8 years down the road, with the intention of retiring and moving down full time.

Owl Pine Chalet is that exceptional property. The chances of a house like this making its way onto the Real Estate Market is Rare. Normally Houses like this are passed on,within a family, from Generations to Generation.

Our family enjoys all Outdoor Activity, such as Hiking, Biking, Kayaking, Mountain Climbing, Fishing, Golf, Tennis... The Smokies and Chalet Village have it all. And with the 3 club Houses on Ski Mountain we have the pools and Tennis courts for our and our guests use and enjoyment.

Picking the Name: Owl Pine Chalet

Just the setting alone reminds us of the Bavarian Alps, in the Summer and Winter (not as much snow and shorter winter season). The house architecture was designed in the style of a Bavarian or Swiss Alps House. Names such as Apline Chalet, Alps Hause, Chalet Edelweiss...were nice names that would fit, but these were too frequently used, so we did a play on words and that's how we came up with 'Owl Pine Chalet'.

Jim purchased this chalet in 2012

Why Jim chose Gatlinburg

The following are the most important things that attracted us to the property and it's location:

1) Parking - needed a place to park that was not off street and did not require 4 wheel drive to go up or down. This house is level with the road, which is not a steep road.

2) One Step up to the Main Deck of House from Parking Area.

3) View The View is one of the biggest in my opinion. The view position of the house is perfect and close to Mt Leconte. In the fall, I even get a partial city view.

4) Access to 3 Club Houses on the mountain, all with Pools and 2 with tennis courts and indoor game rooms.

5) Location to Key Roads and Activities. Location to the National Park was important and close proximity to Ober Gatlinburg (1 mile) as well as the City of Gatlinburg (1.5 miles).

Great home with everything six people needed! Location is excellent!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely great time at Owl Pine Chalet! The house has a gorgeous view from the deck! We loved the porch swing and the hot tub. It's location allows for easy access to the National Park without having to go through Gatlinburg. But, when you want to go to the main strip, it is only a few minutes away. Beds were great, kitchen is perfect for a week in a cabin and our kids enjoyed the pool table. We hope to come back in the future! We can't complain about a thing!!!

We didn't want to leave!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures on VRBO don't really do enough justice to the view of Mt. LeConte when you see it as you pull into the driveway. It's just amazing. The chalet is clean and stocked with all of the cooking implements you could need to cook in for the week, of which we took full advantage. A washer and dryer are there if you need them. There are even books and games throughout the cabin. The beds are comfortable. My husband and kids enjoyed the pool table and the hot tub. I enjoyed reading on each of the 3 decks. Nothing like sipping your coffee on the porch swing while looking out at the mountains and the Ober Gatlinburg trams. The owner, Jim, is wonderful to work with and gives great recommendations of what to check out in Gatlinburg and in the National Park. The chalet is in the mountains above Gatlinburg, and Jim gives instructions of the best ways to get on and off the mountain, which I very much appreciated because both Garmin GPS and Google Maps recommended ways he said were not ideal. (He's right!) The driveway for the chalet is also spacious and easy to get into, unlike some of the other chalets up there. When we come back to Gatlinburg, Owl Pine Chalet is the only place we will consider staying. It was a perfect home away from home for our family.

Lovely home

  • 5 of 5

The Owl Pine chalet provided perfect accommodations for our family. The view is better than advertised. The kitchen supplies are sufficient for cooking for a large family and having the laundry capabilities is a perk. During the week of 6/17/17-6/24/17 we had 7 bears visit the property. They kept there distance without any aggression. The roadways up the mountain are a little intimidating however manageable. We witnessed several compact cars make it without difficulty while raining. I recommend this rental. Lastly, The owner is polite and professional!

Comfortable, clean with the BEST view of the Smokies(Mt. LeConte).

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable, clean with the BEST view of the Smokies(Mt. LeConte). Wonderful location too. The kitchen is so well stocked, made dining in for breakfast and lunch a breeze for our group. The owner left good info on things to do, maps, restaurant recon, etc. Can't wait to stay here again!
