About Jim

Our Family fell in love with Gatlinburg, The Great Smoky Mountain National Park, and surrounding areas, 3 years ago on our first vacation trip to the Smokies. On our 3rd vacation we came across our new found home OWL PINE CHALET, which has a 'One of a Kind' View and Bavarian Style House. Our Original plan was to purchase a house,in Gatlinburg, 8 years down the road, with the intention of retiring and moving down full time.

Owl Pine Chalet is that exceptional property. The chances of a house like this making its way onto the Real Estate Market is Rare. Normally Houses like this are passed on,within a family, from Generations to Generation.

Our family enjoys all Outdoor Activity, such as Hiking, Biking, Kayaking, Mountain Climbing, Fishing, Golf, Tennis... The Smokies and Chalet Village have it all. And with the 3 club Houses on Ski Mountain we have the pools and Tennis courts for our and our guests use and enjoyment.

Picking the Name: Owl Pine Chalet

Just the setting alone reminds us of the Bavarian Alps, in the Summer and Winter (not as much snow and shorter winter season). The house architecture was designed in the style of a Bavarian or Swiss Alps House. Names such as Apline Chalet, Alps Hause, Chalet Edelweiss...were nice names that would fit, but these were too frequently used, so we did a play on words and that's how we came up with 'Owl Pine Chalet'.

Jim purchased this chalet in 2012

Why Jim chose Gatlinburg

The following are the most important things that attracted us to the property and it's location:

1) Parking - needed a place to park that was not off street and did not require 4 wheel drive to go up or down. This house is level with the road, which is not a steep road.

2. Steps to the house from Parking Area. Owl Pine Chalet has 1 step up from the Parking Area to the House front deck.

3) View The View is one of the biggest in my opinion. The view position of the house is perfect and close to Mt Leconte. In the fall, I even get a partial city view.

4) Access to 3 Club Houses on the mountain, all with Pools and 2 with tennis courts and indoor game rooms.

5) Location to Key Roads and Activities. Location to the National Park was important and close proximity to Ober Gatlinburg (1 mile) as well as the City of Gatlinburg (1.5 miles).

The Owl Pine Chalet

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the Owl Pine Chalet. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. Jim, the owner, was very helpful with information.

We hope to return some time later this year.

What a wonderful family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 7 spent 5 wonderful days at the Owl Pine Chalet. Everything was perfect. Mr. Jim was so easy to work with and provided all the information we needed to make our vacation great. The view from the balcony was awesome. We are planning another visit in June and will be staying here again. We did not see any bears but I am hoping to see one/some in June.

Loved the view!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Jim was amazing much more hands on then any other homeaway.com owner we have ever rented from. The place was clean and has everything you can think of. We forgot about a lighter for the fireplace and right on top of the fireplace was a lighter. Very close to Gatlinburg but we really didn't do the strip mostly hiked and enjoyed the hot tub while enjoying the amazing view.

great cabin

  • 5 of 5

this cabin was very nice and had an outstanding view of Mt LeConte. It was just my wife and I but there would have been plenty of room for our kids to come with us. the hot tub was the nicest we have seen. The back yard was fenced and would be nice for youngsters. The bed was very comfortable. The kitchen was better stocked than anywhere in the mountains and Jim was a pleasure the rent from. Great place and I will rent again soon hopefully.

The Chalet was a great fit for my family of 8. 6 adults and 2 babies. Very convenient location and parking was so easy to get in and out of the chalet. The view was spectacular and I plan to get this again.

Great Smoky Mountains Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful cabin with an incredible view and plenty of room for our family of 5. Owl Pine Chalet had all the comforts you could possibly need and was exactly as shown in the photos. It’s very close to town, but far enough to enjoy the quiet atmosphere.

We went skiing at Ober Gatlinburg rode the new Mountain Coaster, lots of fun. Another day, we drove through the National Forest to Clingsman Dome which had amazing views.

Overall, it was a wonderful mini-vacation. Will come back to the cabin again and definitely recommend! Thank you Jim for the great cabin and weekend!
