About the property

3 Bedrooms Plus Sleeping Loft, 3 1/2 Baths

Welcome to our beautiful newly constructed home near the peak of Spread Eagle Mountain. This property gets its name, 'Maple Grove', as it is located on the site of a family-owned maple syrup production business (commonly referred to as a 'sugarbush'), which has existed for six generations.

A quiet location on a private mountain road that is only minutes away from the small hamlet of Keene Valley, NY. This house has 3 bedrooms with 3 full baths plus a reading loft. The master suite has a king sized bed and full bath, one bedroom has a queen sized bed and a full bath and another bedroom has two twin beds and a full bath across the hall.

The living room/kitchen/dining area is an open concept design with plenty of windows for a full panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. Amenities in the kitchen include a refrigerator, range, microwave, dishwasher and breakfast bar area, a half bath and a washer and dryer.

Cable modem internet and large screen televisions with cable service are available free of charge when you are not too busy enjoying the outdoors.

Amazing views of the Adirondack High Peaks with many of the major trail heads to hike in the back yard.

The 1932 and 1980 Olympic host village of Lake Placid is 20 minutes away. See the many venues and stroll, shop and enjoy everything the Lake Placid area has to offer.

There are three championship quality golf courses in the immediate area, including Whiteface Mountain Club, two 18 hole courses at the Lake Placid Club and the Craig Wood Golf Club.

The 'sixth' great lake, Lake Champlain, is a short 45 minute drive away. The Canadian border and the extraordinary City of Montreal, Quebec are approximately 100 miles to the north.

'Maple Grove', with its rich history as a 'sugarbush', can be your base camp for hiking, rock climbing, skiing, sightseeing, golfing, fishing, boating or just relaxing in a quiet mountain setting.

About Becky or John Odell

John and Rebecca Odell live at the bottom of Spread Eagle Mountain, just minutes from Maple Grove Retreat. Becky is from Keene Valley and our three children were raised in this small community.

We have taken care of the seasonal homes of others for many years and decided to create our own special vacation retreat.

Becky or John Odell purchased this house in 2012

Why Becky or John Odell chose Keene Valley

This property can be traced back through Becky's family to the end of the Civil War. Levi Lamb walked back to the North Country to save money and bought large portions of land. Maple Grove Retreat is located on a small piece of this property. This is also where the family maple syrup sugarbush is located.

We had a wonderful long weekend in this cabin. Perfectly situated in the High Peaks region, the house is very well appointed with everything we needed for our family. Quiet and very comfortable, a place to discover :)

Fantastic in every way

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house! It's absolutely beautiful, in mint condition (we enjoyed the fresh scent of recently chopped wood every time we walked down the beautiful, wooden spiral staircase). It's located on a gravel road the climbs steeply into the woods, and it's wonderfully quiet and peaceful. The master suite couldn't be more comfortable, with its own bathroom and spacious, walk-in shower. The rest of the main floor is one continuous space -- well-stocked kitchen, dining area, lovely living room -- and it connects to the ample deck you can see in the picture. We didn't use the lower floor at all (there were only two of us), but it is spacious, with two extra bedrooms, and also very nice. We'd recommend this house for people of all ages, but anyone with toddlers would have to take extra care that they don't go up or down the spiral staircase unsupervised. We are a couple in our early sixties, and we did a lot of hiking, biking and canoeing, appreciating the proximity to trailheads, bike trails and lakes. We will definitely return, probably with friends or family to take advantage of all the bedrooms.

A Slice of Paradise !

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this Cabin. We can't think of anything we didn't like about it. My husband and I and 2 adult children enjoyed a 3 night / 4 day stay there. The place was immaculate. What we loved about it is it was so remote, quiet and peaceful. It was relatively close to Lake Placid and Saranac Lake as well.

The cabin contained every amenity I can think of. There was even a BBQ grill to use.

Our family thanks you for opening up your home on Home Away to guests !
