A beautiful 2 bed, 1 bath, top floor flat on 5th St in Historic Marcy-Holmes!
About The Brownes
Hello! We are a young family of three who relocated to Minneapolis in 2016. We both worked in the bike industry, in Marketing and Design, and moved to Minneapolis to explore new career and family opportunities. This city has not let us down! There are endless options here for work, family, arts, music, schooling, recreation and more; in our free time we, of course, love riding bikes, hiking, camping, drinking coffee, cooking, and spending time with our son and dog. We traveled with Airbnb both professionally and personally for years, and have loved hosting full-time, for the last 2 years in this great city. This charming, brick, historic house in Marcy-Holmes has become our home, and we are excited to share this city retreat with you.

Why The Brownes chose Marcy-Holmes
You won't find a better location than this to access downtown, U of M campus, a work conference, great restaurants, art, biking and more! The neighborhood of Marcy-Holmes is one of, if not THE most walkable neighborhood in the city. It's also the oldest neighborhood in the city; older than Minneapolis itself. Marcy-Holmes, and this charming, historic brick home will not disappoint. Our home is on 5th Street SE, between 5th and 6th Ave SE, just 3 blocks north of the iconic Stone Arch Bridge. We are on a one-way street with a bike lane in both directions and mature trees. The street and neighborhood are the perfect scale, quiet, and close to everything. We invite you to inquire, book and come see for yourself. Common distances from our home: - Stone Arch Bridge (0.5 Miles Southwest) - Downtown (2 Miles Southwest) - Uptown (5 Miles Southwest) - US Bank Stadium (1.4 Miles Southwest) - Target Field (2.5 Miles Southwest) - U of M Campus & TCF Bank Stadium (1.5 Miles Southeast) - Lake Harriet & Calhoun (7.5 Miles Southwest) - Boom Island (1.5 Miles Northwest) - Nicollet Island (1 Mile West) - Minnehaha Falls (8 Miles Southeast) - Walker Art Center (3 Miles Southwest) - Mill City Museum (1 Mile Southwest) - Guthrie Theater (1 Mile Southwest) - Airport (14 Miles Southeast)

Clean and tidy
Overall this flat was one of the cleanest and most well appointed places we have rented on VRBO. We loved the tiny espresso machine in the kitchen, wonderful espresso or americano. On the down side the bed was too soft for our comfort. We didn’t mind taking our shoes off before entering the flat. However we thought taking our shoes off at the bottom of the stairs was asking too much and potentially unsafe. Neighborhood lovely and close to amenities as advertised. Thank you.
Absolutely wonderful stay in this lovely home.
Thank you Barbara. You and your family are welcome here anytime.
Excellent location, clean, incredibly responsive and accommodating hosts
This space is bright, clean and in a beautiful, vibrant and accessible historic area of Minneapolis. It was easy to access the funky nearby community, downtown and the U of M on foot. We were looking for a space that could accommodate a scent sensitivity and the Brownes were accommodating and honest about what they were able to provide. There is plenty of closet space for unpacking if you're sticking around long term or other surfaces for just working out of your suitcase for a shorter stay. The Brownes were not only quick to respond to my long list of questions before the trip, they also connected briefly after we arrived and again before we left (without being intrusive at all) to make sure we knew they were available if we had any questions or issues. Thanks so much for making your place feel like a home!
Thank you for the kind and detailed review Kelli! We enjoyed hosting you and your friends. Please consider staying again when you return to the city.
Nice place but needs some soundproofing
The house was cute, very clean and comfortable. The only problem was the soundproofing -- there isn't any. As guests, we could hear everything going on with our hosts down below -- their adorable baby who loves to sing, the daddy talking and playing with the baby, their dog barking, their Christmas music, the baby crying in the middle of the night, bathroom noises, etc. It didn't bother us since it was their house, UNTIL we were sitting around the table playing a card game with our 10 year old. The hosts texted and asked us to please be more quiet, because they could hear that we were playing a game, and they could hear our chairs scraping the hardwood floor. We were stunned because we were being reasonably quiet, or at least we weren't making anything other than normal noise. But the bare hardwood floor and large heating vents transmit everything. We literally whispered and tiptoed after that, and we were glad when it was time to leave. Carpeting would probably go a long way in muffling some of the noise.
Thank you for an honest review. We will take your comments into consideration.
We apologize for what sound you did hear, and wish you would have told us if you were bothered so we could have made immediate changes to better accommodate you.
We too could hear you above us, as we do with all of our guests, and we were not bothered.
Note to future guests:
WE HAVE ADDED RUGS IN EVERY ROOM. PLEASE SEE PHOTOS.
The home was built in 1940, and has all original hardwood floors on both levels. Both units have separate HVAC, and do not share any vents. The space being rented is the upstairs flat, with a separate entrance and utilities.
We do ask that you please read the listing description in full prior to booking, and do not hesitate to ask questions prior to confirming, communicate throughout your stay, and ask for any changes if/when you need them.
We are happy to host you!
Lovely and Convenient Apartment
The Brownes have a lovely, welcoming home. We were in town for the NCAA volleyball tournament, so we wanted to be close to the Target Center. The apartment is extremely convenient by Lyft (in warmer weather I bet it's a great walk) to that area, and is itself close to a lot of cute restaurants and bars. Their recommendations were appreciated and proved fruitful. The Alma Cafe happy hour was a particular treat!
The space itself is really charming - it was great to relax by the fire after a long day of sightseeing and cheering for our team, and it was easy and convenient to cook ourselves a quick breakfast in the morning in their well-stocked kitchen.
They were extremely responsive and helpful leading up to the stay as well.
Thank you Allie and family. We loved having you and hope your team did well! Come again.
Great location for a get-away to Minneapolis area. Beautiful, quiet neighborhood. Clean, comfortable and charming flat on the second floor! Beds were very comfortable and the fire place was wonderful when coming in from the cold December Minnesota weather. Wishing it had been warmer so we could have walked outside more. Very close to the Stone Arch Bridge. Beautiful! We will check to see if this available next time we need lodging in the Mpls area!
Thank you Colleen for your kind review, and for staying with us! We look forward to hosting you again if things line up. Happy Holidays!
