Terry R Witham purchased this villa in 1993
Villa Serenity is David's yearly escape from Maine's winters, usually in January-February.
A roomy, comfortable house located in some of the world's most prestigious surroundings, at an affordable rate.
We stayed at Villa Serenity for over two weeks and had a great vacation. Terry and Olivier were extremely pleasant and most helpful. The first week we were here with kids and grandchildren. The short walk to Francis Bay was perfect for their desire to maximize beach time. The beach at Francis is beautiful and the snorkeling is excellent. One is almost guaranteed an encounter with a large sea turtle. The Annaberg ruins are a short drive. The ruins were a huge hit with our nine year old grandson. From the Annaberg parking area one can take a 20 minute stroll to Waterlemon Bay, a great snorkeling area or can hike on to the ruins of the Murphy Great House and on to Brown Bay. Coral Bay is a short but windy drive. There are several groceries and a number of good restaurants. While in Coral Bay be sure to try the brownies and revved up pickles at Pickles in Paradise. Also, if you want really fresh vegetables visit Josephine at the Garden Center also in Coral Bay. I have already e-mailed some close friends recommending they consider a stay at Villa Serenity. Thank you Terry and Olivier!
Terry and her Husband were just so wonderful to deal with and such big helps! Francis Bay is truly a treasure, as is their home. We so look forward to returning to our new favorite vacation destination!
I reserved this property for May 2017 almost a year prior to our stay. Sadly, I had to cancel and Terry was so understanding. She gave me several options and honored my decision. Very helpful, honest, and compassionate. I will reserve this property again and look forward to vacationing on one of the best spots on St. John.
Villa Serenity definitely lived up to the name, it's National Park setting was peaceful and well suited to my family's preference for "off the beaten path". Francis Bay is just a 5-minute (even with a 4-year old) walk down the road, we had excellent snorkeling there especially along the North rim where the rocks are. Bonus: the Villa is provided with 3 kayaks that we proved can be ferried to the bay one at a time in the back of our rental jeep.
The kitchen was well appointed and we cooked most of our meals there. We used the gas grill to cookout one night, it worked great on the yellowtail snappers we bought from the Rastafarian fisherman down the street from Aqua Bistro. We brought enough food in our checked bag to get through the first dinner and breakfast (box milk was a great idea), then bought groceries at the Dolphin Market in Coral Bay (10 minute drive, way closer than Cruz Bay).
The house was clean and everything worked including wifi and cable. The AC is window units in each bedroom, we only used them at night to take the edge off the August heat and humidity, worked great. Owner Terry was very nice and pleasant, made us feel right at home. We stuck with bottled water for drinking and had a minor battle with a few ants in the kitchen, but nothing to keep us from recommending Villa Serenity to anyone who wants to experience the real St. John. We can't wait to come back!
We had 9 glorious days in this perfect villa. The weather was perfect , the deck with the view, the 5 minute walk to the beach, the outdoor shower, the birds, the roosters!, the cats.....on and on. My husband and I had this place to ourselves but for 4 nights when friends were there. We were celebrating my 68th birthday and our 18th anniversary. The kitchen was well stocked and the beds were very comfy. We had a rental car that we used to get groceries, visit a few other beaches. Our only complaint/suggestion was to check on the living room air conditioning which got a little loud occasionally. If you're looking for comfort, convenience with a feeling of luxury-this is the place. We booked side by side massages from http://www.massagestjohnvi.com/ before dinner at Zozo's , the restaurant at Caneel Bay. Both perfect. Terry, the manager was wonderful to deal with.
I got praises from my family for choosing this villa! The villa information was accurate but the description of the scenery was understated. Wow! It was awesome having breakfast together by the gazebo with a view of Mary's Creek and BVI, feeding the banana quits and hummingbirds, watching pelicans flying by (occasionally shooing the pesky thrasher? and chicken visiting). During sunset, the beautiful streaks of colors can be seen on the other side of the deck.
The location was ideal. Francis Bay was a few steps away and we snorkeled all the way to Maho Bay,where we saw turtles feeding, sting rays and colorful fish. Both Coral and Cruz Bay were in reasonable driving distance.Jeep Rental is a must if staying in this location.
For cat lovers like us, there were two sweet cats Ms. Moon and Homer who stayed by the deck and kept us company (and critters away). The kitchen was generally well-stocked and we prepared most of our meals.Take a deep breath in the grocery store and try not get a heart attack when you see the prices which are generally 2-3 times more expensive compared to the mainland.
Terry the manager was nice and easy to deal with.
If there was a suggestion for improvement, it would be to secure the screens more because small bugs able to get in at night, harmless though.
We liked Aqua Bistro, Full Moon Coffee/Gift Shop, Organic Salad/Vegetables from Josephine's Farm, hiking Reef Bay Trail, best snorkeling was at Brown Bay on the left side.
We would highly recommend this villa for persons wishing a quiet vacation close to nature and (as the fitting villa name)...seeking Serenity.
