About Jim Barbeau
We have been vacationing in PEI for over 25 years. 3 years ago we bought this piece of property 200 yards from a beautiful beach. We completed construction in September of 2017 and are excited about the prospect of sharing this wonderful spot with you and your family and friends.

Why Jim Barbeau chose Darnley
We vacationed all over the island and this is our favourite location. Unbelievable sunrises and sunsets, incredible walks on the beach and a place to get away without any distractions.
What makes this Cottage unique
We offer a unique, 2 story summer home that has its kitchen and main living area on the 2nd level. There are 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms plus an outdoor shower and over 1900 square feet of living space. Our upstairs deck offers beautiful views of the North Atlantic and a fully equipped, modern kitchen. A large master bedroom and accompanying bathroom (complete with laundry facilities) are also found on this floor.

Exceeded Our Needs and Expectations
We could not be more pleased with this rental. It was just what we needed and was so close to all the venues we had to attend for our Son’s Wedding. The cottage was well maintained and contained all the amenities to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We look forward to renting this property again in the future.
6 star vacation
I would rate this property 6 stars if I could! It is spacious, immaculately clean, well equipped and the view is amazing! The appliances are all new and work well, the kitchen had everything we needed. The beds are comfortable (note the ground floor beds are double rather than queen as per the ad) and the showers are great, including the outside one which came in handy with sandy/sometimes muddy boys! It was convenient to have the second family room so the kids could have their own space & tv. There is a futon on the main floor family room but no window blinds so if you volunteer to sleep there be prepared for a spectacular 5 am sunrise as the house faces northeast:) We spent most of our time on the upper deck enjoying the view and the sound of crashing waves but one NE windy day we hid on the back deck in the zero gravity chairs, drink & books in hand. We (2 families, kids under 10 & over 20 years:) stayed late June and the weather was not the best but we enjoyed every minute. The beach, which is very close to the house, is one of the best on the island yet never seems to be crowded. We stayed mid Aug last year in a different property and still no crowds. It’s a short drive into Kensington for supplies and we stopped at Basin View Seafood and Malpeque Oyster Barn for fresh seafood, the choice oysters are our favourite. We launched our small boat at the marina in Malpeque twice and tried a little fishing but too early for mackerel perhaps. The roads leading to the property are dirt and a bit rough which, if you have kids, are perfect for biking. The cars cannot go fast and the potholes make great bike jumps! Our boys also enjoyed tossing the football and flying kites.
Jim was very pleasant during the booking process & quickly responded to any questions I had.
Traveller tips: in warmer weather you want to bring another fan (there is one in the house). I would bring my own pillow next time as the ones there are a bit hard/flat (first world problems I know!). There is no hairdryer (not an issue for us). There are basic spices, lots of pots/pans incl. a large pot, lots of salad bowls, a corkscrew & good coffee maker, I donated a bottle of olive oil. I brought life jackets for the kids and they wore them one day the waves were very high. They can both swim but I worry about riptides as the beach is unsupervised.
In summary, I would highly recommend this property and I personally hope to return again next summer.
We are a 45 minute from Confederation Bridge. On your way you will pass Summerside before arriving in Kensington. From Kensington we are a 10-12 minute drive through a very scenic and historic part of PEI. To the east of our cottage is the town of Cavendish, which is alive in the summer and a must see and do for all visitors. PEI has something for everyone. Cycling, hiking and scenic drives are plentiful on the island and if you love golf, it is truly a paradise for golfers of all abilities. Charlottetown, with its renowned Centre for the Arts, hosts the world famous play, "Anne of Green Gables", and is just 45 minutes away. There are some great seafood restaurants within a 15 - 20 minute drive or if you choose to prepare your own meals, there are a number of seafood outlets with 5 kilometres of the cottage.
