SOL-MATE is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home located off the coast of Alabama on Dauphin Island. The home sleeps 8 comfortably and is situated directly on the Mississippi sound. The rear of the home faces the Western sunset and is only a few feet from the bay.

The beach is just a short two block walk from the house. The rear decks and dock offer unobstructed water views as far as the eye can see and spectacular sunsets. The home has a private dock that allows for fishing, swimming or just relaxing in the sun. SOL-MATE has extensive dock lights to attract bait fish and offers some of the best speck and white trout fishing on the Island right from the dock!

The home is located within easy walking distance to the gulf (approx. 2 blocks). SOL- MATE is fully furnished to provide you with all of the comforts of home including WI-FI internet connection, unlimited nationwide calling, and cable service with movie channels. Rental includes the use of (2) bicycles, fishing poles, and a propane grill. This home also has washer and dryer, outdoor shower and outdoor cooking area.

The master bedroom has a queen size bed and a private second floor deck that overlooks the water. Additional bedrooms have a queen size bed, 1 full bed with 1 twin over full bunk bed.

Use of the boat lift is NOT included in rental.

Why Lisa and Scott Marlowe chose Dauphin Island

Sunsets, sunsets, sunsets.....My husband and I looked for quite a while for the perfect little vacation home. You can change the carpet or paint the walls but you can't change the views that a home offers. 'SOL-MATE' provides an almost endless view of the sun setting over the sound in the afternoons.

What makes this house unique

'SOL-MATE' just feels right. There are bigger homes on the Island and nicer homes on the Island but, I don't think that I would trade Sol-Mate for any of them. SOL-MATE doesn't feel like it was furnished from the 'vacation house superstore' It has character and history. SOL-MATE has an authentic value to it that draws you in. It often seems that the house was built just so I could have a glass of wine and watch the sun drop into the bay. With so many houses just 'stuck' into the sand everywhere, SOL-MATE seems to belong where it is, as it is.

This is the second time we have stayed in the winter. Great place for relaxing on the water. Sunsets beautiful and inspiring. Kitchen well stocked we prepared all our meals. We watched the Super Bowl outside on the patio with a fire in the fire pit (propane). The weather w.as fantastic and we went kayaking on the beach and off the dock. The dock is great for bird watching and relaxing with a beverage. We had two herons, osprey, possum and a small cat pay us numerous visits. We will be back.Quiet location close to beach.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Sol-Mate! The weather was good so we were able to enjoy the outside features as well as the features inside the cabin. We had our annual Christmas Eve supper with family and friends who loved the property as much as we do. Thanks for making it available!!!

Could have been better does have a great view and great fishing access to bay

The house is in need of some updates and routine things. The bathroom down stairs did not work. I did message the owner and they advised me someone would be out to fix it on day 2 or 3 of our stay. NO ONE CAME! The jet tub has not worked in some time per the owner and we had to fix the bikes to use them. There was mouse poop on the towels and stored linens and Cocklebur's in the carpet everywhere. They hurt when your bare foot. However the fish did bite... and being on the bay side was nice.

Owner's Response: I debated for almost a week on how to write this response which was our first ever negative review. Lisa and I take great pride in our home and while we don't pretend that it's perfect we do find it to be a pretty nice place! With almost 40 reviews representing over 100 guests over the past 4 years and never less than a 4 star rating, my response is: I guess that you can't please all the people all the time. I do wish that the guest would have called me during his stay with any issues as opposed to just dropping a poor review. I personally field all calls from our guests and you will never see a review that says we are not responsive. I sent the pest control company that provides our monthly service over to the house for an inspection as soon as I saw the review. No evidence of a mouse or droppings was found. As a precaution the company set 4 traps and no mouse has been caught to date. Could a mouse have gotten into the house? Of course, but its nothing that we, or our guests, have ever seen in the past. The jetted tub on the main level isn't broken it just has the jets turned off. After multiple overflows due to kids adding bubble bath and soap to the tub with jets on (How can a kid resist that!!) we decided to disable the jets but we don't advertise it as a jetted tub. Our listing shows it as a standard tub/shower combo. Finally, I agree that the sand spurs stink!! (as do the sand gnats, jellyfish, and hurricanes) but, that's just the island being an Island! You drag them into the house on your shoes and they do wind up in some weird, undesirable places. But, we inspect carefully after each guests leave to make sure that there are none left in the house. Lisa and I put a lot of time and effort into Sol-Mate. We enjoy seeing other families enjoy our home as much as we do. More than the poor review, knowing that someone stayed at Sol-Mate and didn't have the enjoyable experience that our family and many other guests have had is what is most disappointing. If this guest didn't like Sol-Mate then we respect his opinion and to each his own. But, we ask our future guests to read through the pages upon pages of glowing reviews before making your judgement on Sol-Mate. Scott and Lisa

Perfect family setup!

We could not of been happier with this house! The island is very nice but we were really look for a place to spend time with my family who is scattered across 3 states. Soulmate was perfect and everyone had their favorite parts. The men loved the downstairs living area and the pier while the women enjoyed the convenience of the completely setup kitchen and living room. My niece was thrilled to run back and forth and everyone was still close enough to interact while being comfortable.

I was unable to spot another house close by that was as charming or had such a great setup. All you need to do is load up your family/friends and grab some groceries! We are already trying to work another trip in ASAP.
