Homosassa House Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms, 2 Bath, sunny and bright with decks, patio, and fantastic water view

*Free use of Carolina Skiff J14 October, November, December rentals. Free use of kayaks and canoes with all rentals.

Meticulously remodeled to be the best vacation rental in the area, Otter's Den is wheel chair friendly with a chair lift in the garage and 3ft or wider doors throughout except in the guest hallway, bedroom and bath. 60 ft of dock space on a deep water canal means your boat is in your back yard ready to head for the Gulf, the springs, or even a waterfront restaurant. Most furniture and appliances are brand new including all beds (King in master bedroom, 2 twins that can be moved together in the guest bedroom.) Master bath area has a walk in closet, travertine (real stone) shower stall, and new toilet, sink, exhaust fan and light fixtures. Guest bath has tub, shower, and is newly tiled with all new fixtures as well. the kitchen and dining area sports a new dishwasher, electric stove with stainless hood, built in microwave, a huge walk-in pantry, double door refrigerator with ice maker and through the door water dispenser, toaster, blender, and quality flatware and service for 8. There is a 60 inch plasma TV in the living room, and LCD TV's in the bedrooms and kitchen. The home has vaulted ceilings and an 'open air' feel with lots of skylights and pocket doors that disappear into the walls leaving a vast open view of the spacious deck, the dock, the water and wildlife. A large 2 car garage and driveway should take car of your vehicles, but there is extra parking nearby for boat trailers and possibly an RV. Recreational amenities include 2 bicycles, a double kayak, a single kayak, canoe, 2 spinning rods with tackle for fishing off the dock. Serious anglers should bring their own gear. A four person 14ft Carolina Skiff with 2 bench seats, Bimini top and 9.9 hp Evinrude four stroke motor is available to qualified boaters for an additional fee. The house is on a private paved single lane road facing 3 acres of undeveloped deciduous woods. Most houses in this neighborhood are owned by weekenders who come 'up to the river' for fishing, boating, or just to relax.

About Terry Evans

While building our little pocket cruiser my wife and I decided finally to move to our favorite waterfront Florida getaway - Old Homosassa. We'd been visiting here and bringing friends for years and always dreamed of living here permanently. Now we do!

Terry Evans purchased this house in 2012

Why Terry Evans chose Florida Central Gulf Coast

When another house in our quiet neighborhood became available, we bought it from the owner before it was ever listed on the market. The neighborhood is perfect, the house is well constructed and has always been well cared for, and the waterfront location is the best in the area. Had the house been available when we were shopping for ourselves, I'm sure we'd be living there now.

What makes this house unique

60 feet of dock space on a deep canal 1/2 mile from the Homosassa River, 3 miles from the Gulf of Mexico makes the house a boater's dream. The rear deck is huge, the back porch/family room, living room, kitchen and master bedroom all have great water views and north light without glare.

Perfect setup for Homosassa adventures!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time last week staying at this house. We stay in a lot of different vacation rentals and this one was definitely one of the best. It was very clean and very well stocked with everything you would possibly need and more. There were no bugs either! I couldn't believe it, we would sit outside and shuck scallops for hours and not get bit at all. The location is very convenient to get to the scalloping grounds, the springs, or several bars and restaurants, yet still very quiet. Absolutely no complaints and wouldn't be surprised if we rent the same house again next year. Thank you Terry.

Fabulous Rental in Homosassa

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Otter's Den in July to have some fun during scalloping season. It was very clear as soon as we walked through the door that the Otter's Den would be a great rental for us. We are a family of 5 and it was very spacious. It had everything we needed and more! It was extremely clean and very comfortable. I really appreciate a clean rental especially when we are staying for a week. We were able to keep our boat right behind the house and head out to the scalloping grounds every morning. The deck in the back was awesome!! The owner was very good with information before our arrival and during our stay. We had no problems finding the boat dock, getting to the house via water, restaurants, kayaking, entertainment, etc... I would highly recommend this rental!!

Had a great and comfortable stay

  • 5 of 5

House is very nicely done and well appointed. We lacked for nothing. It's on a deep canal far enough off the river to be quiet but just a short ride by boat (or car)to good restaurants. And of course scalloping and fishing.

A very nice vacation home for boating

  • 5 of 5

We brought our boat for a week of scalloping and found the Otter's Den was fully set up for our stay and very clean and comfortable. We spent every morning with coffee looking out over the canal as the day began. Plenty of dock space, a cleaning table, a place for your boat trailer, and all you need to enjoy your stay. We had a great time!

A most enjoyable week in a lovely home!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a delightful week staying in Otter's Den while we explored the Homosassa and Crystal River areas. As other reviewers have noted, the home is very nice. It is open, spacious, tastefully furnished and decorated, and stocked with everything that we wanted. The beds and other furnishings were very comfortable. We used the outdoor area (decks and dock) a lot, and that area had plenty of comfortable seating. Our daughter and her boyfriend visited us for several days while we were there, and we never felt cramped. We really appreciated that kayaks and bikes were included with the rental. We had fun paddling about in the canal and a little ways into the Homosassa River. We only used the bikes a little bit (probably would have used them more, but we didn't find the area very "bike friendly"), but it was nice to have them available. We aren't big boaters, so we decided not to rent the Carolina skiff, but that would probably be a fun option for many people.

It was very easy to do business with Terry (the owner). All my questions were answered promptly and courteously. He lives next door, and he came over the day we arrived to introduce himself and answer any questions we had; but he was not the least bit intrusive. He provided lots of information about the Homosassa area (places to visit and restaurants), which was very helpful. On our last day, Terry offered to take us out on his boat, which was an unexpected treat! We would not hesitate to rent this home again should we decide to return to Homosassa.

Old Homosassa is a picturesque old Florida fishing village located on a beautiful little river - 7 miles from the springs to the Gulf of Mexico. The house is on deep water Otter Creek, just off the main river, and only 1/2 mile from a state kayak park with an observation tower overlooking the Chasahowitzka wildlife reserve. A bicycle can get you anywhere, even off road into the reserve. Most popular activities are kayaking, fishing, boating, scalloping, snorkeling, and swimming in the spring's 'blue water.' It's one mile to MaCrae's waterfront bait house and bar and Nativie Sun tours offering air boat rides through the vast tributaries and backwaters, fishing and scalloping trips. The wildlife park is a must see. While they specialize in manatee rehabilitation, all the birds and animal species native to Florida are there. There's even an observation room sunken into the fresh water spring where you see multitudes of both fresh and salt water fish species swimming wild. A favorite activity is just sitting on the dock with or without a fishing rod. You can see manatees, dolphin, river otter, great blue herons, bald eagles, turtles, an occasional alligator and much more.
